Mercedes-Benz of Virginia Beach has begun a program of providing a Mercedes-Benz Club of America (MBCA) membership to each of its new customers. Included with this membership, is a membership in the local Virginia Section. We warmly welcome you to our club and invite you to join us at one of our events. We believe in fun, friendship and Mercedes-Benz; and we eat well. Adopt-a-Street - Sunday Nov 6 This will be our final 2016 cleaning up of the portion of Virginia Beach Boulevard near the Mercedes-Benz dealership as part of the Adopt-A- Street Program sponsored by the City of Virginia Beach. Please contact Windsor L. Brabson at or wlbrab@gmail.com with questions or to volunteer Winterfest - Sunday, December 4, 2016 We will be having our traditional Winterfest 2016 brunch at the Princess Anne Country Club, 3800 Pacific Ave, Virginia Beach. The brunch will be on Sunday morning, December 4, Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. as the doors open and we will eat after a period of socialization. The extensive brunch buffet will include a breakfast fare, omelet station, fruit and lunch selections and a cash bar. Charles Barker Champions for Kids will be our charity again this year. Launched in 1994 with the goal of raising one million dollars, the goal was achieved through the generous contributions of its sponsors. Today, in its 21st year, its mission is to achieve over three million dollars. Your participation will benefit many different youth programs in Hampton Roads in the areas of counseling for teens, drug and alcohol awareness, educational scholarships, and community mentorship programs. The cost for this year's event will be $10.00 per person. As usual, the section is subsidizing this event and it is hoped that all section members will join us for brunch. We will also have the usual mix of door prizes.

3 Since Winterfest serves as our annual membership meeting there will be a short business meeting with an overview of activities planned for next year. We will also welcome any suggestions for other events that may be of interest. So, mark your calendar and send in your reservations early! Please mail the Reservation Form on page 5 or contact Jim Villers by December 1 at or by at 190SLJim@cox.net. Driveway Mechanics Gathering - Sat Nov 12 This will be our last Driveway Mechanic Gathering of the year and the opportunity to get out and join fellow club members for coffee, donuts and a little car work. It is now time to begin thinking about your winter car projects that you can bring to the gathering and share with your fellow club members. There is always plenty time for looking into other problems or to just "kick-the-tires". That is the way these sessions work, it is really an open forum for what ever drives in. Mechanic activities will start around 9:30 a.m. We normally finish up by 1:00. For those needing advice on a problem, or needing a bit of encouragement to troubleshoot a problem, come to this event. mainly from the World War II era. The art deco building, grass landing strip, checkered water tower and hangars are home to one of the world s largest collection of vintage aircraft. In addition to the various aviation sights and sounds, The local Tidewater Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America hosted a large show of wonderful cars both old and new. It is always exciting to see what will be at the show and this year s show did not let us down. The attendees were: Vince and Diane Figuenick, Claude and Dorca Bell, Bob and Bert Goodwin, Gary & Kitty Zaugg and family (celebrating Gary s 65 birthday), Don LaBar and daughters Elise, Emily, and Elaina, Jerry Shonfeld, and Roy Wiley. Driver Days Report - Oct 15 If you would like to put your project on the schedule or desire information contact Jim Villers at or by at 190SLJim@cox.net. Wings, Wheels & Pizza Report - Sep 24 This year s Wings and Wheels event was a great success with beautiful weather. We met at Pungo Pizza and Ice cream for lunch. The food was delicious and it gave us the energy to see all of the cars and airplanes at the Virginia Beach Airport. This private airport is used by the Military Aviation Museum to maintain, display and fly vintage and replica aircraft, Attending Driver Days were Don LaBar Elise, Emily, and Elaina. Carroll Forehand and his wife, 3
4 Ken and Shirley Wecht, and Tom Dawson.articipating in the parade was Ken, Shirley and Tom. Ken and Tom with their SL's and Shirley with her Das Mustang. This is the Second year The MBCA, Virginia Chapter has participated in the parade. Driver Days is just home town fun Lynchburg Overnight Rescheduled to Nov 5-6 Assemble Saturday at 8:30 AM at Virginia Diner for Breakfast. Depart Virginia Dinner about 9:30 AM. It is about a 3.5 hour trip to Lynchburg and to Cradock Terry, a Boutique Hotel. We can have a light lunch at the Water Stone, a tavern in the hotel or venture into Bedford for lunch before going to the D Day Memorial. The D Day Memorial should be on every person s bucket list. It is unlike any memorial that you ever been to because it is an artistic, factual, emotional commemorative of D Day. I have talked to the staff and if we have a party of ten, the fee will be $8.00 each and we will have a private tour which means that we will call with our ETA and they will meet us. Dinner will be at Shoemakers, a five star restaurant in the hotel. If you are not worn out, we can walk along the boardwalk which parallels the river. On Sunday, we could have brunch before touring Thomas Jefferson s Poplar Forrest home which he used as a retreat to escape from the public. We could leisurely diver back through Blackstone and enjoy the fall color. I think we are close to the ten people. If you are interested, please RSVP to Tom Dawson, or Tdawson50@aol.com. Please do not wait until the last minute, because we are trying to get corporate rates, make dinner reservations, schedule tours. Date is not etched in stone so we can flexible to accommodate the group: however, date selected will give us best chance at a fall color experience. 4
