4 Minutes of the June Meeting. The meeting called to order at 7:06 pm There were no visitors to introduce. The program was about Hampton Butte in Oregon where pieces of green petrified wood and other rocks are found and an explanation of what each one was and possible locations to find them. The refreshments were bought by Cheri McMillan and Jayde & Doug Bramlette. The door prize was a polished rock and for the Raffle the person chose the grit for tumbling rocks. Minutes and treasurers report were read and approved. The Red Top rock hunt is on June 16th. meet at 9 am at Easy St. park and ride. Also, there was talk about Hampton Butte in Oregon sometime in the last 3 weeks of September. We had a talk on the Fred Meyer sign up for purchase from your store trip to go to a fund for the club. We talked about the newsletter, new ways of producing it, possibly printing it in color maybe. We are going to get admin. rights back from the old admin. Ginkgo Rock Club s Facebook page and see if we can do some upgrades to it. We are possibly going to Hansen Creek, WA in July to search for crystals and other things there lead by Ron Payne. 5 The following story was submitted by Ron Payne. I went to Hansen Creek for my first time to dig for crystals last Friday. The trail which was an old forest service road was a nice gradual uphill walk for about a mile and a half but when we got near the top we found a heavy fog that was causing drops of water fell from the trees so needless to say I got a little muddy but thankfully it only lasted an hour or so and burned off. As we left the road and started to the area where we planed to dig I realized just how steep the mountain was and you could see years of digs through the trees but after about 100 yard walk we were at the spot we were going to dig. Not knowing just what to do, I found a spot were someone had recently dug, went to the other side and scraped back about a foot of top soil making me a level spot to sit and started digging. The digging was easy but I still had to move a few rocks and small boulders as I went. I sifted the dirt through a 1/4 screen it made it easier because everything looked the same with that red dirt/clay on it. Almost every screening showed some quartz and after about 5 hours I had found a small pile of crystals and ready to go home and clean them up to see what I had found. It is always fun to dig for something different. To get to Hansen Creek you go down I 90 over Snoqualmie Pass, take a right at Exit 47, then take a left going back over I 90, then a right on Tinkham Rd /NF 55, then after a mile or so take a left on NF 5510 this road will take you to the parking area. Here is a link to a good article about Hansen Creek! Also, Check out U-Tube for videos on Hansen Cr. and cleaning your crystals. FIELD TRIP SAT. JULY 21, 2018 These crystals are in a paint tray! Things to bring: lunch; water; gloves; small shovel (if you have one); a clawtype tool; trowel; collecting bags or buckets; maybe something for rain gear; hat, t-paper (there are no facilities) layers of clothing; sturdy boots/shoes; headlamp if you want. A piece of screen with 1/4 grid will help sort crystals.

9 June 2018 Field Trip to Red Top We had nine members brave the not so stormy weather on Saturday, June 16, to dig agates on Red Top Mountain. The weather was wonderful and the mosquitos were scarce, except in the forest trail. A light three minute rain shower dampened the RED Top soil which is now permanently stuck to my boots! Steven Douglass finally hit the motherlode on the last hour of his dig. The rest of us: Lewis and Bill Reynolds, Curt, Sheila and Cort Danielson, David & Marcia and new member Ted DePooter of Bellevue, came off the mountain with the usual collection of miscellaneous rocks! Trip to Madras Pow Wow, 2018 Another note is that Marcia & I went to the Pow Wow in Madras, OR near the end of June. We arrived at the fairgrounds about 7:30 am on Thursday to join the All Rock Hounds Pow Wow Club of America and go on a field trip to dig stuff up. It was cancelled due to thunderstorms and rain on Wed. night. (Those storms started a few fires in the area, too!) Now what do we do? We got out our Gem Trails of Oregon book and decided to head for the Lucky Strike Mine! We weren t paying too much attention to the directions and ended up on the road that the book recommended that no one use! It was just fine and had tremendous views. We also missed the sign for the one place that said it was free digging. I think it had blown down. We arrived at the mine site and began digging in a fresh area. I found four nice ones and picked up one on the road. Marcia found a few smaller ones. There was a $20 $1 per lb. and we just made the cut! (It s still easier at Richardson s Ranch.) We stopped for lunch at 5700ft elevation on a side road that had a fabulous view and all over the ground were agate chips and small crystals! We picked up too many. Got back to town and drove to the casino where we made our small donations. On Friday morning we got in line to go the McDonald s Ranch to dig for Angel Wing Agate, petrified wood and thundereggs. There was a lot of agate at the site and we think we got some nice ones. We weren t that thrilled with the egg or wood hunting. We didn t have much time at the vendor booths as we had to head home that day. We are planning to come back again when we can stay longer.
