The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by President Dick Thompson. Officers in attendance were Dick Thompson, President; Tom Mansfield, 1 st V.P; Samantha Baker, 2 nd V.P.; Dick Fritz, secretary; and Tom Kay, treasurer. 34 member clubs were represented along with one associate member and two individual members. Dick Thompson introduced Paul Anslow, Airport Director of Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (RMMA). Dick reviewed preparations for the Ground & Air Show at RMMA, where we have responsibility for parking management of the 10 paid spectator lots. Our objective is to minimize delays getting cars
parked. Volunteers can park in the CCCC Show area or the Spartan College lot W.120 th Ave; they can also drive to their assigned lot. Orientation will be at the CCCC Swap Meet entrance at 6 am. Note that CCCC is sponsoring the Swap Meet and Car Show and the Early Mustang Club is holding their Horsefeathers All-Ford Show at the same time. If all parking lots become filled, there is room for additional cars at the Oracle lot across CO 128 to the north. There was a question and answer session to deal with club representative concerns. Legislative: Leo Boyle was in attendance but we decided to skip discussion. Save questions for next month. Minutes of the July meeting were approved as published. Treasurer s Report: Treasurer Tom Kay reported balances as of the end of July: Operating Account: $ Govt.Relations Account: $ Havana Cruise Account: $ Swap Meet Account: $ Swap Meet Pre-reg: $ Total funds, All Accounts: $ Reserve: $ Total: $ The Treasurer s Report was approved unanimously. Havana Cruise: Sponsorship money made the event very profitable, as is needed to balance the CCCC budgets. Dick Thompson reported that Gibby s may be back next year as a festival site. SEMA Show: Applications must be in by August 31 as the secretary (Dick Fritz) must submit the list of names to SEMA by that date so they can confirm that applicants are signed on with the SEMA Action Network. Note that the applicants must sign up with SEMA; the CCCC secretary cannot do that. A number of CCCC members have encountered difficulty with SEMA s sign-on procedure but we think that is now solved. The link supplied by SEMA is: Please advise the secretary (RBFritz@comcast.net) if you are applying. I need name, address, and phone number. The passes (which are to be picked up at the SAN booth at the show) are free but applicants must pay for their own transportation and lodging. The show in Las Vegas runs October 30 November 2. Spouses and guests of applicants must separately be signed on with SEMA/SAN, even if they have the same address. Year-of-Manufacture license plates: Another incident of Law Enforcement not recognizing the use of YOM plates was reported. ColoRODans Rod Run: John Ehrlich of the ColoRODans reported that their Rod Run (50 th Annual) brought over 200 cars to the Mountain States Children s Home north of Longmont, and it was a great
experience for the youngsters and the rodders. Door prizes were many and funds raised benefited the Children s Home. 5 PONTIACERS at the Rocky Mountain Metro Air and Ground Show On August 4, the Colorado Pontiacers supported the Collect Car of Colorado by operating the food concession at the swap meet. Other than having our tent heavily damaged by high wind on Friday night and being short a few volunteers on Saturday, the operation went well. There were 17,000 people attending the event that feature two air shows, the Horse Feathers Car show, a general car show and the swap meet. The weather was perfect on Saturday. Our food concession ran out of food, as did most of the food vendors. We made a good profit of approximately $1000. Editorial Comment: I believe that a person should participate in an organization at their level of comfort. There is nothing intimidating about the COPOCI organization so it should be comfortable to join in on the chapter events. There are benefits in participating: sharing you interest in cars, sharing your skills, net working to learn sources for car parts and services plus more. Don t stay in the background pay your dues and join the organization. PONTIACS on the Screen By Gary Canady In past years at POCI conventions that I attended I would always go the presentations by John Sawruk. John had held may management positions at the Pontiac Motor Division and had been established as the person that would determine what PMD documents could be destroyed and what document should be saved for the historic value. John was had a treasure chest of knowledge and would make very interesting presentations. Many presentations would include information about Pontiac vehicles of historic interest. Many of the Q and A sessions would go towards Pontiacs on the screen. As I remember, Pontiac built five cars for the movie The French Connection starring Gene Hackman. The cars were four door LeMans with a 455 engine and a four-speed transmission. The cars were for a high-speed chase under elevated train tracks in New York City. The first run went perfectly except there was no film in the camera. Four cars were destroyed to get the perfect filming of the chase scene. Pontiac furnished the car for James garner to drive in the TV series of The Rockford Files. The car was a Firebird built to California emission standards. It had a 301 engine and Pontiac had to install nitrous oxide to make the car smoke the tires. With the death of Burt Reynolds, I would like to hear the stories behind the Bandit cars.
OAKLAND the O in POCI A lady in Holland sent the following message to Paul Bergstrom at POCI World Headquarters: We don't know the make or type of the car. Someone suggested Oakland? : The attached picture was taken in the Dutch East Indies in the twenties or thirties of last century. My father in law is sitting on the fender while the helper is filling the tyre. The ladies wait at the way side. The photo was sent out to members of the All American Oakland Chapter and many response were received and the car was identified as a 1926 Chrysler.... not an Oakland. Networking!. ADVERTISEMENTS Advertisements in Wide Tracks will be run free for members for a period of three months. New or revised ads should be sent to Colo. Chapter, POCI, P. 0. Box 56, Arvada, CO or by to gccanady@comcast.net. For Sale: 1967 Bonneville fender shirts and '63 GP right fender. Contact Lee at For Sale: 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Catalina, 2door hard top, rust free, excellent paint, leather upholstery, ss skirts, lighted hood ornament, runs excellently. Contact Bob Murphy For Sale: Parts for 1967 Catalina front clip, nos brake drums, distributor, clock, chrome trim and more. Ross Richardson, For Sale 1960 Catalina convertible.... read on The car was partially disassembled and in the body shop at the time. I hurriedly packed all the parts in boxes and moved to NC. The car followed me later with no place to work on it. It all followed me back to Longmont, CO in 1996 and has just been sitting under cover in my garage ever since. Never had place, time, or motivation to finish it.
Engine, transmission, front suspension all rebuilt. Body work and paint was done in I have something like $13K of 1990 dollars invested in it with quite a way to go yet. A re-assembly challenges. I think I still have all the parts but no guarantee. We are moving again and this time it cannot follow me. Do you know of anyone who might be interested in it? Ken Bushaw cell For sale, Pontiac drive train parts for 1930 s Pontiac and some other GM brands. Also, manuals and information on Pontiac repair. contact. Gary Canady I am in possession of a 1949 Pontiac that needs a good home. It spent most of its life in North Texas, but has spent the last 12 years in Peyton, just outside of Colorado Springs. It s been garaged its whole life, so it s still in great shape. My sister-in-law is selling her place in Peyton and is moving to Longmont. My brother and I inherited it from our parents. It was their first new car. After a couple of years, they sold it to my grandfather, so it s been in the family for 69 years. Several years ago, I pulled the spark plugs and soaked the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil. After a couple of months, I hooked a battery up to it and the engine turned over just fine. I figured with your club being so close, I would approach you first to see if there is a potentially interested buyer. I have pictures if you are interested. Your interest and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Asking $2500. Contact: barclay,doyle@verizon.net. For Sale: 1986 Fiero GT 18k original miles clean clean car. I would like to sell to someone who will appreciate it. Leo at leo.olivas@yahoo.com.
