1942 Olde Since 1983 News Since 1935 St. Augustine Since 1565 Ancient City Auto Club Antique Automobile Club of America February, 2016 Ron Leone s 1963 Hinkel Trojan Cabine 200 needed a little assist to leave the airshow at Palatka on Saturday, January 30, This little blue beauty is one of only four in the world and the only one in the United States. Manufactureed in Argentina. Dewey Porter, Bob Quackenbush, Dave Burrows, Doug Hunsworth, Peter Starr, Cliff Williams, Ron Leone, Joe Greeves, were among participants at the airshow from ACAC. From all reports it was a good time had by all. Ron always follows the food and reported that a gourmet lunch was available for a $10 donation. About the above photo as reported by Joe Greeves: Jinny, Fun in the mud! Ron didn't have a hook on the bottom of the PT Cruiser so I suggested he run the strap through the A-pillars. I flagged down a pickup, owned by Scott Cooney. It worked! additional photos show the car successfully saved from its predicament and safely headed home. Thanks, Joe! More on the show

Salt Life Eat-Out January 28, 2016 Where there s a will, there s a way. A crowded restaurant did not keep us from eating out on a rainy night. Marge and Fred Bauer, Jim and Tuni Weiss, and Dave Burrows dined at a table in the bar section, Jim and Rita Arpaia came late and joined Hope and Ray Emery, sitting with Donna and Dick Sherrod, who had arrived an hour early to secure seating. You can see that Ann and Joe Greeves (with camera) along with Ron Leone (face obscured) and Bill Soman with David Cameron also had a seat at the table. Bob Q. took these shots of two of the planes. Bob, Dewey, Bob-below Ron Leone shares this pretty lady from the airshow looks like the same plane that caught Bob Quackenbush s eye. Please find Dewey s excellent write-up on page 11. 2

These are just some nice photos of Cliff Williams with some of the planes on display. This photo was taken at the St. Augustine Cruisers Cruise-In in January. What could be better than good friends and lots of cars? Pictured above Ron Leone, Bill Soman, Dick Sherrod, and Bob Quackenbush following are some pictures of the cars on display: 3

There were quite a few cars that bore For Sale signs I think this one belongs to Ray and Hope Emery. Many participants had spent the whole day at car shows including the one at Visual FX on SR 207 to benefit a cancer patient. Dick Sherrod left parking lights on nice T-Bird. Dewey Porter displayed this 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for sale terms were posted on the windshield. (See above right.) Muscled stang. 4

PALATKA CAR & AIR SHOW JAN Several members met at the Speedway station and departed for Palatka at 8:15 AM for a beautiful sunny drive through the villages of Vermont Heights, Elkton, Hastings, East Palatka and on thru the metropolis of Palatka and continued west of town to the airport. We parked on grass surrounding the runways joining about 50 cars that were already there and were followed in by another 50 or more. No registration fee, no judging, just display. About 9:30 AM the planes began arriving with the PA telling the crowd what was approaching and from where. Each aircraft landed and taxied to the display apron and was soon ready for spectators to get up close. When they had all come in there were about 60 of them from the early 1930 s on through World War II military aircraft. Hopefully someone got photos of the very colorful group. ACAC had at least 12 members attending and perhaps a few more I failed to see in the big crowd. There was Jim & Rita Arpaia in their 56 Lincoln Premiere HT, Bob & Janice Beach, Dave Burrows 48 Mercury Woodie wagon, Ray & Hope Emery a GM sedan from the 60 s, not sure of make & model (senior moment), Doug Hunsworth 39 Ford Deluxe 2 dr, New member Peter Leonard riding along with Peter Starr in his 1953 Studebaker Commander convert with the top down no less, Ron Leone with Cliff Williams riding along towing the Heinkel micro car, Jim O Connor with his 53 Mercedes convert, Dewey Porter riding along with Bob Quackenbush driving his 50 Chev Woodie wagon, Dick Sherrod ( did not see his ride) A good turnout for one of the first car shows of the new year. ---Dewey Porter 2016 Officers Ancient City Auto Club President Dick Sherrod cell j_sherrod@bellsouth.net 8249 Colee Cove Branch Rd., St. Augustine, FL Vice President Brian Wirz wirzbc@bellsouth.net 8161 Six Mile Way, St. Augustine, FL Treasurer Donna Sherrod cell Colee Cove Branch Rd., St. Augustine, FL donnabeard8249@icloud.net Secretary Jennifer Steinberger jsteinberger@att.net Charmwood Dr., St. Augustine, FL Activities Dewey Porter ddpnamp@aol.com Crestwood Dr., St. Augustine, FL Car Show Karen Erwin staugwed@aug.com Brookes Ct., St. Augustine, FL Eat Out Ron Leone rjleone111@yahoo.com Contera Dr., St. Augustine, FL Founding Member Bob Quackenbush West Genung St., St. Augustine, FL magaquack@aol.com Olde News Editor Jinny Quackenbush W. 17 The Last Word: Remember when? submitted by Bill Soman. Ancient City Auto Club has enjoyed a very active start this year with good participation from the membership. Three events especially were very well represented thanks to the good work Dewey Porter does in reminding us each week of the possibilities. Thanks to the Arpaias for keeping us aware of the Air Show in Palatka. Thanks to Joe Greeves for providing photo coverage. Salt Life was so much fun thanks, Ron Leone. The show at FX was also enthusiastically supported by ACAC and most continued into the evening with the Cruise-In near Hobby Lobby. Check the activities list and mark your calendars so you don t miss out on any exciting plans for this year. Food is always a good draw for our people, so we really lucked out at Palatka with planes, cars, and lunch. plus a pretty day. Good way to get new members as Peter Starr brought a friend. Just so you know, I have reserved the Caddy Shack for all of our meetings for If we need to make any adjustments along the way, we can, but the place is secure for the first Thursday of each month for our regular meeting. Happy Motoring! Dick Sherrod, President Submitted also by Bill and Dee Soman. Meeting Thursday Night at Caddy Shack-6 eat; 7- meet. See you there! 17
