Congratulations to Donna Jones for winning 3rd. place, in the Commercial catagory, at the Canyonlands Tour. Donna is one of our most active members. President s Message I want to thank the Newlin s and Faraudo s for another great BBQ and tour, as always they have put on another spectacular event. Wow the summer is going by fast.

On our last day we will be riding the steam train to Virginia City. This is Cindy and my first over-nighter to plan, so hopefully everything goes well.

3 President s Message I want to thank the Newlin s and Faraudo s for another great BBQ and tour, as always they have put on another spectacular event. Wow the summer is going by fast. It s almost time for our annual overnight tour. We currently have 19 cars and 38 people signed up for the event. We have some great touring planned and tours of gold mine and RR museums. On our last day we will be riding the steam train to Virginia City. This is Cindy and my first over-nighter to plan, so hopefully everything goes well. We had Chris and Joan to mentor us along the way so we should have everything in place. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Carson City. We will hold a brief monthly meeting on Thursday evening by the pool with some refreshments.... Steve Ed s Notes Charlie Ruelle was kind enough to send me this article from the Reminisce section of The Ukiah Daily Journal dated July 28, I believe this was Charlie s aunt....ginny Molly Foster is shown at the wheel of the Sky Chief Ford from W.L. Brown s Texaco Certified Service, ready to race against drivers from all along the Pacific Coast in July ( See 1939 Dispatch Democrat story about the event below. (You may need a magnifying glass to read the story below, but it is worth it.) 3

The subjects will be ignition timing and basic auto electric. 5 Redwood Empire Model T Club General Meeting -August 1st, Meeting held at Round Table Pizza, Marlow Rd., S.R. President Steve Vining called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Attendance: 26 members in attendance. Secretary s Report: July meeting minutes were read. Minutes were approved by Andy Clary and seconded by Richard Chuck. Treasurer s Report: Treasurer s report was read by Ted and it was approved by Vince G and seconded by Steve Cavalli. Tour Report: Andy reported he has no new information regarding tours other than he plans to do a Shop Day in September. Let Andy know of any topics you want. August 24 Newlin and Faraudo Tour. There is a flyer in the newsletter. Begins at 9:00 and tour begins at 9:45. Tour is approximately miles. September 4-8 Overnighter Tour in Carson City per Chris, there is 1 room left at Gold Dust West that has not been reserved. They will hold until midnight tonight, then room will be released. Also, the picnic on Thursday will be provided by the hotel with box lunches. You have a choice of ham or turkey if no selection is made, you will get turkey. Money for tour is due to Ted by Aug. 10. A club members, while only about one-third are from Model T club. In the future, we will need to be cautious on the expenses. Of course, next year the Model A club will be the host. The Sonoma A Club sent a thank you card which was read at the meeting. New Business: Montgomery Village photos are available if you want one just let Andy know. Website: Slight change on website made if you have a name for your car, it was added. Meeting adjourned at 7:31 pm. Thank you to Dianna Shimkowski for bringing the dessert. She is doing ok. Feel free to send her a card or give her a call. The club will send out a card to her. Editor s Report: 46 newsletters were mailed out per Ginny, it is about half are online and half are mailed out. Historian Report: Nothing to report Membership: New member signed up at the Montgomery Village event Thomas Thomas. He does not own a Model T car yet Special Events: No news on any special events. Old Business: Ginny mentioned the August 22 car show event which includes a BBQ. Flyer to be sent. Anyone can just show up. Regarding the Friendship Tour it is quite expensive to put this event on two-thirds of the attendees are Sonoma 5

The Fowl & Bridges Tour You couldn t ask for better tour hosts than the Faraudos and the Newlin s. Fran and Con open their beautiful country Victorian home in Fulton.

Bill Newlin is such a good tour leader. He makes sure that all his Model T s are accounted for and on the road. Bridges were the by-word of the day.

Bill brought us all safely back to Faraudos for fabulous barbecued chicken, and wonderful pot luck dishes, followed by apple pie and brownies.

Someone actually guessed within 2 kernels. Not to be outdone, Bill had us estimate the miles between two of the bridges. Again, I believe someone guessed within a few tenths of a mile.

Ted Shimkowski asked if anyone would like to see the model train setup he has been working on with a few others for several years. Didn t have to ask twice.

7 The Fowl & Bridges Tour You couldn t ask for better tour hosts than the Faraudos and the Newlin s. Fran and Con open their beautiful country Victorian home in Fulton. Breakfast treats were ready and the gin fizzes and hot coffee welcomed us to the start of the day. We were to tour West County with a stop at Russian River pub for a beer or drink of your choice. Bill Newlin is such a good tour leader. He makes sure that all his Model T s are accounted for and on the road. Bridges were the by-word of the day. The Hacienda bridge, Highway 116 bridge out of Guerneville, Odd Fellows park bridge. The summer bridge all crossing the river, the Wholer bridge, which is always my favorite. Bill brought us all safely back to Faraudos for fabulous barbecued chicken, and wonderful pot luck dishes, followed by apple pie and brownies. Fern Newlin couldn t let the day go by without a guessing game(she loves em). Have you ever wondered how many kernels are on a cob of corn. Well, we now know there was 603 on the cob that Fern held. We spent a lovely afternoon sitting at tables under the lattice and chatting with friends. Ted Shimkowski asked if anyone would like to see the model train setup he has been working on with a few others for several years. Didn t have to ask twice. Most all of us walked across the street to a beautiful huge layout of HO trains and the quality of Ted s work was evident. A huge layout with many trains and landscaping all built to scale. Awesome in detail, and really a treat to see. Thanks, Ted for sharing your love of the train hobby with us. It capped off a lovely day and we all went home with thoughts of great food, super hosts, and the added treat of the trains. Thanks to Chris Rich for driving trouble truck even though it wasn t needed, its nice to know it is there. 7
