Questions? Comments? Please send an to info@wosu.org or call Our 2016 Community Report is now available and the piece truly shows the breadth of your dynamic local public media organization. Our success last year in reaching a greater audience for all our media channels was especially remarkable at a time when you have so many media choices literally at your fingertips. For example, our average annual listener growth over the past six years for 89.7 NPR News and Classical 101 is 18 percent and 12 percent, respectively. And how about this one: the average percentage growth of video views on our wosu.org website is over 140 percent. That s for every year since 2010! A major challenge in 2016 was the departure of our TV studios and production center from the COSI Science Center. We hosted debates, forums, performances, and more at WOSU@COSI a remarkable space that brought the community together. While WOSU has moved all its television studios into the OSU Fawcett Center, an exciting opportunity is on the horizon. WOSU Public Media plans, with individual and corporate support, to move its headquarters to a new building as part of the 15th & High University District. This vision may take some time, but we re thrilled with the potential it offers to expand our programming and service reach and grow our ability to engage, inform and inspire all the citizens of central Ohio. Look for more to come on the WOSU 15th & High project. We hope you enjoy surveying some of what we do to make this a better community to live and work. Thank you for your support! 11 Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin If you re a longtime public radio listener, you might recognize the name Bill McGlaughlin as the host of St. Paul Sunday, which premiered in 1980 and ran for nearly 30 years. Back in 2002, WFMT approached McGlaughlin about hosting a new program to fill the void left by the retirement of Karl Haas and his popular program Adventures in Good Music. The rest, as they say, is history. Since 2003, McGlaughlin has been hosting 5 shows every week, each week s show spun around a particular theme. McGlaughlin s introduction to music came late; he was fourteen before he took his first piano lessons. "Happily, I understood immediately what a wonderful thing I d stumbled into. I can remember thinking as I walked away from my second piano lesson Well, that s it. I ll be a musician. Of course, I had no idea what that decision meant, exactly." Over the years, McGlaughlin was to discover that "being a musician" could embrace a great many paths. He has served as an educator, a performer, a composer, and a conductor. Most people know him best, however, as a genial and knowledgeable host and interviewer one who asks the questions listeners themselves might ask. And one who shares each day his unmistakable passion for the music he has committed his life to. Beginning March 6, listeners to WOSU s Classical 101 can hear Exploring Music every weeknight at 6pm. March also brings us encore broadcasts of last year s popular series Musica Cubana with hosts Orlay Alonso and Christopher Purdy. Hear it Sundays at 1pm.
