I just got back from the Hudson Car Show at the Railroad Pass Hotel last weekend, but up next up is the annual AMC Regional Show in Phoenix hosted by the Cactus Cruisers. It is slated for April 9th. A flyer is in this newsletter. Make your room reservations soon if you re going. Spring Fling 30 is April 23 & 24 at the usual Woodley Park in Van Nuys. Sunday is the day SoCalAMX members attend because that day trophies are awarded. I ve already signed up online for the May 14 th Edelbrock Car Show in Torrance. Last year we had five cars, let s get a few more for this year. Dennis Allen who works at Edelbrock has promised us AMC Class trophies if we get 15 AMC entries to commit. Then on May 21 our own club will once again be hosting the West Coast All AMC Car Show at the same site as the past two years. This year for Friday s event there will be a tour of the Planes of Fame Air Museum at nearby Chino Airport. I hope you like airplanes! This tour starts at 2pm and ends at 5pm when the museum closes. Cost is $11, $10 for senior Citizens. Afterwards if you re hungry and want to stick around there s Flo s Café on the airport premises. My dad flew his Cessna 140 here in the 1960 s for breakfast. If it s been here that long, and the locals go there for dinner you know it must be good! Check out socalcarculture.com for listings of shows in SoCal! 1

2 M.A.T.O. This year s Midnight at the Oasis Car Show was my second time at the show in Yuma, AZ. It s a pretty cool show, attended by over 500 cars. The attendance swells to the thousands when the Friday and Saturday night concerts start after the car show ends each day. It is a huge organizational feat to pull off this show. There s a lot going on with cars, concerts, and vendors. The local law enforcement entities are on hand to direct traffic come concert time, and on hand throughout the day to make sure everything stays sane. The site where this all happens is the Ray Kroc Baseball Complex, the former home of the San Diego Padres spring training camp. There are four baseball fields back to back to back to back, and all the cars park on the grass of the infields and outfields. There is a system in place so you can reserve your parking place in advance so you know where you ll park and can come and go as you desire and return to your exact spot. The event feeds all car show entrants once a day with great all you can eat meals. First day was chicken for lunch, tri-tip for dinner on Saturday, and Sunday brunch was sausage and eggs and more. The cost to sign up is $80, but remember you get three meals for two people, 2 nightly concerts for 2 people, plus one t- shirt. All in all a good deal. So this year I left home for Yuma around 4am and arrived at the baseball complex shortly before 11am. I parked my trailer out in the far corner, unloaded my car and parked it under my roll out sun shade on the side of the trailer. After a little cleaning I sat down and enjoyed a cold water and watched the lot fill up. there are thousands of people parked on the sides of the road waving and yelling and taking pictures. After we returned and parked our cars on the grass we headed over to the civic center building where the all you can eat chicken dinner was being divvied up. Saturday I arrived early and parked on the grass and was later joined by Randy and Cindy Kirby and their nephew Scott, Dale Crum and Denise, and his parents, and Erik and Rachel with their Cuda. He also owns a SC/ Rambler and Rebel which we hope to see soon. Saturday was spent walking around taking pictures of all the beautiful cars, partaking of the Saturday all you can eat tri-tip lunch, and the attending the free concert which included Billy Joel and Elvis Presley tribute bands. Last year I left for home early Sunday but this year I stuck around for the all you can eat breakfast. During the chow down they announced the winner of a Mustang that had been raffled off and put the microphone up to the cell phone so we could hear the excited voice of the winner that they called right then and there. On the way home the winds were blowing so hard that it looked like a rain storm on the horizon over the Imperial Valley, but it was really dust storms. I made it through the windy fury and was home and parked by 6pm and even made it to work that night by 10pm. Another great show. Looking forward to next year. Mark Melvin Randy arrived around 4pm and together we drove our cars over to the large parking area nearby which was a staging area for the car parade. We were last to the lot so we were the very last to pull in line on the parade route. It s about a 5 mile route around the block, and 2

Hudson Show Interesting cars, and great people were the Hudson Car show last weekend at the Railroad Pass Hotel in Henderson, Nevada.

cc/hudson16 The weekend started on Friday with a quick tour of Rick s Restorations, a restoration shop near downtown Las Vegas.

The day ended with a barb-q at a local park, a different location than the one used for the November AMC Reunion Shows. Saturday morning no one was in a rush to get outside to the show.

The weather had been extremely windy Friday night still at 10pm. I had to walk backwards from the parking lot to the hotel to keep sand from blowing into my eyes.

4 Hudson Show Interesting cars, and great people were the Hudson Car show last weekend at the Railroad Pass Hotel in Henderson, Nevada. AMC and orphan cars were invited so Steve Fox and I attended the show with our AMCs. Sorry, quick is an overstatement of the time of the actual tour quick but interesting sums it up. However it did give us the excuse to get out of the hotel for a few hours and stretch our legs. The day ended with a barb-q at a local park, a different location than the one used for the November AMC Reunion Shows. Saturday morning no one was in a rush to get outside to the show. All of the cars were parked overnight more or less in the spots they would be in for the show. After a quick dust off the show was on. I didn t count cars but there were a total of about 30. The weather had been extremely windy Friday night still at 10pm. I had to walk backwards from the parking lot to the hotel to keep sand from blowing into my eyes. The tops of the palm trees were swaying back and forth at least 5 feet. Miraculously the winds died down by dawn and were nothing more than a gentle breeze all day. There was a banquet that night for the show s entrants. I signed up in advance for prime rib and was delightfully surprised by the large cut on my plate. This show was a trophy free zone, so no hardware for anyone. Just the honor of displaying one s car with many other classy show go ers! The Hudson folks really know how to put on a shin dig! 5 2016 SoCalAMX s West Coast All AMC Car Show The 2016 show is only 2 months away. Arrangements have been made to host our show on May 21 at the same location as the past 2 years, the parking lot next to Pegasus Hobbies in Montclair. As in the past the show entry form is available online at carshow, and also in this newsletter. Please sign up on a timely schedule. The details.. Friday Instead of a bar-b-q at Dave & Kati s home, I am planning a tour of the Chino Air Museum in nearby Chino. This is the airport where the Planes of Fame organization is based out of, and where they hold their annual Air Show. The tour plan is to meet at the museum at 2pm, giving us a three hour window to tour the facilities. They close at 5pm. Afterwards there is Flo s Café on site for dinner if you choose. The address is 7000 Merrill Ave., #17, Chino, CA The cost is $11, $10 for seniors, or $9.90 with an AAA card. Saturday For the early birds and the out of towners there s breakfast at local Upland Airport at Maniac Mike s Café. The address is 1749 W. 13th St., Upland, California Meet at 8am. The 10th annual SoCalAMX Car Show starts at 10am in the parking lot of 911 Design, next door to Pegasus Hobbies in Montclair. The address is 5505 Moreno St, Montclair, CA. Bring your car and chairs. Pizza and cold drinks for everyone will be provided at no cost. Restrooms are next door at the Hobby Shop. A DJ will be on hand to play music. Top 10 and Best of Show trophies will be awarded around 3pm after the raffle drawing. Afterwards anyone and everyone is welcome to join the group up the street at The Hat for burgers and fries. The address is 857 N. Central Ave., Upland, CA The trophies and t-shirts are being readied. I hope you have already planned on coming to the show on Saturday, May 21. Vegas 2016 Update No more AMC Shows in Las Vegas. At the Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino that is! Yes, the next AMC Reunion in Las Vegas will take place at the newly remodeled Hoover Dam Lodge Hotel.

They have decided to remove the hill/upper parking lot that has been used for the past 8 years or so for the AMC Car Show and turn the area into a truck/fueling stop.

6 Vegas 2016 Update No more AMC Shows in Las Vegas. At the Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino that is! Yes, the next AMC Reunion in Las Vegas will take place at the newly remodeled Hoover Dam Lodge Hotel. For the long time ago attendees of the first Las Vegas Show in 2006, you will remember this place as the Hacienda Hotel, the one with the frequent helicopter rides nearby? A few pictures from 2006, the 1st annual Las Vegas AMC Reunion, at the now Hoover Dam Lodge The reason for this change? Well a new super highway is being built right in front of the old Railroad Pass Hotel and they will lose a lot of their current traffic from the ole Boulder Highway. They have decided to remove the hill/upper parking lot that has been used for the past 8 years or so for the AMC Car Show and turn the area into a truck/fueling stop. The Hoover Dam Lodge is only 5 miles further down the road from the Railroad Pass Hotel in Boulder City. Last weekend while at the Hudson Show I joined a group of AMC ers from the Nevada AMC Club, along with Steve Fox from our club, and we toured the newly remodeled Lodge. We were very impressed with its all new look. I personally could not believe this was the same place from 9 years ago. It was free of cigarette smoke smell, and visually looked like an all new building inside. It should be a great change of venue to continue the tradition of the annual Vegas AMC Car Show. The Nevada club has worked out the final details with the Lodge, this year s show will still be on!
