New Brunswick All Terrain Vehicle Federation 1925 Hanwell Road, Unit C Hanwell, NB E3C 1M Fax: nbatving@nb.aibn.com Federation News May 30 Jacques Poirier (General Manager) and Daniel Boucher (President) met with MLAs from the Conservative party to discuss the Tourism development of ATV in New Brunswick. This meeting was essential to create a partnership with the government and to acquire additional funding. May 31 Jacques and Daniel met at the University of Moncton (Shippagan Campus) with representatives of Véloroute de la Péninsule Acadienne (Acadian Peninsula Cycling Trail), NB Trail Council, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Healthy living, to get an update on Véloroute s plans for a cycling trail and an ATV trail in the Acadian Peninsula. They now have the support of the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Healthy living to develop a trail system for all users in that area. June 1 Jacques Poirier, Kirk C. MacDonald (DNR), and Kyle Good (Trail Manager for the Snowmobile Federation) inspected some trails from Bertrand to Grande-Anse to find possible options to separate the trails as requested by DNR. June 9 The Doaktown ATV Club held an event to perform work on the trails. DNR staff inspected the trail from Weaver Siding to Astle. The Federation should receive the official authorization shortly to open the trail legitimately. June 12 Ben Cyr (Trail Coordinator), accompanied by Kirk C. MacDonald (DNR), Steven Steeves (Albert County Trail Blazers Inc.), Alonzo Leger (Dobson Trail), and Paul Jorgenson (NB Trail Council), visited Albert County to settle trail conflicts between the Dobson Trail and the trails of Albert County Trail Blazers Inc. June 13 The Working Group met to discuss issues which need to be dealt with under the provincial trail strategy. June 2 Jacques and Daniel met with the June 14 Jacques and Daniel, in partnerminister of Natural Resources, and representatives from the Snowmobile Federation, and NB Trails Council to discuss the Trail Groups future goals concerning the development of the provincial trail system, and their objectives for the tourism product they want to develop and offer residents of the province and tourists. They also discussed the issues they are facing such as gaining legal access, conflicts with ship with WorkSafe NB, attended an event organized by WorkSafe NB to raise awareness of children of grades 4 and 5, from the local schools of the North Western part of the province, about ATV safety and responsibility. Over 400 kids participated in the event. 4 I am proud to announce that the delivery of the ATV safety training courses has begun in New Brunswick. Several sessions have already been held in the province and we have received registrations for upcoming courses. In all, 130 persons have expressed an interest in attending the courses. Since these people are between the ages of 6 and 72, it goes without saying that safety courses are not just for young people. In fact, most of the candidates are adults between the ages of 30 and 45. It is safe to say that this Chief Instructor s Message positive change is attributable to responsible parents. The recent accidents involving ATVs certainly gives a number of people a pause for reflection. ATV safety starts with the individual and then to those who accompany us or share trails with us. Our Federation will soon be launching its ATV safety awareness campaign entitled: Get your gear. Get trained. Get riding. The campaign is aimed at New Brunswick ATV dealers and will consist in radio ads. Daniel Boucher, Chief Instructor Canadian AQCC Safety Institute New Brunswick ATV Federation As President of our Federation, I am proud to see so many volunteers work very hard to develop our recreational activity. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities including the Federation sponsored major event organized by the Route 101 ATV Club. I can attest to the fact that the members of that club spared no effort to host this memorable event. I wish to congratulate and thank those who contributed to the success of this very hospitable and superbly well-run event. I also had the pleasure of accompanying Paul Colford, one of our Regional Directors, on an appreciation and information ride to witness all the work that has been completed on the trail between the Rural Community of Upper Miramichi and Doaktown. This trip gave me an opportunity to see the economic potential that this new trail has locally and in particular as it relates to the development of a tourism product based on the best features of the region. It should be noted that this trail was developed as a result of the support of the communities in the area which is indicative of the change in the mindset of the users, the elected officials and the trail managers. Positive changes such as these will set the stage for a climate of trail building for the future. There is no doubt that the efforts of hundreds of volunteers working together in the province will lead to success! In closing, we are working very hard to complete a number of projects including the regional trail maps, the trail sign manual, the construction of numerous trails and the trail access fees. The time has come for our government to realize the economic potential of our activity. In our dealings with all levels of government, we asked to be treated the same way as the other trail user groups that they support. New Brunswick has missed out on great revenue sources because our government have been reluctant to act or I should say a number of individuals have been determined to halt the progress of our activity. We ask our leaders to make a collaborative effort to help us move forward together. To this end, we must have clear answers to our questions, we must have a proactive partner and the Government must make its position clear in order that progress may be achieved. It is clear to me that we are soon heading into a provincial election and not much has been accomplished in terms of the development of ATVing in the province. On behalf of the NBATVF, I ask our Government leaders to accompany us on the road to progress. Daniel Boucher, President, New Brunswick ATV Federation Thank you CF Moto!! I wish to thank the CFMOTO team, which have lent me one of their side-by-side vehicles for the 2012 summer season. Thanks to the whole team and the owners of the business. So far, I had the opportunity to use the vehicle during several events such as the summer major event sponsored by the Federation and hosted by the Route 101 ATV Club, during the exploration run in appreciation of the work performed on the trails of Doaktown, and several other runs. Mechanically, the machine seems to be running great, despite the fact that it is 600 cc cylinders. She runs pleasantly on the trails. Astonishing fact, many people have expressed interest in the vehicle, CFMOTO is still at its beginnings in the market, and has a while to go to acquire recognition of from users. Many were intrigued when seeing the machine. With quality products designed for the needs of users, they will have charmed many ATV enthusiasts. Well, I must leave on this note, as I have to go on several runs, but I will be back next month to deliver more comments on the vehicle, and the way it manoeuvres on the trails.
