Box Redding, CA Tourmeister Report--September 2016 Tourmeister's Report for September 2016 Besides Cars & Coffee Chico and Redding, there were two big events this month: The USAF Show and Shine and the Yosemite Tour. The Show and Shine was an extension of the Shasta Region PCA annual car show to include all of the other Clubs in the area. Our Charity of the Year was the USAF Memorial Fund. To say it was a great success would be an understatement. There were over 50 cars entered including Porsches, Corvettes, Minis, Classics, Modifieds, and one Ferrari, among others. The weather was great and everyone had a good time. Of course, the Yosemite Tour was our Big Tour of the Year. Twelve Porsches including five Boxsters, three 911s, two Caymans, one 968 and a Panamera carried 23 Members/Co-Members over 964 miles in 24 driving hours without a mechanical problem or a bit of bad weather! The primary route was Hwy 36 out of Red Bluff to Lake Almanor then Hwy 89 to Lake Tahoe where we stayed our first night at Stateline, NV. Then we took the Luther Pass, part of the Carson and Ebbet's Passes on our way down the entire Monitor Pass where 89 ends on US395 in the Nevada High Desert. From there we made our way to Mono Lake and the Tioga Pass where we crossed into Yosemite at 9945 feet elevation. We spent two days in Yosemite at the upscale Tenaya Lodge as our "base" and had a couple of great dinners and a fabulous Brunch (in the former Ahwanhee, now the Majestic Hotel). We were able to drive up to Glacier Point which was probably the best part of the Tour. We drove every road in the Valley at least once. On Monday, three couples stayed over. On our way back, the remaining nine took a very scenic return route up the foothills of the Sierras and the Gold Country on Hwy 49. This road affords some of best Porsche driving in the State of California, especially the section from Placerville to Auburn. All in all, the feedback was "Best Tour Ever." I think we will have to repeat this one! Probably not for a few years though. Check out the Club's Facebook Page. There are lots of photos and a few videos. October 16th Tour: Deschutes, Oak Run, Silverthorn Boat Ramp. Hosted Lunch at Robin Krohn's Gardens in Redding. We will be asking for a "head count." November 13th Tour: Butte and Glenn County country Tour--Stony Gorge/Black Butte Reservoir area and lunch at Farwood Grill in Orland.
