3 REGISTRATION How to Register 1. Mail completed registration form and payment to 538 Arena drive, Soldotna, AK Drop-off completed registration form and payment at Parks & Rec Office (538 Arena Drive). 3. No pre-registration needed for drop-in activities. Class Confirmation There is no confirmation of classes. Please provide address to receive class changes and cancelation updates. Do not wait until the last minute to register. Fees Class fees are to be paid at registration. Fees are charged to cover brochure, instructor and/or program support expenses. Refunds Refunds will ONLY be given for classes/ activities that are cancelled by the S.C.S. Program. Refunds granted for any other reason will be charged a 10% administration fee. Cancelations If KPBSD cancels classes due to inclement weather or is closed for vacations then S.C.S. classes will also be canceled. If minimum enrollment is not met 48 hours prior to the first class then it will be cancelled and participants will receive an . Unsupervised Children Please do not bring children to adult classes or activities. This can be a distraction to other students and creates a liability for the S.C.S program. Photography Occasionally video and photographs are taken of participants for promotional use only. If you do not wish to participate please notify the photographer, instructor, or staff. No Smoking/Alcohol use policy The use of all tobacco products, marijuana or alcoholic on KPBSD premises is forbidden. Weather Warning: If schools are canceled due to weather then Community School Classes will be canceled too Soldotna Community Schools 3

4 YOUTH PROGRAMS Martial Arts Youth This class will instruct children in the traditional Japanese based martial arts. Students will learn punching, kicking and blocking techniques as well as how to perform kata (choreographed martial art combinations). This class will help develop physical strength, flexibility, and mental awareness. It will also teach the history and philosophy of Japanese martial arts as well as a basic understanding of the Japanese vocabulary associated with the martial arts. In this class you will train hard, learn respect and most of all have fun. 6 ADULT & TEEN ART & HOBBIES Learn to Felt As old as 300 BC, matting wool fibers together to produce lovely carpets, saddle blankets, and clothing such as boots, has been a tradition. The wool felting process opens your creativity in many ways and after just a few classes students will be able to make their own artistic pieces, décor, pillows, tables runners, purses, fashion accessories and gifts for friends and family. Fur Sewing This class will demonstrate hide stretching and teach skin sewing techniques and secrets for making projects such as; trapper-style fur hats, women s dress band hats, sheepskin slippers with beaver cuffs, baby booties, baby hats, children s beaver mittens, sheepskin trapper-style hats, and earmuffs. Supplies for small ornament projects provided. All other materials will be available for sale at class for large projects. 7 ADULT & TEEN ART & HOBBIES Spinning Yarn Students will learn how a spinning wheel works and basic maintenance techniques. Learn to spin single ply yarn and basic 2 ply. Instructor will provide a variety of fibers, including different types of wool, silk, cashmere and alpaca for participants to try spinning. Learn how to spin from raw fleece including how to skirt the fleece, pick it, card it and practice spinning in the grease. Please preregister. Astronomy - Night Lights Stop by for a few (or just one) evening and learn how to use a star finder and telescope. Some astronomy topics will be presented too. If skies are clear, make sure to bring very warm cloths, cookies and hot cocoa. If you own them, bring along your binoculars or telescope. Instructor: Andy Veh KPC Associate Professor Astronomy Kenai Peninsula College RM 151 Free February 8th, 15th & 22nd Wednesdays 7:00-9:00 PM Adult & Teen Survival Gardening This is a one day course on intensive organic gardening in our unique climate. Learn everything from planning, planting, harvesting and preserving. This class will demonstrate that anyone can grow your own vegetables, herbs, fruit, grains and flowers. Regardless of where you live, the weather, experience level, garden size, finances, available time, age or physical ability. Seeds and supplies will be provided to make seed tapes and starter plants. Join us for one or all three of these intro level pastry workshops that will wash away your fears and help put fresh biscuits on your plate. Space is limited so sign up early. ESL Conversation Is English your second language? This class provides an opportunity to practice speaking English in a friendly environment. Improve your reading, listening and speaking abilities. Families are encouraged to attend together. Whether you're planning a trip to Peru or just wanting to learn more about this amazing country, come benefit from the wealth of knowledge that Dawn has gained in her travels. Players are not just a defender or an attacker but a complete soccer player and have a much better all-around understanding of the game This is not a league, just a class designed to let youth explore their talents and develop a love of the game of Futsal. Martial Arts - Teen/Adult Do you love Cross-Fit? Do you love Yoga and meditation? Then try a workout with Sensei Salzetti. This class will teach the value of strengthening your body, improving your mind and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Physical benefits of the class include improved flexibility, better balance, increased muscle tone, strength and stamina. Mental benefits include greater selfdiscipline, improved concentration, reduced stress and better work habits. Country Two Step & Cha-Cha Dance Lessons Learn the basic rhythm of this traveling dance as well as simple techniques on how to prep, turn and wrap your partner comfortably before moving into extended patterns. No partner? No worries! Absolute beginners are always welcome. We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Learn what these things are, there differences, and there risk levels. This class is designed to be informative to all levels of computer users from novice to advanced. Discussion will include how to properly clean a laptop or desktop, what things are most important to keep updated and the advantages and disadvantages of PC s vs. Mac. This class is designed to be informative to all levels of computer users from novice to advanced. Resume Writing Create an effective resume or improve the one you already have. Transform your resume into a powerful tool that will get you interviews. This workshop will lead you through a self-assessment series so you will have extensive knowledge about the product you are marketing YOU! Class will be held in a computer lab, but bring personal laptops if desired. Current resume is optional but helpful. 20 PARKS & RECREATION ICE PROGRAMS Ice Skating Institute s (ISI) Recreational Ice Skater Test Programs are used worldwide, have accepted standards, and have been developed for those who skate for recreation and enjoyment. These programs appeal to first time skaters because it teaches movements they can master almost immediately. It provides achievable objectives with immediate results. ISI skaters range in ages from two to 80+. Tots Classes (2-5 years): Tues. 12:15-1:00 PM. If they can walk they can skate. Beginning fundamentals from falling down and getting up, forward and backward swizzles, and an introduction to crossovers all done in a fun atmosphere All Age Class (2 to Adult): Tues. 6:30-7:15PM OR Saturdays 12:00pm-12:45PM. Students will learn the basics from stopping to turns with new fundamentals added each week. Homeschool Class: Wed. 12:15-1:00 PM. This class allows homeschool students to satisfy the P.E. requirement while learning to skate. 7 weeks session 45 min. each week $70 for 1st session $34 for 2nd session 4 free public skate passes Report cards Badges Production Team A Production Team is anyone and everyone who wants to be part of a team, regardless of skating skill level and age,. This is a lavish, creative, artistic work marked by extreme freedom of style and structure, using costumes and props to illustrate the number. Call today to sign up for the next session! 7 weeks 45 min. each week $70 per session Saturdays 11:00am to 11:45am Synchronized Skating Synchronized skating is the fastest growing part of figure skating. This entry-level class will teach skaters how to skate in unison while performing basic blocks, wheels, lines, intersections, circles, and hand holding. Participants will work towards a competition program. Call for more information as days and times are subject to change. 1 hr. = $7.00 or 45 min. = $5.00 Tues., Wed., Thurs., & Fridays 6:00 to 9:00 am & 3:00 to 5:15 pm Public Skate Public skate is a time set aside for everyone regardless of age or ability to skate around the rink with friends and have fun. Tuesday - Friday 11:30 am - 1:00 pm Tuesday Night 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Saturday Afternoon 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Sunday Afternoon 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Public Skate: $5.00 Rental Skates: $3.00 Hockey Power Hockey Power and Conditioning program is designed to condition the intermediate to advanced skater while at the same time fine tuning specific skills. Full gear required. Tuesdays 5:30-6:15 PM Hockey Skills Hockey Skills is a class for beginning hockey players to learn skating and hockey skills to further their development. Tuesdays 6:30-7:15 PM Saturdays, Noon to 12:45 PM 7 weeks session, 45 min. each week $68 for 1st session Adult Hockey Rusty Blades Tier I is the adult hockey league playing from 1-3 nights per week. The league also holds one tournament per year with teams from the Peninsula as well as Anchorage. For registration call Trevor Baldwin Rusty Blades Tier II is geared for the recreational or beginning adult hockey players. The league plays 1-3 nights per week, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday.
