FROM THE PRESIDENT Letter from Ron Probert Well we have gotten into the swing of this President thing and trying to get on top of all the many things officers do, and where I need to be on any given day. I hope to get better at it as time goes on. I am surrounded by great officers and they are working hard on your behalf to make things happen, and get things done. We have now got the Facebook page for the Corvette Club up and running and if you want to get on, just go to your Facebook page, and in the search area type Corvette Club of Utah and you will be directed to the CCU Facebook page. We have also steam lined the clothing ordering, paying, and receiving the clothes and we hope this will make it easier for all who want to order shirts, jackets, and misc. stuff. The March birthday meeting at Rib City was great as we had many members there to celebrate the birthdays of which I was one, and also won the $10.00 birthday prize. The $10.00 prize is incentive for all of you to go to the birthday meeting each month. Lots of things coming up in the next few months, car shows, meetings, and cruises, and all of this is posted on the web site. We are doing the Route 66 trip again this year, and led by the always colorful Bernie Warburton and his lovely wife Terri. The Corvette Caravan is shaping up to be a great trip and with the help of Bob Clayton, and Bob Tillotson doing some of the background work we should have a magnificent trip. The weather is getting warm enough to get the cars out, and so we will be starting the after breakfast cruises to various places in the state, and spending the day seeing some of the sites in this great state. If you are interested in being the leader of one of these, please let me know, and tell me where you want to drive to so we can schedule. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, and in the meantime, let s get out and drive our cars! 9 CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: DISAPPOINTING END IN FLORIDA CLASSIC 2014 Richard Prince After leading during the day, sixth and eighth for Corvette C7.Rs SEBRING, Fla. - Corvette Racing's two Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs each led in class at Sebring International Raceway on Saturday but ultimately ended the 62nd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida on disappointing notes. The No. 4 Corvette C7.R of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Robin Liddell finished sixth in GT Le Mans for the second round of the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship. The car led in class for significant portions throughout the race before two late spins and an engine issue with 30 minutes remaining put a halt to the car's charge. Up until that point, it was smooth sailing for the No. 4 Corvette. Gavin set the class' fastest race lap (1:59.521). The No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Ryan Briscoe had an up-and-down day with the "down" part coming into play again with four hours to go. The trio eventually finished eighth in class after suffering an opening-lap collision and fuel pressure problems that ultimately resulted in the replacement of the Corvette's fuel pump just past the eight-hour mark. The No. 3 Corvette also lost a lap early with front bodywork damage it sustained on the opening lap when Garcia was hit by a competitor from behind and shoved into a BMW ahead of him on the opening lap. But timely yellows and strategy calls put the Spaniard into the lead just past the halfway point. The next round of the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship takes place on the Long Beach (Calif.) street circuit from April Copyright 2014 Corvette Racing. All rights reserved. 11 CCU SPRING BREAK CRUISE The first weekend of April, 16 Corvette s headed south to Southern California to get out of the cold. It rained, it snowed, but overall, the roads stayed good and we made it with no problems. We took the old highway from St George to Mesquite to avoid the construction in the Virgin River George and picked up the Marsh s while in St George. The first night we stayed in Henderson, NV. It was a newly renovated motel and was very nice. We did the famous Corvette U Turn on the way out of town when I got distracted looking for the new Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas strip. We got ahead of the California rush from Las Vegas and arrived in San Diego early in the afternoon. After checking in, we headed up to the Corvette Diner for dinner. We made a parade lap around the circle in front of the diner with our announced departure. While in San Diego, we split up with some going to the midway, Sand Diego Zoo and Safari Park, Sea World, Mission Beach, Coronado Island, and Cabrillo National Monument. The only thing I can say about San Diego is we found some nice places to eat and we needed more time to do it justice. It was hard to leave after 4 days. When we departed San Diego, we found the traffic on I-5 that we had missed most of the week. However, we made it to San Juan Capistrano and were surprised by the changes that had been made to the mission. If they would only add parking. Then it was over the mountains to Palm Springs. On the way, I told Dave to eat in Lake Elsinore because there was nothing in Hemet. Hemet has grown up. I didn t think we would ever get out of the city and there was almost anything you wanted in the form of restaurants. 11

12 After arriving in Palm Springs, we headed for the street festival for shopping and eating. The next day, the early birds headed for Joshua Tree National Monument and the late sleepers headed for the Palm Springs aerial Tramway. Both had a good time. In the afternoon, we went to Fabulous Palms Springs Follies. It was 3 hours of great entertainment by people a lot older than me. If you didn t go with us, you have until May 18th to take it in and then it will be gone forever. I m glad I had a chance to see it. We left Palm Springs for Flagstaff through the wasteland of Arizona. I have a hard time understanding why people live in that area. Finally we made it to Prescott where the main road was closed for a car show. We created a distraction because we had more Corvettes then they had cars in their car show. Then it was through the mountains to Jerome, a very interesting city, and Sedona for some shopping. From Flagstaff, we followed US-89 home finding a blinding red dirt dust storm on the way. If you liked the CCU Facebook page, you got daily updates and pictures as we progressed on the trip. I plan on doing the same thing on the Corvette Caravan to Bowling Green. We are already making plans to return to San Diego. This time, more focus on the waterfront. Join us, it was fun. APRIL MEMBERSHIP MEETING The April Membership Meeting was held on Wednesday, Apr 16th at Larry H Miller Chevrolet in Murray, Utah. The sponsorship check was presented by Larry H Miller Chevrolet. We are very appreciative of their sponsorship. They also discussed the availability of 2014 and 2015 Corvettes. It was announced that CCU will donate $900 to the Utah Food Bank for Ron announced the Lava Hot Springs Cruise will be on May 31 st. Members were reminded of the MWSN Picnic on June 1 st. Members were informed that $400 had been committed to the Corvette and Mustang Club Picnic and to the CCU 50 th Anniversary Celebration. The Corvette Caravan was briefly discussed and Tom told the membership about future press releases. Judy discussed future events and Ron went over the Car Show requests for CCU. Members were reminded that the next membership meeting will be on Thursday Night at the Utah Food Bank. Contact the CCU Secretary for a complete copy of the meeting minutes. 20 THE 2014 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, NEVADA & UTAH CARAVAN Hi Again, Some important info that may be of interest to you: 1.) I finally have managed to get a few more rooms in Bowling Green, only 5 miles from the NCM. However, there are some caveats: all the rooms have 2 double beds: 9 non-smoking and 6 smoking. You must book by the end of March and pay for the first night in advance. There is a 60 day cancellation policy. If you are still interested call: Jameson Inn & Suites 166 Cumberland Trace Rd., Bowling Green, KY Call: and ask to book under the NorCal Caravan block. The rate is $110/night, but it looks like a nice place. 2.) The have been some questions regarding radios. I plan to use a GMRS radio, which seems to be the most popular among the groups - but I haven't settled on a channel yet (one also compatible with FRS radios). If some of you have CB's, that's fine also (among yourselves). Unless you can't read and you sleep through the drivers' meeting we all should know where we are heading each day and suggested stops along the way, so barring emergencies, there shouldn't be too much need for radio chatter. You all will be given my cell phone number and if anybody else wants to volunteer theirs to be a contact point, great. Any comments/suggestions? 3.) For the leg from Salt Lake City to Cheyenne, I will lay out two routes. For those who just want to get there and maybe do things in Cheyenne, then just hop on I-80 and go. For those with more of an "Iron-ass" inclination (like myself), I will lay out an optional route of back roads through the Flaming Gorge area (maybe even Dinosaur Monument - I haven't worked out if there is time for that). This will make a pretty full day. If any of you have been through that area and have helpful suggestions, please let me know - or if I'm out of my mind. 4.) Speaking of Cheyenne, Robin Forrer, Captain of the Pacific NW group, has arranged for the Cheyenne Train Depot Museum to stay open from 5:00pm- 8:00pm exclusively for the NCM Caravan Participants. The fee is $5.00. (Pay at the door). The Wyoming Captain, Lynn McBride is working with the Cheyenne area vendors and businesses to allow nearby parking. Dinner is available in the area, and there is a small food venue within the Museum. 5.) FYI - I have gotten a supply of info from the Kentucky Tourism Dept. that I will give to each of you at the launch. 6.) Speaking of Goodie Bags, I have a few things coming for you, but I have been surprised at the pushback from those I've approached. I realize that they get thousands of requests, but I thought that they'd leap at being able to support this noteworthy and honorable event. No such luck. So if any of you have any connections/suggestions, please let me know - but please keep in mind that I'm looking for USEFUL items on the trip, not a lot of paper that will just get thrown away since we really won't have room enough for what we want to bring along already. That's what I wanted to cover at this point. Thanks for listening. 20

The rooms are from Aug 27th thru Aug 30 th unless you want to stay longer. Both hotels are right off I-65 for easy transit to the museum in Bowling Green. Thursday Aug 28 th, the caravan is over and the 20th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum will begin. Celebrating 20 years of growth and changes, the 20th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum August 28-30, 2014, will be celebrated with the arrival of the National Corvette Caravans with participants from around the globe. As with past Labor Days this celebration is a member-driven event, which unites friends, family and enthusiasts for a look back on the Museum s history and future! Those registered can enjoy the Museum with its many displays. Touring the factory is a must do activity. Keep trying to book your tour for Friday at 8:30 AM. At the very minimum, get on the Factory Tour Standby list. We will also probably arrange some day cruises to Mammoth Caves, local Kentucky back roads, and to some local BBQ places. I have a day trip planned for Thursday to drive and have lunch on the Tail of the Dragon highway. Since we are staying within 10 miles Nashville, we can also explore the possibility of attending a show there. Ron, Tom, and I will start putting some activities together as we get closer to the caravan. The NCM events and road trips have been announced and can be viewed on the NCM website. There are no advance reservations for the road trips so you will have to sign up for these trips when you arrive at the museum. Also, the new NCM Track will be open for parade and hot laps. Same thing, you have to sign up for them when you arrive at the museum. Saturday Aug 30th, 9:00 AM those traveling home with me will depart White House, TN for Conway, AR going the southern route through Memphis, and Little Rock. We will be staying at the Best Western Conway, 816 E Oak Street, Conway AK (501) The AAA or AARP rates are $68.39 for a king or $74.69 for two queen beds. Sunday Aug 31st, 9:00 AM we will depart Conway, AR for Amarillo, TX. We pick up the historic Route 66 at Oklahoma City and will follow it through Texas. We will try and stop at the Route 66 Museums in Oklahoma and Texas. We will be staying at the Best Western Medical Center Inn, 1610 S Coulter Street, Amarillo, TX (806) The AAA or AARP rates are $65.99 for a king bed or $70.39 for two queen beds.
