1 December 2015 STORM OF THE CENTURY program guide The Blizzard of 49 December 8 at 7pm Volume 29 Number 12

2 GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE By December 1, I ll have traveled about 2000 miles across the state talking with people about WyomingPBS. Everywhere I go people ask the same question, Why can t I get WyomingPBS on my satellite service? Only in a corridor stretching from Casper to Riverton and Lander can you get WyomingPBS on satellite. Everywhere else in the state, you get an out of state station. The technical reason is that the satellite services receive sites, where they collect the signals to send to you, are out of state. Billings, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Idaho City are all receive sites. And our signals don t reach that far. However, the underlying reason is - they don t have to. Unlike cable companies, who are required to carry local PBS stations, satellite services have no such requirement. We hope this may soon change. Thanks to the comments, petitions, and state Legislative resolutions nationwide, the FCC has revised the rules. A new policy, awaiting Office of Management and Budget approval, may get us on in the Cheyenne area. Other parts of the state remain a problem, but we continue looking for solutions. Still, there are ways for satellite subscribers to enjoy WyomingPBS programs. One is to try a simple indoor digital antenna. Unlike the old rabbit ears, these antennas pick up the digital signals broadcast by local TV stations. Best of all, the picture is far better than cable, often breathtaking in its quality. Not everyone is in a location to pick up one of our 32 transmitters, so save your receipt! Online is the other way to watch WyomingPBS productions. Visit wyomingpbs.org and click on Watch. All of our local shows are available online within a day of broadcast. Some are even available online before we air them! You can watch them on your computer, laptop, and mobile device. You can watch them on your TV using Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and even Xbox. For details, visit wyomingpbs.org/anywhere. As always, thank you for watching and thank you for supporting WyomingPBS. 15 Underwriter Spotlight Cook and Associates: Specializing in Estate Planning The lawyers and staff at Cook and Associates in Laramie believe that any estate planning decisions a client makes are the right decisions if the client is aware of the available options to meet his or her individual needs. They enjoy helping clients create an estate plan that addresses their individual goals, values, and needs. Cook and Associates is committed to serving the estate planning needs of individuals and families by: Providing clients with the most current estate planning information and legal counseling services available Providing a detailed evaluation of clients goals and concerns and how they may be addressed by available estate planning options Providing ongoing review and updating of clients estate plans to address changes in personal needs, goals, finances, and the law Providing clients with peace of mind that their affairs are in order. Since 2010, Cook and Associates has supported Wyoming PBS as an underwriter, first on Washington Week and currently on the Nightly Business Report. In addition, they have partnered with the Wyoming PBS Foundation to offer free estate planning seminars in the east and southeast region of the state. So when you see Craig or Dennis or any of the staff, be sure to say thanks for their consistent support of Wyoming PBS. You can find out more at Dec. 1 at 7:45pm - Charles Belden: Cowboy Photographer - This episode features many of Belden s most famous photographs, interviews with his grand daughter and Belden historians, a restoration of his darkroom, and a movie made by Belden: Where West is still West. [Repeats 12/5 at 1:45pm] MAIN STREET, WYOMING Dec. 8 at 8:30pm - Mystery of the Horse Creek Girl - Fifty years after Horse Creek Girl s remains were found, a seemingly simple tribal identification project blossomed into a complex, multi-discipline study. As a result, we now have an idea of how the Horse Creek Girl may have lived and died, and we get a different look at early reservation history. Dec. 8 at 9:15pm and Dec 29 at 8:30pm - Cowboys of the Sky - We look at the brave aviation pioneers who connected the coasts by flying U.S. Airmail across the country. Pilots like Slim Lewis, James Murray, Hal Colleson, and Jack Knight were among the most notable, braving the rugged skies in Wyoming and across the Rocky Mountain Region. BE MORE...THOUGHTFUL 15
