1 NORTHWINDS October 2016 Porsche Club of America Shasta Region Inc. P.O. Box Redding, CA The October Tour was originally rained out, but rescheduled for six days later but it turned out to be a good decision and it was a great success. We drove (what has become) our Annual Boat Ramp drive to Silverthorn/Jones Valley. The lake was about 60 feet higher than last year, so we finally got to see water, boats and houseboats. There were actually people fishing and enjoying the lake for a change! The higher water level meant that we parked in the "turnaround" rather than on the ramp itself. It led to some good photos and videos which you can see on our Facebook Page. The Tour getting us there took us up US299 to the Oak Run Grade. Many of the participants had never been on this "roller coaster ride". Even for those who have, it never gets old. There are a couple of short videos on Facebook of us going up and over the mountain. We took a break at the Holiday Market in Palo Cedro before driving a circuitous route to the lake, then back to Robin and Allen Krohn's home for a leisurely Pizza and Beer lunch in their backyard gardens. There were a total of 37 people in 18 Porschesè12 Boxsters; 1 Cayman; 3 Carreras; 1 928; and 1 Panamera. We drove for 1 hr 55 minutes and covered 75 miles. Of course, those that came from Tehama, Butte and Siskiyou Counties logged a bit more. The weather was a perfect 70 degrees, there was no wind and the skies were clear. Of course, the Fall colors were near their peak--an added bonus. All in all, a great day. 9 Shasta Region Zone Tour Schedule Save This Date! Tour #10 -- Nov 13 Chico/Thunderhill/Stony Gorge Res./Black Bu!e/Farwood Grill (Meet at 7:00/Leave 7:30) 4 hr 35 min 231 miles from Redding to Redding; Chico to Redding Total Drive = 3:37 and 170 miles Sunday, November 13, Weather looks good--partly cloudy. High in the high 60's. No rain in the forecast. This is the last formal Tour of the year, so we should have a good turnout. This is the one that tours Western Butte and Glenn Counties and ends in Orland at the Farwood Grill. Northern Members: We will meet at the Churn Creek Starbucks at 7:00 am (yes, that is correct) and do a quick sign in so we can go down together and meet up with the Southern Members as we have done in the past. (If you are late, then just head down there and meet us there.) Southern Members: meet at the Forest Ave Starbuck's at 8:30 and those of us driving down to meet you should be there between 8:30 and 8:45. We would like to have a 9:00 departure so we need to get our instructions and Safety Talk done right away. If you have a radio, please bring it. If not, we have some Club radios. Allen will call the Farwood Grill when we leave to give them a final Head Count. They will have a "limited menu" for us, but everyone seemed happy with it last time we were there. If anyone is planning to meet us at the Farwood Grill, but NOT go on Tour, you will have to let me know so I can include you in the count. Dave and Leslie Evans will lead the Tour and Allen will be Sweep. We will ask for two volunteers to be "Relay 1" and "Relay 2." We expect to have a Special Guest---Craig Steele is the Redwood Region (Santa Rosa based) President and he plans to tour with us. He said he will be coming up on Saturday and staying the night. So he should be there bright and early. If you see a new face arriving in a Porsche, it is likely him. Please say 'hi' and give him a Shasta Region Welcome!

14 In The Zone Thanks to everyone who attended the last Concours of 2016 at Livermore Porsche on Sunday October 9 th. It was a beautiful day. That wrapped up all the Zone series for the year. Dates for 2017 are in the works as you read this. We will have a tentative calendar out after the zone presidents meeting in November. You are all invited to the Zone 7 Year End Awards Banquet. It will be held at the Clarion Hotel in concord on Saturday, November 5 th at 6pm. Come cheer on the 2016 winners in Autocross, Concours and special Zone awards. Everyone is welcome. Dinner is $55 per person. You can register at or mail a check made out to Zone 7/PCA to me at 1339 Glen Dell Drive, San Jose, CA The Clarion has rooms for $99 per night, plus tax. That will include breakfast at the Bistro Restaurant. Tech Tactics is a PCA National event to be held at the PCNA Training facility in Ontario CA. There could still be time to register for Tech Tactics West. Check on line at Motorsportreg.com for the Sunday, November 20 th event. They are expanding to two days. Saturday is sold out at this time. For those of you whom are wondering about Parade registration for the Spokane Parade, here is what I know to date. There will again be two parts to the registration. The first part will be registering for Parade and housing. This will take place in January. The second part will be signing up for events. That will take place in early April. I have also heard there will be no limit on how many can attend. There are plenty of hotel rooms for all who d like to attend this West Coast Parade. The Werks Reunion 2017 is looking for a few more key people to help plan, organize and follow through with the numerous tasks it take to put on the event. There will be more to come on the beautiful new site as soon as the final contract is signed. If you are interested it stepping up, please let me know.
