2 2 GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE March is the beginning of spring and a time for renewal for our spirits, the natural world, and yes, even, for your Wyoming PBS memberships (!), as we launch our traditional March membership festival this month. But there is one other change/renewal I need to mention. Many of you may have already read that I have announced my retirement on June 30 and yes, I know the question will it really happen this time since I announced my retirement once before and then unretired? And the answer is yes, I am really planning to leave in June. Central Wyoming College has started the search and search committee, and I have every confidence that we will find someone who truly appreciates Wyoming and its citizens, and who can take this station to the next level of service for you. It has been an incredible opportunity to serve you and to stand on the shoulders of giants - those people who envisioned the station in 1980, who physically built the station in some hard times ( ), and my treasured current colleagues who work so hard every day to maintain service. But after 33 years, it is time for both me and the station to renew. Bob Connelly, the only other member of our first crew at Wyoming PBS in 1983, will stay on for another year or two, helping with the transition, which I appreciate. But more good times ahead - and there will be another column remembering all the highlights of the past 33 years, but for now, I just wanted to advise you of the coming change. Regarding federal funding, it is always on the edge, and with a new mandate to balance the federal budget, there may be an organized effort to pull all the federal funding from public television and radio. It would be very helpful if you could again remind our Congressional delegation how important federal funding is to the success of YOUR public media. At Wyoming PBS, we pay our PBS membership and program fees with our federal grant, and as you know, it would be very difficult for us to raise about $600,000 locally to pay this expense. Go to our website for complete addresses and phone numbers for our Congressional delegation, or call our office , for that information - we d appreciate your help in this effort. Thank you for 33 wonderful years and let s March on! Ruby Calvert General Manager Station Happenings On January 23, the Lander Library partnered with Wyoming PBS to host a screening of an eposide from the PBS series Shakespeare Uncovered, followed by a lively dialogue between a table of panelists and the audience. The panel discussion was moderated by Geoff O Gara (shown). We were also pleased to welcome Amanda Granger from the series producing station, WNET, in New York City!
