2 GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE It doesn t seem possible that 2014 is here. As we look ahead, it promises to be a year of great expectations, with the premiere of several local programs that have been in production for awhile, as well as election debates, continued legislative coverage, music specials and new signature programs (Wyoming Chronicle, Farm to Fork and Main Street, Wyoming). Some long-awaited local documentaries are scheduled for release this year: 100 Years on the Lincoln Highway, Over Wyoming, and the biography on Vice President Dick Cheney. We also expect to do another Fourth of July concert with Grand Teton Music Festival, and we re exploring some music specials originating from Dubois county. In public affairs, we will gear up to cover both primary and general statewide elections, and with five top statewide offices up for election, as well as a U.S. Senate and U.S. House seat, there will be many substantive debates to watch. Our December membership festival was mid-way at the writing of this column, but from early results, it will have been a very successful drive. Some of the shows receiving the most response: Lawrence Welk Holiday Special, Return to Downton Abbey, Great Performances: Pavarotti, and our local production Farm to Fork. But the most exciting part is that one-third of the pledges have been from new members, so on behalf of the staff, we d like to express our thanks for all your support and extend a special welcome to all our new members. And if you are a Downton Abbey fan, we hope you ll also enjoy new programs that we have purchased directly from the BBC. Frankie is a captivating drama about a nurse struggling to balance her career and her tumultuous personal life. It begins on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7pm. Look for a profile of Queen Elizabeth in The Queen s Diamond Decades starting on Sunday, Jan. 12. Finally, if you read the novel Endurance, which is the incredible story of Admiral Shackleton and his fateful trek to Antarctica, don t miss Chasing Shackleton, which begins on Wednesday, Jan. 8. There is much more to come this month and in Our best to you for a great New Year; we look forward to serving you with meaningful, engaging programs that inspire, inform and educate you and your family all year long! After all, she had a comfortable home and career as a freelance writer and was worried about living through the long Yellowstone winters. But she ended up coming and staying for more than a decade. Along the way, she forged great friendships in the tiny community she lived in, endured extremes of temperature, and witnessed the Yellowstone that tourists never experience. Wyoming Chronicle Host Richard Ager talks with Marjane about her experiences and her new book Yellowstone Has Teeth. January 10 Ambassador Marc Wall Ambassador Marc Wall has made a career of representing American interests around the world. He s conducted trade negotiations with Japan and worked to bring China and Taiwan into the world trade organization. He served as advisor to the U.S. Pacific Command. As the ambassador to Chad, he was engaged in the war against terror in Africa. He s seen it all, and he s here to talk about it. January 17 David McCullough David McCullough is happy to talk to you about the grand schemes and minute details of the major figures in American history including George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman. But don t call him a historian. He s a storyteller, and he makes the distinction clear to Wyoming Chronicle host Richard Ager. January 24 Wyoming Life Center On a hill overlooking the city of Lander, there is a collection of century-old buildings that house some of the neediest residents in the state. This is the place that has housed and cared for family members whose needs are so great that parents, no matter how well intentioned, simply cannot cope with the strain. Such care does not come cheap, and now a legislative committee is examining the future of the Life Center. We visit the Life Center and report on the latest developments. BE MORE...INNOVATIVE 3

Chasing Shackleton Wednesdays at 9pm beginning January 8 Veteran polar explorer, Tim Jarvis, is on a mission to discover exactly what happened on the most famous survival story in expedition history - Sir Ernest Shackleton s 800 nautical mile boat journey across the Southern Ocean and deadly mountain crossing of South Georgia. 4

With the educational expertise of two Wyoming history teachers, Cynthia Webb from Laramie and Suzanne Nelson from Casper, Wyoming PBS will launch a unit on the railroad s crossing of Wyoming in the 1860 s, and the impact it had while crossing the state.
