Equestrian Program at Camp Sacajawea The equestrian experience enhances the resident camp experience.

Riding is a physical sport that requires coordination, balance, and the ability to pay attention to instruction. Our program follows a progression.

Longer sessions include an initial riding assessment, riding in group lessons for various riding levels, and more in-depth horse and stable care.

Just northwest of Boone, Camp Sacajawea helps girls discover confidence and independence, connect with life-long friends and their natural environment, and grow their self-esteem. Jump into any number of activities for all ages and interests from the climbing tower, to the equestrian arena, to the Boundary Waters! No matter which session you choose, you will swim in the pool, create arts & crafts, and make s mores with your friends. Equestrian Program at Camp Sacajawea The equestrian experience enhances the resident camp experience. Our horse program goal is not only to improve a girl s riding skills, but to also teach her horse and rider safety, horse care, and stable care. Riding is a physical sport that requires coordination, balance, and the ability to pay attention to instruction. Our program follows a progression. Three-day camp sessions are for beginners and include a pony ride (lead-line, accompanied by a counselor) in the arena. Longer sessions include an initial riding assessment, riding in group lessons for various riding levels, and more in-depth horse and stable care. Girls will spend 2 hours each full day, weather permitting, at the barn. This time will include a ride, horse care including grooming, and stable care. There will be tons to do including swimming, low ropes, and archery you ll make your own schedule! Lunch is provided and please wear closed-toed shoes. The counselors will work with you and your troop leaders to plan your day including swimming, archery, fire building, and other awesome camp activities. You can also bring your own badge work to work on with your counselors! Troops must meet supervision ratios. Price is per person. Meals are provided. Giddy Up Grades 3-5 Dates July 8-10 July Cost $210 Do you love horses? This session is perfect for an equestrian beginner. We will help you learn some basic horse sense and the fundamentals of riding, horse care, and stable care. You ll get to groom the horses, and then go on a pony ride around the Camp Sacajawea arena! There will also be time for a campfire, crafts, and swimming! (June) 12 (July) Junior Wranglers Dates June June July 29-Aug 3 Cost $390 Grab a friend for a week of grooming, horse care, and riding in the Camp Sacajawea arena. You ll spend half the day at the barn, and the other half in the rest of camp. After a riding assessment on the first day, you will start your equestrian adventure with a group of girls at your same skill level. The barn staff will help you learn and maximize your time at camp. Of course, there will also be swimming, crafts, and camp fun! Pack out is a meal cooked over the campfire and eaten in the unit. We usually do this on Wednesday nights at Camp Sacajawea! 20 21

We ll stay awake later and later each night. Together we ll play night games, go stargazing, and take a night hike. We ll even go on a night swim and make a midnight snack. If the sky is clear, we will see the Delta Aquarids meteor shower! Are you ready to get seriously messy? Enjoy exploring the world around you on a sensory level, with mud fights, jello wars, human sundaes, and more! You and your counselors get up to make breakfast and plan your day. You might plan a day hike to a natural wonder, or pack up your campsite and move to a new one for the night. We ll pack our belongings, including our meals, drive up to our trail head, and spend 4 days, 3 nights on the Wisconsin Ice Age Trail. Experience primitive camping and learn what it means to be in the backcountry with a group of great friends! Physics is anything but boring at camp! Join us and be a part of the experiment. Learn about the laws of motion at the high ropes course, explore systems while tree climbing, put together your own roller coaster, and then spend a day at Adventureland to experience the real thing. Check out all of the thrills at camp! Picture yourself waking up in a tent full of friends, and stepping outside to see the mist on the lakes. You and your counselors listen to loons while building up the fire and making a hot breakfast. Then you pack up all your belongings and canoe to the next adventure. This trip will have a few days of preparation and planning at Camp Sacajawea before leaving for 5 days, 4 nights in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Join us on a trip to northern Minnesota where you will tackle a week of primitive camping and get the chance to explore the great Northwoods. Get ready for the adventure of sleeping outdoors in a tent, canoeing daily, and living out of a backpack. We ll be paddling and portaging to a new campsite almost every night! Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa is proud to offer one of the most successful C.I.T programs. This leadership program is completed over a two summer period. After successful completion of the program, these campers are eligible to apply to work as camp staff. Grade 10 - CIT I: Focus on experience in responsibility, what it means to be a leader, child development, outdoor skills, group dynamics, conflict resolution, and interaction with campers. Grade 11 - CIT II: Building on skills learned in the first year, you will have the opportunity to put counseling skills into practice, gain knowledge in safety practices, and experience program instruction as you lead activities with other campers. Grades 8-9 Dates July C.I.T.s will have a session break from 1:30 p.m. on 7/27/2018 through 1:00 p.m. on 7/29/2018. C.I.T.s must make arrangements to leave camp during this session break. A Leader-In-Training (L.I.T.) comes to camp to spend time with friends, but also to learn more about being a leader, and to find her voice as a leader. Look forward to tree climbing, high ropes course, and kayaking. Your counselors will help you schedule your week and add in training on the traits of an effective leader.
