BE THERE- SACRAMENTO, JUNE 26 to JULY 3. Nor-Cal Division members, and in particular Secretary Mark Boyd, have exerted Herculean efforts over the past several years to bring you a terrific convention. We need ALL Nor-Cal members to support our Division, to be registered and to attend! Please register right away and be there for trading Friday and Saturday. Or are you planning to attend on the cheap by only going to the Cal-Stewart Meet on Sunday. Please DON T do this! Support the efforts of those who have worked so hard to provide you the TCA National Convention experience! You will certainly enjoy the Thursday Night Party at the Museum, the Tahoe Dinner Cruise, and the National Banquet on Saturday Night with prizes and surprises for everyone. Greg Stout will be the auctioneer at the banquet! (but see page 3 anyway) PRESIDENT S MESSAGE By Rod Cornell, TCA # As I sit down to write this message late in May, I have to wonder if summer will come. It has been cool and rainy as if it were February. I just hope the weather warms up (but not too much!) in time for our National Convention in Sacramento June 26 to July 3. Speaking of which, there are only a few weeks left until the National and many Nor-Cal members have not yet registered. I know some of you may feel there is not much new to do in Sacramento, but keep in mind there are many once in a lifetime tours including two days of self-guided layout tours where you will be able to visit many home with layouts all in one day, an opportunity that will not exist after the convention. The Thursday Night at the Museum event will be a blast, which includes a 20 minute movie presentation, a wonderful Tri-tip Barbeque, a ride on a full size coach pulled by live steam motive power, and a fabulous Silent Auction. Personally, I m looking forward to the dinner cruise on Lake Tahoe Friday evening. Perhaps best of all you will have the opportunity to visit the trading pits for 3 days, Friday and Saturday as part of the convention, and the third day with our Cal-Stewart Sunday. If you have some items to sell, keep in mind that those first two days will be attended by guys from around the country who have not been exposed to your items. Additionally we are spending over $5,000 on media advertising to attract the public to the Cal-Stewart on Sunday and are expecting a large turnout. And remember, if you buy two tables for the Convention, you do not have to pay the $30 Convention registration fee AND you get to keep your tables for the third day Cal-Stewart Sunday for free! Rod Cornell, President, Nor-Cal Division, TCA George Ann Hornor Wife of Jack Hornor TCA # I am sad to announce the passing of George Ann Hornor. She died in her sleep on April 4. George Ann, wife of member Jack Hornor, was a well known personality and a tireless worker in the toy train community here in Northern California. She and Jack contributed regularly to our Spring Cal-Stewart Meet. She was always ready to take on more work for our club. She was also a vital member of the Sacramento Valley TTOS group, and also LCCA, and LOTS. She loved people and loved visiting with folks as she made her rounds at every train meet she attended. She actively recruited for the TCA and TTOS. A graduate of Kansas University, she had careers working for Continental Airlines and in computers at UCLA. She will be greatly missed. Jack Hornor, Mark Boyd The officers and members of Nor-Cal Division extend their condolences. Raymond T. Hass TCA# Longtime member, and frequent Nor-Cal meet seller Raymond Haas passed away in April. He us survived by daughter Valerie Neuhaus. A Celebration of Raymond s Life was held in Ross, CA, on May 1st. The officers and members of Nor-Cal extend their condolences. Late news: Carl Locher, TCA# , passed away on May 23. No details are available. The officers and members of Nor-Cal extend their condolences. Late news: Charlie Sosinski, TCA# , passed away on February 5, after a 4-month battle with esophageal cancer. The officers and members of Nor-Cal extend their condolences.

4 ITEMS SEEN AT THE MARCH MEET The theme for this month was green in honor of St. Patrick s Day, therefore we see green locomotives, below. Richard Zanotti brought in this rare Karl Bub O- gauge electric loco, from the 20 s thru early 30 s Finally, Richard brought in this Bing O-gauge signal box, for clockwork track. A track trip activates a clockwork-driven warning bell. Richard Zanotti displayed this Karl Bub 1 gauge clockwork loco from the 20 s. Richard obtained this from well-known train dealer Tony Hay. Above: A Railroad Ale beer dispenser handle! Owner unknown. At left: A view of the Bub clockwork motor. This Gary Espinosa s Marklin 1 or 2 gauge engine house of This Carlisle and Finch mining loco is from the early 1900 s. The owner is unknown (Chuck Schafer?). Chuck Stone owns this Marx Roadside Rest/Service Station from the 1930 s. A battery powers the lights atop the gasoline pumps. Note the working car lift.

5 MORE ITEMS FROM THE MARCH MEET John April brought in this green (St. Patrick s Day) American Flyer O-gauge No loco, from the Explorer set, as shown in the catalog illustration above. John needs the cars! Bob Morris brought in this boxed Built-Rite Toys Train Scenery set, probably from the 1930 s. The houses have already been assembled, as shown. The whole set is heavy cardboard. Built-Rite was in Lafayette, Indiana. Above: the set box lid. At right: the folder enclosed with the set shows the scenery set up, with Marx trains. The caption under the photo reads: Complete realism for your railroad is assured with Built-Rite Train Scenery No. 202, No. 55 Miniature Houses, No. 56 Miniature Buildings and No. 57 Miniature Farm and Elevator. The Train Scenery in full color and detail, consists of three sections totaling 60 in length. Unique locking construction gives rigid support and prevents warping. This beautiful G-scale GP9 is owned by (unknown).

MEETING Page 6 These Ives cars were spliced together from Lionel 428-type cars, and equipped with Ives trucks and details to make extra-long versions of Ives 400-series cars. The workmanship is so superb that splice joints are completely indiscernible! Note the full baggage at the right. Richard Zanotti acquired these cars from Karl Schmidt. Above: This Ives loco started life as a Wide Gauge #1132 (0-4-0). A previous owner added a 4-wheel lead truck and constructed a completely new (except for trucks and coupler), longer tender, similar to the original. They were each painted and the No added to the loco cab. This pair is now owned by Gary Espinosa. This Ives O-gauge baggage car of is normally found as #60. However, this example came out of the factory with the #160 lithographed on the sides- correctly found on the #160 floor-toy version of this car. Owner: Rod Cornell Warren Heid owns this boxed (and complete with track) clockwork Donald Duck #1107 handcar set of Warren relates that he obtained this in the 60 s in a Goodwill Store! Note Donald s early long bill!

7 ITEMS SEEN AT THE MAY 28 MEET IN SACRAMENTO Pete White brought his Helix to the meet again, along with a Lyle Cain Toonerville, a repro Army train, and Pride Line reproduction handcars. A portion of the trains offered by Chuck Brasher. This huge Lionel 140L (all metal) tunnel ( ) was brought to the meet by Chuck Schaffer. Master craftsman Ira Keeler fashioned a replacement roof for Richard Zanotti s Marklin station of This Sunny Andy Cable Car (Wolverine Co., circa 1931) had parts reproduced by Ira.
