1 Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club P.O. Box 1064, Rogers, Arkansas Corvette Times October, 2013 Newsletter Editors: Linda and Gordon Slothower Newsletter deadline: Pictures, articles, items for sale must be to the editor by noon on Wednesday after the monthly meeting. President John Bakker Vice-President Jeff Hunter Club Officers Secretary Nancy Layton Treasurer Joanna Peak President s Corner ~ John Bakker Well, its hard to believe we are forecast to have a hard freeze tonight. Like my friend Mike Riley, I am NEVER ready for a hard freeze. I have already had enough winter. It s time to go back to spring. Oh well, I guess instead we will just have to enjoy the beautiful fall we are having. We had a good meeting this month with a good turn out. Some of you will be contacted by our vice president, Jeff Hunter about running for office. Nominations for officers will take place at our next meeting and will be choosing our 2014 charities. I want to thank the folks at Hawg Country Corvettes for a wonderful cook out in Eureka Springs. There were about 60 people there and a good time was had by all. Randy Imbeau, Jeff Hunter and Jack Lovin all did a fantastic job on the grill. The smoked meats were just this side of heaven. I am already looking forward to next year s cookout and if you missed it please try to come next year. The people at the Eureka Springs show had a good time in spite of the rain on Saturday. Last year we had cold and sleet, this year heavy rains. Hopefully next year will be nice. There were three C-7 s at the show and one of our club members took delivery last Wednesday of his beautiful green one. Next month Jon Simmonds is going to try to bring one to the meeting and to give us a talk about the new Sting Ray. He just returned form Spring Mountain to learn about the C-7 and is really pumped about it. I want to thank Richard Peak for going and talking to the new General Manager at Fayetteville Auto Park. They are on board to help sponsor our car show again next year which is very good news for us. I talked to him last week and they would like for us to do a show and shine sometime in the near future. Here s hoping you get out soon in your wonderful Vette and enjoy the fall weather. Have a good month and I will hopefully see you on November 4th. John
2 Next Club Meeting: Our next regular meeting will be November 4, :00 p.m. at Western Sizzlin 3492 West Sunset Avenue in Springdale The Christmas Party will take the place of our regular December meeting Christmas Party! The Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club Christmas Party Saturday, December 14 Springdale Holiday Inn Cash bar opens at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will begin at 6:30 followed by a Dirty Santa Gift Exchange. Bring a gift valued at around $20 per person to participate. If you want a room at the hotel, we get a special rate of $69. We will also have the Presidential Suite for an after-party. The club will pay for member meals. However, if you sign up but don t attend, you will need to reimburse the club $30 per person. Election of officers will occur at a short business meeting. We hope you will all be able to join us. Car Show 2014 Save the date for the 2014 Summer s End Car Show, August 22 and 23, Nominated Charities The following charities were nominated to benefit from the 2014 car show: Compassion House which provides a home, education, and care for young mothers. Located in Elm Springs, they have room for about 12 to stay at the house, but they also help many others. Nominated by Mark Baker. Chase Family Foundation helps a number of individuals and groups including the humane society, shelters, Meals on Wheels, and many others. Nominated by John Bakker. Police Athletic League (PAL) was organized by the Benton County Sherriff s Office as a community crime prevention program. The group is trying to raise funds to build an after-school shelter. Nominated by Gwen Adams. The club will vote to select two charities at the November 4 meeting. Lead a Cruise! If you would like to lead a cruise, let President John know. Several members of our club will help organize the cruise if you would like. Perhaps a drive to see the beautiful fall colors... Or a cruise to your favorite area restaurant... Or other areas of interest.
3 Watch the fascinating assembly process of America s favorite sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette, on a one mile walking tour. Witness an engineering marvel as the chassis and body come together in marriage and brand new Corvettes roll off the assembly line. Tour cost is $7 per person. All tourists must comply with the plant s dress code and restrictions on personal property (i.e., cell phones, cameras, purses, etc.). To ensure a reservation we highly recommend booking your tours online through our online booking system. There will also be a kiosk available to process credit cards for walk-in customers. Private Tours and Public Tours must be booked at least 9 days in advance. If you weren t able to make a reservation in time, walk-ins are allowed based on availability. Please arrive minutes in advance of the desired tour time to get one of the available openings. Checks are not accepted for tours! We are a handicapped accessible facility. Tour groups are formed in the order upon which tourists arrive, whether pre-paying or walking-in. Days & Times: In 2013, Public Tours are available Monday thru Friday at 8:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 2:00 PM Central Time. In 2014, Public Tours will be available Monday thru Friday, 8:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 1:00 PM Central Time. Please arrive early. Tours will start promptly at their scheduled time or before, depending on large crowds. We will accommodate all guests. Tours are taken out in groups of people, so if you are one of the last groups to go out you may have an extended wait time. You will view a brief safety video and listen to an introduction about the plant before you take the tour. You will then embark on a casual one hour, one mile walking tour of the assembly area. Due to employee breaks and production issues, the assembly line may not always be running. Keep up-to-date on the status of plant tours by checking com/. Tours are closed on most major holidays and internal business matters can cause cancellation of tours. It is best to them at support@bowlinggreenassemblyplant.com. If your schedule is already booked you will be notified of cancellations. (Borrowed from Bowling Green Assembly Plant web site)
