2 President s Message We all know that planning an outdoor event during the So Cal rainy season can be risky. For driving events foul weather is of no concern, for the TC affords all weather protection. However, a bunch of adults and a few grandkids out in the open, playing rubber ducky games are at greater risk. Earlier this week the forecast for Saturday (game day) was for scattered showers in the AM. Could the Lame Duk be rained out? Worthy leader, Gene Olson would proclaim the games must go on at all costs. On the other hand, how many cases of pneumonia can we tolerate. But wait, it is now Friday and the latest forecast is for a sunny Saturday. Crisis averted. The bullet missed us again. Do you think our MG cousins in New England would sympathise with our stress over this severe weather condition? Ciao... 4 New TCMG Website Features Steve has been adding some interesting new things to our TCMG website such as some photo history of our club badge, a revamped regalia page, some event videos, added club history and more. Be sure to check it out at: Frank Mason Founding TCMG Member Frank Mason was one of our founding TCMG members and instrumental in helping form our club. Our most coveted TCMG award is named in his honor. His daughter Bobbie dine Rodda sent some photos of him and the TC to share with us. As you can see, Frank had an obsession with the square shape so added a number of square designs to his TC to make it distinctive. She also had saved the radiator ornament and recently donated it to our club. We will have to come up with something interesting to show off this bit of history. Any ideas? 5 T-Type Tool Tip What is the best way to remove a stud from an engine block or other? It seems that the tool of choice is channel locks, vice grips, pliers, or pipe wrench but these all damage the threads and leave nasty gouges. There is a special tool for stud removal. It looks like a socket but inside the stud socket there are 3 knurled rollers that grip the stud. This is done via a cam mechanism that tightens the rollers when the socket is rotated. Save yourself time and aggravation by using the right tool for the right job. Doug Pelton doug@fromtheframeup.com Ed. Note - Just one of the few items Doug does not carry (yet anyway) but these are easily available on the net. These look better than the off-set wheel removers I have tried before or even using the double nut method. As Doug said, use the right tool for the right job. 6 Annual TCMG Lame Duk Kup Event David Mathison s granddaughter loves the TC The annual Duk Kup event was blessed with clear weather, although on the cool side. Four TCs were present. We all had fun decorating, racing, flying and floating our Duks. We had three grandchildren at the event (Simons and Mathison) who seemed to have loads of fun as well. After all the competitions we made the short trip to the Robin Hood British Pub where we enjoyed lunch in a room to ourselves and where the coveted Duk Kup Trophy was awarded to Joyce Edgar as the overall points winner. Linda made sure we did not go hungry or not have our chocolate fix. Lunch after the Duk competitions and where Joyce received the coveted Duk Trophy. GoF West in Carefree, AZ October 28 - November 1, 2013 held at the Carefree Resort & Conference Center Mule Train Road Resort reservations should be done direct with resort but use the link on the GoFWest site or on the registration form to get the special GoF West rates. Registration $50 before July 1 $60 after July 1. In Spirit $25 To register, visit GoFWest.org to register on-line or for a mail in form. Thanks to our event leaders Gene & Karen Olson. And cudos to Olsons, Simmons, Mathisons & Wescotts for driving their TCs. Note: I have 12 positive ground units left and 3 negative ground units left... and after these are gone, I doubt I will make more. If anyone wants to take over this enterprise, we can talk. 7 January 22 TCMG Meeting Minutes The January Meeting was opened by this year s president, Mr. Gorden Bundy. He thanked last year s officers and David Mathison for a good year of TC activities and welcomed everyone who attended. Pete Thelander introduced his guest from Scotland, Mr. Malcolm Kirby who is an avid race car driver. He made acquaintances and hope he will visit us again. Our appreciation and thanks to Karen Olson and Linda Simmons for the delicious array of food and refreshments. An appetizing and energizing way to start the new year. Congratulations to the TC gentlemen for winning this year s TC Jeopardy Game hosted by Gene Olson and his wife Karen. Not to forget the TC ladies won last year. Old Business items: Gorden Bundy mentioned the Annual 2012 Holiday Party at the Sportsman s Lodge. It was attended by 55 people. Joyce Edgar and Lucy McCanne, coordinated the event, President Dave Mathison carried on the program. Steve Simmons gave an interesting talk on events of the year and Art Ludwick s hard work and good humor as our TC Auctioneer was enjoyed by all. Annabel Goldstein donated lots of books from her late husband Bob, and other items brought by others are very much appreciated. A big thank you to all who attended and helped in making the event a success. The Earl Sargent Award was given to Steve Simmons for acquiring the most points by driving his TC to all the TC events. (criteria on website) Congratulations Steve and Linda. New Business Items: The budget for 2013 prepared by David and Joyce Edgar was approved and posted on the wall. The budget for raffle this year is $300 from last year s $200. George Kershaw is in charge of the raffle committee. George had interesting items raffled away in the meeting. A reminder for members to pay their 2013 membership is due. The one free membership raffled this year was won by Dave and Lucy McCanne. Joe Douglass who is the key master since 1959 is asking for a volunteer that will take over key responsibility. Our appreciation and thanks to Joe for 55 yrs. of opening the door for our meetings. Also, Joe made a phone call to Bob Wilmer. The Wilmer s are doing fine and like to hear from the club members. Linda Simmons in charge of regalia, suggested a new item. A black scarf with the TC emblem. Gorden wants her to research the cost of merchandising, Also Joyce Edgar suggested long and short sleeve tees. David Edgar suggested pamphlets that our TClinics (which are a very low selling item be given out for free. Pete Thelander suggested putting them on a CD as new item in regalia. Gene Olson, is coordinating the Lame Duk Kup Event on February 9th, Saturday at the Wildlife Reserve in Sepulveda Basin, 6350 Woodley Ave., Van Nuys. Guild members visit with each other before, and after meeting. Invite your grand children and family to attend. Rubber ducks were given during the meeting to take home and elaborately dress. Last year s ducks can be used as well. It was suggested that Robinhood British Pub will be our lunch venue. Gene handed out event instructions and will send s and flyers for RSVP from attendees. We are looking forward to more attendees this year. Ron Simon said our program for February would be Hobby Night. March and April are open for suggestions, May is bring another car day, June or July will be at the Henkels. He wants suggestions from members to the program. It will include a visit to Vista Antique Tractor Museum and other activities. More info coming on this one. Steve Simmons will research on the Conclave and will provide more information of the GOF2013 that will be held at Carefree Arizona in late October. He will be getting more information from George Kershaw. Submitted by TCMG Secretary Lucy McCanne Lots of goodies to go along with the visiting. Thanks Linda and Karen. George Kershaw sells tickets to the new Raffle Rantics. Lots of great prizes were there for winners. Gene Olson tested our MG, British and Guild history in a game of Jeopardy.
