President s Message I just got back from a 1200 mile road trip to Flagstaff Arizona and back towing my Hurst Olds to The Hurst Olds National Convention. D e n n i s Baker went along driving a 1972 Hurst Olds (no AC). We had a great time, but I will probably write a s e p a r a t e article about the trip, but just to keep you guys interested I am asking Sam Fisher to include a couple of Pictures from the trip. In a previous Presidents message I wrote about an idea I have for a short film (maybe one or two of you even read it). This month I thought of a good idea for a commercial for that short Film based on a true story. Over the last few weeks I have been getting my H/ O ready for this convention and this is how I see the commercial going: Continued page 3... Minutes of June 9, 2008 Meeting The June meeting was called to order by Pres. Joel Garrett at 7:03 p.m. No visitors or guests were present. The May Minutes were approved and Dennis Baker gave the Treasurer s Report. There was no Newsletter update due to Sam Fisher s absence. It was noted that Sam now has a new address, due to their recent move. Brian Massey reported on the POCC website & mentioned that he d done some updating. He always needs information from club members, so him any interesting items you may have, such as photos or info about your car, etc. Old Business: Curt Gunderson gave an update on the possibility of closing some of our State Parks. Our park system is apparently one of the worst in the U.S. & some parks have been placed on the National Trust list of endangered parks. There is a new proposal for a California State Park Access Pass, which would result in a $10 license fee per each California vehicle. The owner would receive a pass for access to any Calif. State Park. (Note from substitute secretary: please check with Curt for accuracy of this information or more details on this subject.) Dennis Baker brought club dash plaques for new members who have not received them. Each new member is to receive one when they join POCC. A new design will be made soon for plaques, and new ones will be ordered. There was a question about name tags, and most members have ordered & received theirs. At this point in the meeting, a guest arrived and was introduced. Aaron Darlia has a 2006 GTO, and was welcomed by the group. New Business: Andy Hoff reported that he has submitted information about the Western Regional to Smoke Signals. Continued page

Minutes continued... Past Activities: Greg Griggs reported about the Kingsburg show, which was well-represented by POCC with 11 or 12 cars. It was a good show with a live band. The weekly show at Chubby s (Gettysburg & First) was mentioned. Carl Smith & Dennis Schwarz attended the Northside Church show. It was a nice day, with lunch included. Upcoming Activities: POCC will now meet at Chubby s (Gettysburg & First) on the 3 rd Saturday of each month as a club activity. June will be Pontiac month & DJ Sean will provide free entry for POCC this month. Kingsburg cruise is the last Friday of each month. There s a possibility of going to the movies at the new Clovis theater. It can be rented for a group of 40 for $500, which includes a drink & a snack. There was interest and it will be furthered researched. It was noted that Engelmann Cellars has a movie night twice a month. It is free and is outdoors on the lawn. Western Regional: Brian Massey reported that there are currently 93 entries. POCC members can enter their cars any time. The following needs were expressed: 1. Person in charge of wearing apparel orders Victor Weitzel volunteered. 2. Person in charge of goody bags Carl Smith volunteered. Thanks to both volunteers! Ren Hallett reported on the Program Book and ad sales. He and others have sold a lot of ads and also sponsorships for various Regional events. Please Ren any ads you have sold to this point so that he has an accurate list of ALL sales/donations. There was a motion (Joel Garrett) to donate a full-page ad in the book for Victor s business, due to all his graphic art work for the Regional logo and his dedication. He has donated a lot of time to this project, as he did in Motion seconded (Carl Smith) and unanimously voted on by members present. There was discussion about the centerpieces/ decorations for the banquet at the Regional. Marlene Berglund is heading up this committee, assisted by Jack & Sue Fusari, Gloria Griggs and Paula Yost. They ve done a lot of planning and will soon be assembling the centerpieces. At the conclusion of the business portion of the meeting, the Attendance Drawing was held for $10; but the winner was not present. Meeting was adjourned at 8:14 p.m. Next meeting is July 14. Respectfully submitted by Janet Massey, at Dennis Schwarz s request President s message continued... New carpet Kit for my 1969 Hurst Olds $ New Package Tray for 1969 Hurst Olds $65.00 New Tires for 1969 Hurst Olds $ Filling gas tank of 1969 Hurst Olds with 92 octane...$83.50 While filling tank of 1969 Hurst Olds at gas station, a young Blond Female in a Tank Top and Short Shorts says That s sure is a BAD- ASS car.priceless!!!!!!!! Editors note: I don t know about the rest of you, but I can t wait to hear the story that goes with the pictures. Talk about PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!! 3

2005 Western Regional Revisited The group, at least most of them, that put together the first regional. The Pines Resort proved to be a perfect location for the 2005 Regional. As most of you know POCC hosted the 2005 Western Regional, Pontiacs At The Pines, at Bass Lake. By all accounts the regional was a hugh success with everyone having a great time. It is now 2008 and POCC is hosting the Western Regional, Pontiacs At The Pines II, at Bass Lake once again. The event has been expanded an extra day and will now start officially on Thursday. We are hoping that the few things we needed to improve upon will be better and the many things that we did great will also be better. To refresh our memories and get us into the mood, once again, let s take a pictorial review of the 2005 Regional. The boat rides and Elvis were only two of the events enjoyed by the many participants. All entries were photographed upon entering the show field on Saturday. 4

The Friday night mixer was well attended and received many compliments. Getting settled in at one of the many chalets available at the Pines Resort. The day of the show had a superb raffle as well as Jim Wangers who gave a presentation and signed autographs. The day of the show had nearly 150 entries on display. Old Timers, new ones and a couple of very unusual Pontiacs and GMCs graced the show field. The Saturday night banquet and awards presentation started as the sun was setting and was enjoyed by young and old alike. 5 As the sun set on the 2005 Western Regional we all left Bass Lake feeling we had done a great job. Now we face the challenge of doing even a better job this September.

Regional Update The 2008 Pontiac/Oakland Western Regional Convention is just a few months away! Where are we?? Getting close! We are now at 110 cars entered, and growing. I m not sure if we will hit 160 cars, but we should come close to our mark in 2005 of 140+ cars on the show field. One thing we need to get busy on is our own Club Display! Many clubs will be bringing a display to show off what their club has been doing, and to promote themselves. It would be a real shame if we did not have one of the best club displays there! I know we had one when we went to the regional in Ventura (was that in 03?), but I m not sure it still exists. How about someone stepping up and taking on the job of building and setting one up! Thanks! Now is the time to be thinking of what jobs (yes, jobs) you should sign up for. Every chairperson is seeking help to get them through, so please be ready to volunteer your time and services. You can still have a good time at the regional while pitching in and helping! Here is a breakdown of the different chairpersons. There will be signup sheets at the July and August meetings. If you cannot make the meetings contact Judy Garrett and let her know what job(s) you would like to do. In no particular order: Program Advertising/Sponsorships/ Vendors: Ren Hallett (Needs a lot of ads and sponsors over the next month and a half) Raffle: Dave Valla: They will need help in setting up, and during Saturday. Wine & Cheese Boat Tours: Dennis Simonson: Help needed on Friday getting food and drinks down to the boats. Parking/Vendor Spots: Sam Fisher: Work on Thursday morning marking the field, Friday and Saturday parking. Hospitality on the Deck: Gayle & Helen Huls: Friday night help in getting food out to the tables. Ponchos Around the Pond Car Cruise: Brian Massey: Help on Thursday at the bbq spot. Registration: Joel & Judy Garrett: All day Friday and again Saturday morning. Goodie Bag Assemble/Delivery: Carl Smith: Pre-convention promotion: Andy Hoff: Club Display/Photo Contest Judge: Andy Hoff Goodie bags/wearing (at registration): Andy Hoff: Will need help during registration Friday and Saturday. Chief Judge/Judge Acquisition: Dennis Baker: Logo Wear: Victor Weitzel: Goodie Bag Selection: Brian Massey/Greg Griggs Photos/Awards slide show: Ron Berglund; Awards Banquet Center Pieces: Marlene Berglund: Please step up and volunteer for the jobs you would like the most. At the September meeting we will fill in the blanks as necessary and you may not wind up doing what you would have preferred. I m not sure where the Regional will wind up after As you recall, no one hosted a regional in 2007, and I have not heard of one being planned for Is this the last one?? I sure hope not, they are a great way to bring the Pontiac community together for a fun weekend! If this is the last one for awhile, let s make it memorable! That s it for now, but if you have any questions, just ask! Brian 7

Pontiacs of Central California Officers Pontiacs of Central California (POCC) is a club for owners and lovers of Pontiacs. The club members range from young guys and gals to old guys, who own all types of Pontiacs from the Muscle to the Luxury cars. A few members don t even own Pontiacs, they simply like them. Club dues are $24 per calendar year or $2.00 per month for the remainder of any calendar year. Members must also join the Pontiac/Oakland Club International (POCI). POCI dues are $31 per year and includes a subscription to the POCI monthly magazine - Smoke Signals. The magazine alone is worth the $31. It s full of interesting Pontiac stories, tips on doing Pontiac things, as well as free advertising for members. Since this magazine goes out world wide, it is a great place to find parts or that special Pontiac you have been searching for. President Joel Garrett calbug61@aol.com Vice Pres.
