7 President s Message by Charlie Willard As we start the new year, congratulations to all the photographers who received recognition at the Award s Banquet. Our club is blessed with many fine photographers as was illustrated by the fine digital images and prints recognized at the Banquet. My special thanks to Bob Hubbell for his many years of great leadership of the club. He has left big shoes to fill. Also many thanks to all the other club officers who make this club special. A big thank you to Dave and Gay Kent for the great job they did organizing the banquet and preparing awards. Our February meetings will include the Nature/Travel meeting on February 7 featuring Glen Cunningham, Sande Parker and Dolores Frank teaching us about free software and software available for making slide shows for PC s and Macs. We have our first competition of the year for General Photography on February 8. Get out there and shoot. There are still lots of birds in the refuges and in the delta. Spring and wildflowers are coming soon. There is lots of snow to shoot in the mountains and spring runoff and waterfalls should be spectacular. Look at the offerings through our club sponsored Meet Up, Exploring Photography. Jan Lightfoot does a great job putting together interesting field trips where you can get wonderful images. The strength of this club is how we help each other. One of the reasons I joined the club was to learn and I have not been disappointed. While the goal of competition is to win, learning through the competitive process helps all of us. We always have members needing to know about equipment choices, software, or how to prepare images. If we each gladly give our help, the club will keep getting stronger. Happy shooting, Charlie. General Photography Division News Chuck Pivetti and Grant Kreinberg, Directors 7 The 2010 Awards Banquet was great! Good attendance and lots of fabulous photographs on display. How about Diane Hovey s Image of the Year? Isn t this a great image? Now we need to get geared up for 20ll. Our February meeting will be a competition, so send in your winners to Chuck just as soon as you can. Subject matter is open, we are just looking for good photography. The January show-and-tell was our first meeting dealing strictly with photographic composition. There was no mention of Photoshop, Lightroom, Computers, or Cameras; just photography. And it seemed to be well received. Maybe we will pursue composition further at another showand-tell this year. Here are some samples from the January meeting. LINES CURVES Photoshop Tip of the Month: If you are disappointed that Photoshop CS5 dropped the Picture Package/Contact Sheet feature and included a similar but different option in the Output module of Bridge, take heart. You can download and install the feature from the Adobe Web Site, jsp?ftpid=4687. Next Meeting February 8th at 7:oo P.M.
