1 LEISURE TRAVEL DEPARTMENT FEBRUARY 2007 REPORT Recap of Trade Shows/Missions Attended See details below February /6-11 St Louis Sport & Boat Show 2/8-12 Southern Women s Show-Savannah, GA 2/15-19 Miami International Boat Show-Miami, FL 2/15-19 Washington Boat Show-Washington, DC 2/20-24 NTS-Schaumburg, North Brook, Oak Lawn, IL and Milwaukee, WI 2/23-25 New York Times Travel Show- New York, NY 2/23-25 Greater New Jersey Golf Show 2/26 US Airways Vacations-Newark 2/27-28 Florida Live! New York, NY TRADE SHOWS/SALES TRIPS St. Louis Boat Show-St. Louis, MO February 6-11, 2007 ATTENDANCE: 47,000 PARTICIPATION: Brochure Distribution: Clearwater Regional Chamber and Renaissance Vinoy Attendees were from the Greater St. Louis area and very familiar with our destination and visit on average every other year. Leisure travel is encouraged by low airfares and non stop flights with Southwest Airlines and USA Received many requests for local fishing charters, fishing piers and marinas. County Cultural, County Parks and Golf guides were available to encourage the length of stay within Pinellas County. STAFFED BY: Gail Yeager 1
2 Southern Woman s Show-Savannah, GA February 8-12, 2007 ATTENDANCE: 20,000 NOTES This consumer trade show is focused on attracting women between the ages of who make over 80 percent of their families purchases. This event allows us to promote our destination to our key demographic of middle to upper income consumers from the drive market of Georgia. The show was very busy and many people mentioned viewing our new television spots that were being aired this week as well. There were many who have visited Pinellas County before and overall they had an excellent experience and they plan to return again. Ft. Desoto and Caladesi Island were the top reasons to visit followed closely by the Dali Museum, spring training baseball and Tarpon Springs. Overall this event was an effective venue to promote our destination with over 500 visitor guides and 1000 Area Guides distributed. STAFFED BY: Rob Price Miami Boat Show-Miami, FL February 15-19, 2007 ATTENDANCE: 151,000 PARTICIPATION: Brochure Distribution: Clearwater Regional Chamber and Renaissance Vinoy This was our first year of participation as an exhibitor in the Miami International Boat Show& Strictly Sail (began in 1941) 41% percent of visitors who travel to the show from outside of Florida. Attendees were very interested in our local Marinas such as Hubbard s and Tierra Verde. Numerous questions regarding the re-opening of the Renaissance Vinoy Marina along with questions about local Yacht Clubs. Many of the attendees were coming to St. Petersburg for the Honda Grand Prix in March. STAFFED BY: Gail Yeager Washington Boat Show-Washington, DC February 15-19, 2007 ATTENDANCE: Approx. 20,000 PARTICIPATION: Brochure Distribution-Clearwater Regional Chamber Distributed materials to hundreds of interested consumers. Several have vacations planned for this year already. Met quite a few people who had just returned and will be going back next year! 2
3 Due to the pop-ups, had numerous inquiries on Ft. Desoto and where it s located. Referred many to the map to show where it is and advised to check our website for updated info on camp ground reservations and also gave them our collateral. A few consumers were concerned about the construction on Clearwater Beach. Advised that it won t be forever and that its all in the name of making Clearwater Beach even more fantastic than it already is!!! NTS (National Trade Shows) IL & WI February 20-24, 2007 ATTENDANCE: Schaumburg, IL 120 Milwaukee, WI 75 Northbrook, IL 115 Oak Lawn, IL 125 PARTICIPATION: Alden Beach Resort With the greater Chicago land area being our number one domestic origin market, these trade show dinner seminars allowed us to reach the area s top travel agents in a cost effective manner. Many agents reported having bookings confirmed for our destination for the next days. The overall majority were very familiar with Pinellas County and over 75 percent reported booking or visiting the area themselves within the last three years. Spring training baseball and the St. Petersburg Grand Prix were highlighted along with the destinations many art and cultural attractions. In closing, this was a successful trip with many travel agents reporting their bookings are up over last year s pace and many requests still coming in for spring break. STAFFED BY: Rob Price New York Times Travel Show-New York City, NY February 23-25, 2007 ATTENDANCE: 8102 agents 21,332 consumer PARTICIPATION TradeWinds Island Resorts and Alden Beach Resort Brochure Distribution-Don CeSar Beach Resort & Spa, Condos by Sirata, Liberte Resort Management, Renaissance Vinoy and Clearwater Regional Chamber There was an entire aisle of Florida destinations. There were 8 CVBs from Florida including us: Tampa Bay, Bradenton Area, Ft. Myers and Sanibel, Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Greater Miami, Kissimmee, and Palm Beach County. Offices of Tourism included Visit Florida and 3
4 Hollywood. And there were 5 Florida Resorts in attendance as well as Sea World/Busch Gardens Discovery Cove. First day of the show was industry only. Many agents claimed they have clients who spend winters in our area. Hundreds of consumers were very familiar with our product. Had several inquiries on spring training and our distance from Tampa. Referred them to our maps and advised we are just across the Bay. New Jersey Golf Show-Somerset, NJ February 23-25, 2007 ATTENDANCE: 22,000 PARTICIPATION: Brochure Distribution-Clearwater Regional Chamber This was our first year of participating in the North Coast New Jersey Golf Show. The attendees were from the New Jersey and New York area and many were very familiar with our destination as they have vacationed here for many years with some baby boomers returning to visit the area and bringing their grandchildren. Questions regarding public golf courses and many had played at Innisbrook. The most frequently asked question from women was for accommodations with a health spa along with the golf course. Golf Guides, Visitor Guides, area maps and County Cultural maps were available to be handed out. STAFFED BY: Gail Yeager US Airways Vacations-Newark, NJ February 26, 2007 ATTENDANCE: 100 Agents PARTICIPATION: Brochure Distribution-Clearwater Regional Chamber, Condos by Sirata, and Don CeSar Beach Resort Met with agents in a trade show setting and distributed all of my material!!! Agents loved the convenience of our white bags. Several agents commented on our maps and what an excellent navigation tool they are. Many wanted to know how the weather is. Advised it is in the upper 70s lower 80s. Many said they had just returned and it was cold. Advised that Jan and Feb are when we receive our cold fronts if any, so the temperature may drop but it never stays that way for long. 4
5 Florida Live! NY-Long Island, NY February 27-28, 2007 ATTENDANCE: agents Signed up through Visit Florida. Participated in dinners in two cities: Garden City and Tarrytown, New York. Gave a five minute presentation each night to all the agents in a sit down dinner setting. Went over 10 new things going on in our area. Took the info from our What s new article put together by our PR department. Had dinner with approximately 12 agents per night. The Don Cesar Beach Resort was in attendance. They signed up through Visit Florida as well. A majority of the agents recognized the resort right away and knew it was on St. Pete Beach. A couple mentioned they book it frequently.
