1 Scuttlebutt Model A Friends, Happy St. Patrick s Day It looks like we really are headed for Spring somewhat early this year. With daylight savings time starting Sunday, there will be more time to drive your Model A. etc. There were six Model A's and two modern cars that went to Carnegie last Saturday to the movies. They said they had a great time and enjoyed the drive. Sometimes the shorter drives are the most fun. Plan to join us on our next Saturday drive and check it out. As you know, we are hosting the 2017 MAFCA Awards Banquet November 29 December 2 and we need to be getting together raffle items. Be thinking about items relating to the Model A and/or items that other members might be interested in having but keeping in mind that a lot of the attendees will be traveling by air. Also, Don and Marilyn Mitchell have asked us to save coffee containers which will be used to put the raffle tickets in for the various items. We are having another Steering Committee Meeting on Monday, April 24th at 6:30 pm at Phil and Kaye's house. To overcome this, cut the extension hooks off of a Model A brake shoe spring and screw just the spring part onto the sensor. The diameter is close enough to fit snugly without any additional work. This will act as a heat sink and conduct the heat to the thermometer. Submitted by Roy Williams, Florence, Kentucky.

5 Volume 50, Issue 3 Sooners Go To The Movies Page 5 The Sooner Model A Club traveled to Carnegie Oklahoma to visit the Liberty Theatre. Liberty Theatre is the oldest continuously operating movie theater in Oklahoma, since It has three screens and shows first run movies. Beautiful Art Deco/Art Nouveau theatre. Elaborately detailed metal ceilings and the original ticket booth. The theater was redecorated in 2005, but it still looks great. Those of us who went to the movies 70 years ago will feel right at home. Be sure to visit the concession stand and try one of their show dogs. They are locally famous and delicious. They are even better with a show coke and some popcorn. Just make sure you have some chili on them, they just aren't the same without it. Another added benefit is admission is only $4, compare that to AMC. Six Model A s made the trip from Greg and Sheryl Hoyle s home in Minco to Carnegie. Three modern cars also went. The day was sunny and chilly, but the scenery was beautiful. The photos were provided by Michael Downes.

7 Volume 50, Issue 3 Page 7 The Operation and Repair of the Front Brakes Demonstrated by Bob Bordwine at the February Meeting Bob brought his front brake mockup to the February meeting so that he could explain the workings of the mechanical brake, the sources of wear, the repair and adjustment of the mechanical brake. Bob pointed out that today s cars utilize hydraulic brakes, but the Model A s mechanical system can still be rejuvenated to give like-new service. A mechanical braking system is merely a mass of levers and rods from the pedal to the brake drums which create movements to spread the brake shoes against the drums to stop the car. The prime interest and concern in the restoration of the brakes is to eliminate all possible wear and strive to achieve full mechanical advantage. Bob pointed out the main points of wear and also described how the brakes are activated by the brake pedal. A future demo will describe the rear brakes. SOONER MODEL A CLUB P.O.
