1 PAT&MC News Page Antique Tractor & Machinery Club Branch 217 ISSUE No. 2 August 2010 PO Box 2440 Page AZ pageantiquetrators.blogspot.com It s Almost Show Time Time to start revving up those engines, etc. and getting your tractor/s ready for this year s Annual Page Antique Tractor and Antique Machine Show. This will be our 4th show and 1st year as a club. Also it means time is running out to finish getting our area ready for the show. There are still some items needing to be done and as always more hands make the work go faster, and get more done. Track and Grounds Maintenance These nice rains are helping us in setting up and packing the field. They are also helping grow weeds that seem to crop up as fast as we pull them out. We are a club now and as members this is your club and your show, so don t wait to be called to help. There are rocks to move, weeds to pull, track to be drug and packed, fencing and barriers to be secured or installed and if we don t get rain that last week, hoses to be moved. If you have an hour or so during the day or of an evening to spend helping out give us a call and Jim will meet you there. Display Area So far at least 4 different old engine buffs are expected to bring things to display at our show. So it is really setting up to be quite a show this year. Edge requirements are that we have a barrier around these areas to save little hands from getting caught where they shouldn t be. Some will be bringing their own barriers, but for others we need to put up something. If you have any rope, poles, flags, etc. that can be used please let us know. Four of our display people, Dawn and Henry Miller, (who have been coming and supporting us every year since our first show,) and Don and Barbara Meakin who displayed our second year, have joined our club. Dane Partridge, (co-owner & manager of Big Lake Trading Post) has also joined. Any antiques, farm equipment, tractor implements, etc. that you would like to bring to display would be appreciated. The more we have for our visitors to look at the better. If you have something you want to bring, to display (and/or sell) let us know so we can be sure to save a place for you. Parking and crowd control Powellapalooza will also be that weekend with their main event just on the other side of the Navajo Village. This may give rise to some logistic problems, making this a time to be extra courteous and helpful to our (Continued on page 3)

3 (Continued from page 1) guests. Parking will be a big concern to participants and guests, and we don t want to disrupt Big Lake Trading Post s normal business. Yamamoto s has again given us permission to use their parking lot and Doug Gardner has given us the use of the old highway across the street. Please park your vehicles, trailers and RV s either across the street or on the Yamamoto lot. We will also be encouraging our guests to park on the Yamamoto lot and work out some way of shuttling people from that lot to the event. We will be putting up signs to show our folks where the parking is for our event. Any ideas or offer to help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Seating We will need help getting the bleachers Thursday afternoon and returning them Monday morning, if you can help please call for time. Also bring any extra chairs you can for our guests to use. Commemorative Buttons Each year we have a commemorative button. One really unique item to our event is our sled, so you will see it featured on most of our advertising, etc. for our club. This year s button has the sled and since we will again be a Ferguson Regional, Judy s tractor is on the button, (but she thinks Jim looks better driving it.) Also we were able to use part of the advertising grant from Page Tourism to purchase the buttons so we will be able to give them out free. We only purchased 250, so I am reserving enough for our members and those who come and participate, before handing out the rest to the public. If you would like your button now so you can wear it to advertise our show let me know and I will get it to you. Advertising Each year I make up posters to be distributed around town, as well as table tents (stand up flyers) that can be placed on restaurant tables. If you have a favorite restaurant, or business, you might ask if we can put up information either on their tables, counter or in their windows, etc., and let me know. If you can help distribute them that would be great too. Tractor Pull Dinner The last few years on Saturday night, we have had a dinner/get-together at Ranch House Grill. Because it has been hard to get an accurate count, and the concern to have enough I have had a hard time not overbooking and then it has cost us royally. So this year we are trying something a bit different. One of our members, Jan Boehme has offered to smoke and cook some tri-tip and bake a large Texas sheet cake for dessert. Dane Partridge has offered to help us acquire the potato salad, baked beans, rolls, pop, water and meat (and slice it up for us,) at his cost. We will have a $7 ticket admission to the dinner and will serve it under the stars at our tractor site beginning about 6pm. Remember, Big Lake Trading Post is not licensed for consumption of alcohol on site, so sorry, no beer, etc. Reserve your tickets now! During the time between the end of the pulls and the dinner we are hoping our group, (club members, display people and those who have come from other areas with their tractors) will hang around to check out some of the other new items Jim and Gene have acquired, shoot the breeze and help set up for supper. Membership Name Tags For name tags we wanted something distinctive and showing our sled. Debbie s What-You-Want Custom Photo Transfers, over by Ranch House Grille, had a product that filled the bill. They are on hard plastic and have your name on them. You can have your choice of either a magnetic bar or heavy pin backing. Everyone who has joined during the first 6 months are charter members. Since this is an extra expense and not everyone would want one we are asking each member to purchase their own. Cost for the name tag is $8.50. PAT&MC 3 Issue 2
4 First Work Day This past August 19th found Rob Gay, Larry Tappan, Mike Ruffell, Abe Tucker, Gene Tucker and Jim Kitson picking rocks and pulling weeds. That was just the first of what needs to be a few more work days and evenings to get the field ready for our show. This isn t a one or two man or woman show, but now that we have a club it s a club event. Show your support by helping where you can. Company is coming and we need to be ready. Call if you can: Pull weeds Work on the track Help with bleachers Lend a canopy Help during the event for an hour or two : * on the track * help in our booth * direct traffic * with announcing Working together we can have a great show and everyone can have a lot of fun. 5 EVENT LAYOUT (see map above) Parking Lot Legend Shuttle to/from parking Display area Viewing area (bleachers, chairs) Tractor parking and track NOTEWORTHY ITEMS As you can see, parking last year was a bit confusing, and we hope to have an even bigger crowd this year. We don t want to disrupt the normal business at Big Lake Trading Post either. Any help and/or ideas on how to control and regulate traffic and parking will be appreciated. PREREGISTER FOR THE PULLS If you plan to pull in any of this year s events, PLEASE preregister with Judy or Jim Kitson. Help us start our events on time. As we have no scale on-site we will be asking you to tell us your weight from a previous event and to stay true to that weight. You can also take your tractor to Page Steel or Allied waste and weigh on their scales. YOUTH TRACTOR DRIVING LICENSE & LIABILITY RELEASE FORM Youth 12 years or older, having an EDGE&TA youth license are welcome to drive in our pulls. They can only drive the tractor they are licensed for. SAFETY FIRST Remember to always turn off your tractors or other machinery if you are going to step away from it even for a moment. There are always a lot of people milling around and children and they often do the unexpected. Museum Area Tractor Parking PULLING MUST DO S Track workers Only people with an assigned job on the track Wear an orange vest to identify you as a worker Turn off your cell phone while on the track. Tractor pullers Must be a member of EDGE&TA, and pay a one time $5 hook fee per tractor per day. (free multiple pulls per tractor after the 1st pull) Turn off your cell phone once you get on your tractor to pull. Be in line ready to pull. There should be at least 2 tractors lined up ready to pull after the one pulling. Be in neutral, foot on brake, foot OFF clutch, hands in the air to hookup and unhook from the sled. WATCH the FLAGMAN, and keep your focus on him and what is in front of you. He needs to stay in front of you, don t try to run him down. He will tell you when it is safe to start and when you must stop. PAGE OLD IRON DISPLAY There are at least 4 exhibitors coming with their old iron displays. Please be sure to help them with their set up and any other help they need. Also let them know how much we appreciate their coming to make our show an even bigger event. PAT&MC 5 Issue 2

8 October Air Fest City wide show at the Airport October 2, 2010 You have probably noticed the bright orange signs around town lately, advertising Wings, Wheels & Hot Air. Several Page citizens have gotten together and with the city s help are organizing an event they hope will grow into a similar event as the Air Affaire. They will be making use of some of the hangers as well as an open area at the airport and would like as many displays as possible. Although we can display tractors together as the Page Antique Tractor & Machinery Club, they are asking a $15 charge per vehicle to participate. The members of the classic car club in town are being charged per car as well, and find it reasonable. I was told that they had to pay $65 a car to display in the park at the classic car show earlier this year. Pancake breakfast for participants. On the next page you will find the application to submit to the city if you want to participate. I would appreciate it if you would also let me know if you are going to display so I can make up a sign for our club. PO Box 2440 Page, AZ PAT&MC 8 Issue 2
