3 State Rep s Corner Well Friends, summer is half over. Still several events to go. Got back from the International Rally Friday afternoon. It took over an extra hour because I tried to out think my GPS. It was another wonderful rally, the Washington group did a great job. They fixed breakfast in the morning for $5 and it was very good. They brought us ice in the afternoon. There were lots of door prizes. I won two 50/50 pots and came out a few dollars ahead. The weather and fires in the area were quite a concern. I talked to Kevin on Thursday and the weather was going to get better. So went ahead with plans to go. There have been some new changes in leadership. Joy is going to turn the role of International Rep over to Dan Magee. Dan is from Medicine Hat, Alberta. Rich Hines will be the new Washington Rep. Kevin and Kevi want to spend more time with their grandkids. Mary Nordby has found someone to take over Seattle. Sorry I can t remember their names. I have asked Ben Altman to take over as Oregon Rep starting in We are hosting the 2016 International in Rickreall, Oregon, just west of Salem. I want to thank the reps for their outstanding work over the years. The new people will do a fine job. Dan had some great new ideas that have a history of working. So please keep an open mind to new ideas and at least give them a try. Della, and I along with Ben will need lots of help getting ready for the International with the LOGO, shirts, pins, rides and door prizes. Many hands make the work much easier. The Corn Feed is just a few days away, and then the Coos Bay campout. Looking forward to seeing you in the near future. The Roseburg meeting had the normal crowd. The discussion about trikes verses Spiders continues. We talked about the Agness Corn Feed. Don is planning a slight change in the menu, don t worry, nothing serious. It won t turn your hair green or anything. Ride and be happy Zack Grants Pass Hi Everyone This July has been a hot one down here in Southern Oregon. Anything much over 100 degrees and I get shy about riding in it. But then a ride to the coast is good. thank Mike Driscol for helping me with it all and for doing such a good job cooking. Also a big thank you to our friends at ABATE for the use of their canopies, tables, chairs etc.and Lance, Karen and Danny for transporting it all and helping with preparation and getting it all set up. Ride safe and have fun Rick Foley Milwaukie Tygh Vally & Oregon State Rally: July (2-6) got off to a great start with hot dry weather in Tygh Valley. This was the 29th year at Tygh Valley. If I got the history correct, the first year (1985) was organized by Lloyd Reed (out of Bend) and attended by Steve Close, Peppermint Patty, Dick Cz and Gus & Rose Pointer. This year we had 46 registered campers and 12 drop-ins. Mary Nordby (sister) volunteered to assist me in getting everything hauled over there with her motorhome and trailer and I rode over. All went well, except the motorhome broke down out of Dufer, but she finally arrived by tow truck. O course the rig had to also leave in the same manner, being hauled down to the Ford dealer in The Dalles. It turns out that one of the two repair shops that had just worked on it, incorrectly left connected the fule injection control system, including loose wires, which caused it to backfire and ultimately quit running. The rest of the rally went very well. On Saturday I led a group of about 12 into Hood River to the WAAAM (Western Antique Airplane and Auto) Museum. It was good ride, including my unintended figure eight turnaround, which I would have liked to had on video. It turns out, I knew exactly where the WAAAM was, I just didn t know exactly how to get there from the south side, so I turned too early and had to back track. But everyone followed, just like a parade. If anyone wants a Tygh Valley shirt and/or a pin, I have a few extra shirts ($10) and many pins ($5). Shirts available include: one large short sleeve, one large long sleeve, three XL short sleeve, 4 XL long sleeve, 1 XXL short sleeve and 6 XXL long sleeve. July 12: We had a short list of attendees, just 7 for breakfast. John and Roger were out getting Grand Tour Checkpoints, and I have no idea what everyone else was doing. July 19: Dick Cz and I rode to Lebanon for their breakfast. To Floyd s surprise, we were joined by Mike Oday and his friend Gary (a new member) and Gary Shearer. Very nice ride, perfect weather. Back on June 28th, we held a Picnic/BBQ at Indian Mary Park. We had a real nice picnic area, great weather and a good turn-out. I think there was 35 showed up. I know we served 34 hamburgers a whole bunch of hot dogs. It was good to see Zack, Duane and Archie ride down from Roseburg. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for coming out and making the Picnic a success. It was great to see everyone there having a good time together. Most of all I want to ANNOUNCEMENT: 5th Saturday Ride (August 30th). Zack Hoffman and Ben Altman have conspired to organize a North meets South Ride. The gathering point for lunch will be Aunt Ding s Restaurant, McKenzie Highway, about 13 miles east of Springfield on Hwy 126. Meet at 1 PM.
