Mothers Day Brunch - Sunday May 14 Let's get together at 1 PM for a great buffet at Cedar Point Country Club 8056 Clubhouse Drive Suffolk, VA We will have beautiful river front views and lots to eat. The buffet will be about $28/person. After the meal you may wish to take in a waterfront art show at the foot of High Street in Portsmouth, VA. Please reserve early so we can get the club to set up a section of the dining room for us. Drive Out to the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond - Sunday June 4 We will meet in front of Tysinger Mercedes Benz dealership at 9:30 AM and leave promptly at 10AM for a leisurely drive to Richmond. The dealership will not be open so no bathroom facilities will be available. We will head up Interstate 64. When we get to Richmond, we will take the exit for 5th Street Downtown. We will take 5th street to East Cary Street and then go left to Sine' Irish Pub 1327 East Cary Street. At the corner of Virginia St. Make a right turn on Virginia Street and turn into a parking deck. Should be $7 for all day. There is parking on the street nearby but it is scarce. Lunch will be at 12 noon. After lunch we will walk up to RVA Trolley and Segway at 1301 East Cary St. and board an air-conditioned trolley for a tour of the beautiful and historic Hollywood Cemetery. The tour starts at 1:30 PM promptly. MBCA will be paying the $25/person trolley fare. Seating is limited to 24 persons so make your reservations early so you won't miss this nice trip. MBCA Summerfest High Performance Driving Event at NCCAR - June 10 On June 10, 2017 the MBCA Virginia Section will host a High Speed Driving Event on North Carolina s Center for Automotive Research s road course. This road course is ideally situated in Garysburg, NC and features a 40 feet wide bi-directional freshly paved road course with a ½ mile straightaway, 11 constant radius turns and large grassy run-off areas. There is no competition for times or trophies but a lot of fun to be had. Virtually any car is fully capable of handling this type of event. You must have a valid driver's license to attend. Your personal mechanic must perform a technical safety inspection before you leave home. All you need to bring is the competed technical safety inspection form and a Snell SA2010 or later helmet. If you do not have a helmet, a few loaner helmets will be available on a first come, first served basis. This event is open to all makes and models and you do not have to be a MBCA club member to participate. There will be a full day of track time and classroom instruction with 4-5 sessions in a non-timed HPDE set up. Car sharing is allowed with separate registration for each driver. This event will fill very quickly, so you will need to place your entry soon. The price for this full day at the race track is $169 for MBCA members and non-members. "Mercedes Benz Club." Driveway Mechanics Gathering - Saturday, July 17, 2017 This will be our second Driveway Mechanic Gathering of the year and the opportunity to get out and join fellow club members for coffee, donuts and a little car work. It is now time to begin thinking about your spring car projects that you can bring to the gathering and share with your fellow club members. There is always plenty time for looking into other problems or to just "kick-the-tires". That is the way these sessions work, it is really an open forum for what ever drives in. Mechanic activities will start around 9:30 a.m. We normally finish up by 1:00. For those needing advice on a problem, or needing a bit of encouragement to troubleshoot a problem, come to this event. 4 Das Stern Blatt Driveway Report - April 1 We were not fooling, on the first day of April, we got together for our first Driveway Mechanics Gathering of the year in Jim Villers' garage on Saturday, April 1. This was not a perfect day for working on cars as the temperature was cool and the chance of rain was high so attendance was a little sparse. Coffee was in great demand as were the donuts brought by Roy Wiley and David Ostrom. In spite of the conditions, Jim Free was able to adjust his front end toe-in alignment with the old school method of a string from the rear wheel. It may be old school but simple geometry indicates that we set the toe to eight minutes of angle. Bob Goodwin quickly diagnosed and repaired the air conditioning in Bob Vann s 280SL (a disconnected compressor wire). The highlight was the demonstration of the new generation of LED lights by Jim Villers. The biggest improvements are in the quality and brightness of the newest LED headlights. Jim showed the differences between a high power halogen bulb and a new LED bulb by shining the lights onto the ceiling and the difference was quite significant. There is always something new to see or learn.
