GOOD LIFE NEWS From Our President We hope everyone has had a great summer and your Airstreams have enhanced your experience Our family had many adventures and our Airstream supported them in style. Our son graduated from high school and we took him and his best friend to Key West to celebrate. We stayed at an RV park where our site had its own private dock and a tiki hut complete with refrigerator and outdoor TV. There was charter fishing, paddle boarding and jet skiing. I cannot tell you how many great places we went to eat, all on the water, all very good. Our next Airstream trip took us to Clermont where Janet had arranged a flight in a glider plane as a birthday gift for me. I have always wanted to fly without the noise and vibration of an engine and this was one of my best experiences. Since we were near Orlando the boys went to Universal Studios while the adults enjoyed the peace of more sedate activities. Our next trip took us to Pensacola where we just planned to relax and sight see. Downtown Pensacola has an enclave of vintage Airstreams serving a variety of food in an outdoor food court. There were lots of customers enjoying lunch. We towed to the beach near Saint Augustine, and toured the historic city by Segway. The Segway was very easy to learn and operate in addition to being lots (Continued on page 3) Fifth Annual Tom Moore Memorial Rally October 23 27, 2014; Daytona Beach KOA; Port Orange, FL$ It is time to sign-up for our Daytona Beach Unit Rally. In the back of this newsletter is a schedule of the great activities planned for this rally and a registration form. We have designed the schedule to meet the interests of our outdoor enthusiasts and those interested in the local attractions. With a Rally Fee of $20.00 per person along with the KOA site cost of only $20.00 per night, I am sure you will all agree that this is a great value. So if you want to enjoy four nights of camping, lots of available activities, and the opportunity to get to know or catch up with the adventures of your fellow Airstreamers sign-up today If you can t make it for the Rally, we hope you can make it to the Members Meeting scheduled for Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 am at the campground. This time allows members to enjoy the rest of the day doing the activities of their choice. Look for the schedule and the rally registration form in the back of this newsletter. If you would like to volunteer to sponsor a continental breakfast or the Pot Luck dinner please contact us.we look forward to receiving your sign-up so that we can plan accordingly. See you in October -Brad & Janet McGloin, Rally Hosts$ YOUR 2015 WBCCI AND UNIT DUES ARE DUE NOW This is the time of year I hate the most, asking our members for their dues. It makes me feel like I m begging, so please don t make me beg, and send your dues to me. Dues are $75.00 per year: $65.00 to WBCCI, and $10.00 to the FL Unit (Lifetime Members pay only the $10.00 Unit dues see my note in this newsletter. Affiliate Member dues, those that pay their WBCCI dues through another unit, are $10.00). Our Unit dues remain at $10.00 as they have for the past 20 years. Please try to get your dues to me by October 15, With me spending most of the summer in and out of the hospital, I m a little bogged down and would appreciate your support, and that way your name will be sure to make it into the 2015 WBCCI Directory. Otherwise, your membership is good till December. With our proposed, 2015 affordably priced rally schedule that will be presented at the October Members Meeting, you should want to remain a member of our Unit that now stands at over 100 families Many of our rallies are by reservation only due to limited space, so an advantage of being a member of the Florida Unit is that you will never be turned away from one of our rallies for lack of space. Make your checks payable to WBCCI Florida Unit, and send them to me: Frank Carson, PO Box 135, Crosswicks, NJ Questions: please contact me at fc23343@aol.com, or (321) PAGE 1

FROM OUR PRESIDENT (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) of fun. Our most recent Airstream trip was to Daytona to make all the arrangements for the upcoming rally. Somehow Janet and I ended up on a speed boat with our son and his best friend parasailing in the distance. With all of the activity of the summer our 1966 Airstream restoration project is sitting in storage just waiting for me to have some time to work on it. Region 3 has announced that the 2015 Region 3 rally will be April 29 May3 at Exchange Park, Ladson, South Carolina, near Charleston. More details well be announced soon. We have lived in the Charleston area in the past and it is a great place to visit the historical sites. Janet has put together the information for the upcoming Daytona Rally and you will find an article, rally schedule and rally coupon in this newsletter. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone in Daytona -Brad McGloin Our Last Events in 2014 DAYTONA BEACH KOA UNIT RALLY; PORT ORANGE, FL, OCTOBER 23 27, 2014 See write-up on page 1. More details of the Member s Meeting (agenda, candidates, planned rallies, motions, etc.) will be forthcoming in a supplement newsletter before the meeting. CRACKER CHRISTMAS VOLUNTEER AND INSTALLATION RALLY; CHRISTMAS, FL; DECEMBER 3 8, 2014 Starting on December 3 and ending on December 8 will be our annual Cracker Christmas Rally. This will be our 16th year assisting Fort Christmas Staff. The rally fee is $16.00 per person (no fee weekenders only), and includes parking and approximately eight meals including a great group pot-luck with the living history actors at the Bee Head Ranch House on Saturday. Another of the eight meals will be a pot-luck with the entrée supplied. Camping is not permitted at Fort Christmas except for our Unit. You will have water and enough electric amps to run keep your batteries charged, and watch TV. During the days, we assist the employees at Fort Christmas with decorating and cleaning the houses. Our afternoons happy hours are a great opportunity to get to know your Unit members, and ask questions (and get answers) about your Airstream and the WBCCI. On Saturday and Sunday, our Unit is asked to volunteer for three hours a day as a docent at one of the many restored and reconstructed homes and fort at Fort Christmas. I m asking the Unit Executive Board to assist in the table decorations and job assignments. I just turned 75 in August (44 years as a member of the WBCCI), and with my injury I can always use help (BTW: I still expect many more years). Again, there is no fee if you can only make it for the weekend. Your check and coupon (in the back of this newsletter) should be mailed starting November 1 to: Frank Carson; 43 Alpha Lane; Melbourne, FL Note: Please bring extra electric cords, preferably 10-gauge if you have it, and extra 5/8-inch water hose and a free flowing Y hose connector. Mark all your equipment with your WBCCI#. Directions to Fort Christmas: Address, 1300 Fort Christmas Rd; Christmas, FL. Fort Christmas Rd is approximately 10 miles west of I-95. Turn right (north) on Fort Christmas Rd (look for the Christmas Tree). Go two miles north on Fort Christmas Rd, the Fort will be on your left. Pull in at entrance, bear left to go past the Visitor Center/ Gift Shop, go to end of pavement and continue straight until one of the parkers picks you up. You will be parked on fairly level ground on a grass field grass. -Frank Carson PAGE 3

THE MACIEJCZYK BROTHERS MINI CARAVAN This summer Elsie, Dan and I went on a mini-caravan. We started at the local KOA near our home in St Petersburg Florida on July 4th. We stayed at the KOA for four nights before heading out on our mini caravan stopping at five more campgrounds and staying for 2 nights at each one to explore the many amenities each area/park had to offer. Overall it was a fantastic trip and we all had an awesome time. The parks were: The Stephen Foster Folk Cultural Center, O Leno State Park, Manatee Springs State Park, Rainbow Springs State Park, and Crystal Isles RV Resort. We canoed, kayaked or tubed the Suwannee, Santa Fe and the Ichetucknee rivers. July 4th weekend was great at the KOA with lots of swimming, canoeing and fishing. The next stop on our mini caravan was The Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in High Springs Florida. We spent the day canoeing the Suwannee River; we started at the parks canoe launch and did about three miles upriver to a picnic area then returned downstream back to the starting point 2 hours up stream and 45 minutes to return. It was a good day. We explored the park complete with its many amenities: Bell Tower, Museum, Indian Village, craft areas, cabins and many other park features. The museum building has displays of old pianos and dioramas of some of Stephen Foster s songs. Very nice And there is also a building setup as a hall with a kitchen for those that wish to rent space for private events. It s a nice park to visit and almost all the sites are shady. The days were warm to say the least but at night the temperature dropped to about 71. Great for a campfire and roasting a few marsh mellows. We departed there and began to work our way south. Next stop, O Leno State Park. About one hour south on US-41. Another great park with lots of amenities. O Leno State Park is near High Springs Florida. If you like shady heavily wooded campsites this is the place for you Plus it s on the Santa Fe River, a tributary of the Suwannee River, which also has the tannish sulfur waters thought to have healing powers. I now consider myself healed of all ailments due to a refreshing swim in the river at the parks swimming area. They do have canoeing here as well, however, we opted to go up the road a bit to Ichetucknee State Park. This park has a great venue, you rent tubes and launch at the park then drift in a tube, canoe or Kayak down the Ichetucknee River, about 2 4 hours depending on where you wish to get out, and the park will take one person back to get your vehicle. How cool is that I canoed towing Elsie in her tube and Dan kayaked. Right as we departed the launch site in our water craft it started to rain. No problem really since we were hot and in the water anyway. Very, very cool What a beautiful way to spend the day We arrived at Manatee Springs State Park on Friday July 11th, another great park There s a clear fresh water spring that feeds the Suwannee River. A great place to enjoy a cool dip on a hot day. You can see the bottom, fish, turtles etc. We took another ride up to Mays Landing about four miles up the Suwannee River for another great canoe ride down stream back to Manatee Springs. The park was loaded with wildlife. We had deer walking around our campsite unafraid of the people around. I was able to walk within about 20 feet before they started walking away. The camp store had a great deal on a s mores kit, six Hersey bars, a bag of marsh mellows, and a box of grams for $6.00 Sunday July 13th we arrived at Rainbow Springs State Park, this too was a nice park. The best part was the clear water, PAGE 5

spring river for kayaking/canoeing/and tubing. I did a four mile canoe trip all the while towing Elsie in a tube down this great river, unfortunately I forgot to take my camera but no doubt we ll see this river again. Clear, cool and a great ride down stream. At the end of our ride and at the get out point was Swampy s Bar and Grill, which was a welcome sight since we were all hungry and thirsty This was a great park to visit, not as nice as some of the others but the river was the best by far. The campsite we had was in the sun, there were other nicer sites so maybe it will be a little better next time around given a better site. But it still was a good place to visit. Sorry I didn't get more pictures Our last few days we stayed at the Crystal Isles RV Resort. This park was nice, it had a nice pool/party area and was on a river and offered a boat ramp. This park was definitely a favorite of the boaters with some good fishing and an outlet to Crystal River. Although all the sites were mostly booked it wasn t that busy during the week. Most rented the sites and stored their RV s and boats there and only came on the weekends. Also, there were kayak rentals and such there for those interested. We didn t do any canoeing here this trip, mostly we just hung out and enjoyed the pool and some down time after the last two weeks of canoeing and tubing. Our mini caravan was a great fun, and I look forward to doing a similar trip again. Elsie loved tubing and thought the overall trip was great and it was great having Uncle Dan joining us on our adventure. -Tom Maciejczyk PHIL & DORIS TRIP TO MASSACHUSETTS Doris and I decided to take our Airstream up to Mass this summer, specifically Sandwich on Cape Cod, where our son Eric and his wife Jennifer live.we left in mid-june and headed up I-95. First stop was New Green Acres in Walterboro, SC. Next day we headed for Luray Caverns, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in western Virginia. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it is there. Not a trashy, touristy place, but nicely maintained and clean. Doris didn t think too much of going 145 feet below ground, so I made the trip alone, along with about 20 others in our guided tour group. Again, well maintained and fascinating creations, all done by a gracious God. I heartily recommend a stop there if you are anywhere nearby. You have to negotiate downtown Luray and go up and down a small mountain, but if I did it with my 34-footer, you can do it too. That night we stayed at the Luray KOA, kind of pricey, but one of the nicest KOA s we ve been to. In the morning we headed for Newburgh, NY to cross the Hudson River and went on into Connecticut. I m not sure if it s shorter, but the route through New York via the George Washington Bridge should be avoided at all costs and the Tappan Zee isn t much better. We drove through Connecticut and then dropped down to pick up I- 95 once again to Mystic Seaport, another great place to visit, and then headed along the Rhode Island coast into Massachusetts on I-195. That takes you to I-495 and then on to Cape Cod over one of their famous bridges. Of course local natives know to take the much quicker and faster tunnel under the Cape Cod Canal. We found our campground in Sandwich, MA, appropriately named Dunroamin and got a really Dunroamin Trailer Park PAGE 6

nice wooded site, quiet, full hook-ups, and literally half the price of the resort campground next door. We spent the next four weeks, visiting with Eric & Jen, some old friends from work, and seeing other family in Connecticut on the way home. We ate at several local restaurants and enjoyed wonderful New England seafood like fresh cod, fried clams, scallops, lobster rolls. If you are in Sandwich, stop by Marshlands for lunch or supper. If you go to Sam s, you ll want to drive about 200 yards to the Canal s edge and if you re lucky, you might see a cruise ship, cargo ship, or tanker making its way through. Or you can just sit and watch folks fishing and enjoying the view. The Cape Cod Canal is 7 miles long and 480 feet wide, the widest canal in the world. Our 4 weeks on The Cape ended too soon and we headed home but not before a weekend at a cousin s in Connecticut where we camped in their sand and gravel company yard. (It s next to their beautiful home and her alpaca farm and store). Phil & Doris at Marshlands Restaurant Great seafood Award winning stuffed quahogs Also, a local fast food place, Seafood Sam s, is right on the Cape Cod Canal and serves a fantastic lobster roll Don t miss the Lobster Hut in Plymouth right on the water. Get an ice cream at Peaceful Meadows and stroll along the waterfront to the Mayflower and the world famous Plymouth Rock, a must-see historic site. Adelman Sand & Gravel One sad note and a word of caution, we passed an accident scene in Maryland on I-81. There were two fatalities. PLEASE, be careful out there. Another great Airstream adventure If you would like to go up that way, I d be happy to give you some tips. -Phil & Doris Drugge & Sunshine the cat.$ Cape Cod Canal WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT UPDATE We received a nice letter thanking us for the donation of $1, Please see the letter on page 11 of this newsletter PAGE 7

We bought our Lifetime Membership about 15 years ago. At that time, I figured it took about 10 years to break even, and we have been riding on a free ticket now for the past few years. Have any of you considered that? If you have already paid your dues for this year, that would be deducted from the lifetime cost. -Frank$ Tom Scheitler & Jeanne Seip$ On, Tuesday September 9, 2014 Tom and Jeanne were married at a ceremony on Michigan s upper peninsula. Tom & Susan Thompson$ Tom and Susan just returned from a four month, 15,000 mile Airstream trip to California. David Barr$ It has been three months since I underwent Bi-Lateral Knee replacement and one month since I finished Knee-Hab. I have excellent movement in my knees, but the pain still lingers, even though it is lessening as the days go by. I would like to thank all of you who sent me Get Well cards, s, called me and kept me in your thoughts and prayers. Patsy and I are planning to be at the Daytona Rally, and I hope to see all of you there. -David Barr PAGE 8
