1 Chamber Chronicle December 2017 The number of employed persons in Lea County is steadily rising. The number of those employed in first quarter 2017 was 27,953 and now the second quarter reports, 28,532 people. For graphs and more information on the employment rate, flip to page thirteen (13). This information is provided by the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County. The Hobbs Chamber of Commerce has welcomed several new businesses to the chamber over the last month. New members include the Law Office of Ross Bettis, Bella Sera and Los Paisanos MVD. For a full listing of new members, please turn to page ten (10). In November, the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce helped officially welcome, Outlaw Grill to Hobbs with a ribbon cutting. The Chamber also hosted a ribbon cutting for the new owner of the Shoe Choo Train, Kirsten Schapp. The Hobbs Chamber of Commerce welcomed new members of the chamber and held the ribbon cutting for Council Money Entertainment. Photos of these events can be found on pages five and six. Today, December 19, from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM, please join the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce membership and staff for our monthly Membership Mix & Mingle. This months networking social is hosted by Burkett-Shaw Realty and The Quilting Gypsy. The event will be at 3505 West Alabama in Hobbs. We are asking that all attendees bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to CASA s Celebration Closet. The 59th Annual Hobbs Holiday Tournament kicks off on Thursday, December, 28 at 8:00 AM at Ralph Tasker Arena. This year the tournament will be featuring girls teams for the first time in the tournaments history! This years teams will include: Aztec, NM, Canutillo, TX, Hirschi (Wichita Falls), TX, Miyamura (Gallup), NM, Shiprock, NM, Taos, NM, Albuquerque Eldorado, Rio Rancho, Kirkland Central, NM, Las Cruces Mayfield, Santa Fe, NM and the Hobbs Eagles. The Hobbs Chamber of Commerce is elated to announce that we will be hosting our quarterly membership luncheon on Wednesday, January 10, This event will be held at the Hobbs Country Club. For a full listing of events turn to page two (2). In the month of November, the City of Hobbs reports seven new business licenses issued. The City of Hobbs also reports a total of 189 permits issued for commercial and residential building. For more detailed information, flip to page fifteen (15).
