A charrette is an intensive, collaborative process that brings together students, community members and professionals to develop innovative solutions for complex issues. Over a few short days of brainstorming, discussion and expert consultation, teams create a broad range of ideas around a central theme

3 Participants Each interdisciplinary team will include students from: Beuth Hochschule für Technik, Berlin, Germany Copenhagen School of Design and Technology, Copenhagen, Denmark Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Eindhoven, Holland George Brown College, Toronto, Canada IADE Creative University, Lisbon, Portugal London South Bank University, United Kingdom OTIS College, Los Angeles, USA Politecnico di Milano, Italy TheI of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Senac, Sao Paolo, Brazil Working on the Charrette: Each team of students will be led by 1 or 2 KEA students and consist of about 8 students from media, communication, product design, web & software development, building construction, architecture, urban design and concept development. Each team of students will be allocated a group of advisors that will typically consist of visiting faculty members, KEA faculty members and external advisors. At the end of the week, the teams will present their results to a jury.

4 Participation Fee The workshop fee is EUR 390 and will be charged through your school unless there is a special arrangement. This includes participation in the workshop, accommodation, meals and materials, as well as public transport in central Copenhagen during the week. The fee for attending the Charrette includes staying at Danhostel Copenhagen from Saturday October 6 to Saturday October 13. Meals include breakfast, lunch and a light meal in the afternoon. Flights: The students will need to pay for their own flights. Additional costs: The students should count on having some expenses for additional transport and snacks outside the workshop hours. Refreshments Food and refreshments at the Charrette is included in your workshop fee. Breakfast: Breakfast will be served at your accommodation every morning from 7:30 Lunch: Lunch will be served every day at the Charrette location. Afternoon: Sandwiches and light refreshments will be provided at the end of each day. This will give an opportunity for everyone to have a bite to eat and finish off the day s discussions. Sunday: Lunch will be served at the social event on Sunday. Friday: After the final presentations, there will be an informal reception where KEA staff, external advisors and charrette students can relax and enjoy light refreshments. After the reception we hope to be able to gather everyone for an afterparty in a location close by KEA. Tea and Coffee: There will be access to tea and coffee at the Charrette location every day (and evening)

5 SCHEDULE The Charrette is an intensive workshop. This means that you will spend a lot of your time in Copenhagen working on the Charrette project. Because the project is about Copenhagen you will experience some of the city during the week, but if you have specific places/events you want to explore during your stay in Denmark, we recommend that you book one or two extra days for these activities. Students are required to participate in the daily activities that take place from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to Besides that it is up to you and your team to arrange if you will be working in the evenings as well. Most teams work in the evening, but also take time to socialise by having dinner and coffee together throughout the week. We also recommend that students participate in the welcome event that takes place Sunday October 7. Before you arrive in Copenhagen you will be sent some information about the theme and recommended readings. Please take a little time to complete these. It allows us to spend more time on the brief and inspirational speakers and less time on defining terms and background.

6 Accommodation The students will be staying in one of the biggest hostels in Copenhagen: Danhostel Copenhagen City. You will share a room and bathroom with 3 other students, and have access to Wifi, laundry and breakfast every morning. The rooms will be either all male or all female. The hostel is located very close to the central station. It will take you about 20 minutes with public transport to reach the Charrette location. Andersens Boulevard 50, 1553 Copenhagen V Booking Extra Nights The fee for attending the Charette includes staying at Danhostel Copenhagen from Saturday October 7 to Saturday October 14. If you would like to stay longer at Danhostel Copenhagen, you can contact them by to rec@cphhostel.dk or phone Please inform them of the Charette reservation number, when booking the extra nights Reservation number: You will have to pay for the extra nights yourselves, but the staff at Danhostel will see, if it is possible to have you stay in the same room throughout your stay.
