Questions? Comments? Please send an to info@wosu.org or call Strengthening Our Social Fabric As we go to print with this edition of Airfare, we have learned of the sexual harassment charges against Charlie Rose and accusation of inappropriate behavior regarding Garrison Keillor. These profoundly disappointing situations come as NPR fired two of its chief news directors following sexual harassment allegations. This issue has brought down a popular NBC news personality, actors, politicians and a long-time conductor of the Metropolitan Opera. In some of the situations, there were years of harassment of women sanctioned by an internal culture of tolerance. Our WOSU staff is taking this issue very seriously and though Ohio State has a clear sexual harassment policy, we ve mandated every staff member s involvement in an educational session, including group discussions about this complex issue. Over half of the WOSU leadership team and staff are women. We re proud of the culture we ve built, which includes respect for all who work here and all who we serve in this community. Yet, it s time to reinforce our values of encouragement, support, and collaboration while providing a vital forum to engage you in discussions about this disturbing issue. Our local news team at 89.7 NPR News has produced multiple stories on this issue: All Sides with Ann Fisher focused on workplace harassment with national experts on the topic; reporter Adora Namigadde covered Ohio State's #MeToo initiative to fight sexual assault on campus; and Jo Ingles from our Statehouse News Bureau reported on the toxic culture there after three state lawmakers resigned due to inappropriate behavior. We will continue both our introspection and our public programming about this issue. Thank you for being part of our support team and we promise to continue working to strengthen the social fabric of central Ohio. Best Regards, Tom Rieland, General Manager 2 For detailed listings, visit wosu.org

10 Political Preview: 2018 Promises to Top 2017 As 2017 comes to an eventful close, let s not look back, but forward to the likely big stories we ll cover on 89.7 NPR News, wosu.org and WOSU TV s Columbus on the Record. President Donald J. Trump: He ll make news daily. Hourly. Ohio Governor s Race: Here in Ohio, the big political story will be the election of a new governor. John Kasich cannot run again, and there are some eight major party candidates looking to replace him. On the Republican side, the May primary shapes up to be a fight between establishment candidates Mike DeWine and self-proclaimed anti-establishment and pro-trump candidates Mayor Taylor and Jim Renacci. The Democratic primary fight looks more open. Richard Cordray has the biggest name and state-wide resume, but he got a late start against Connie Pillich, Joe Schiavoni, Betty Sutton and Nan Whaley. US Senate Race: In a rematch of their 2012 battle, US Senator Sherrod Brown and Treasurer Josh Mandel likely will compete for votes this year. Mandel enthusiastically embraces the policies and style of President Trump while Brown trumpets a pro-labor, populist message. If Brown wins, look for his name among possible 2020 presidential candidates. Congressional Races: Thanks to gerrymandering, the districts still favor one party or the other but the resignation of Rep. Pat Tiberi and the unpopularity of President Trump could make the contests a little more interesting than in the past. Gerrymandering Reform Efforts: Speaking of gerrymandered districts, we can expect major moves in the effort to make congressional districts more competitive. The US Supreme Court will rule on a key gerrymandering case in Wisconsin. At the same time, a coalition of good government groups continues to collect signatures to put a congressional gerrymandering reform amendment on the fall ballot. Voters in 2015 overwhelmingly approved a similar measure for state legislative districts. It will be interesting to see how sitting reps view gerrymandering reform as they now enjoy safe seats likely will be even more eventful than 2017 stay tuned to and logged on to WOSU Public Media for thoughtful, comprehensive coverage NPR News schedule 5am 6am 7am 8am 9am 10am 11am 12pm 1pm 2pm 3pm 4pm 5pm 6pm 7pm 8pm 9pm 10pm + Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Morning Edition BBC NewsHour All Sides with Ann Fisher Fresh Air Travel w/ Rick Steves All Sides Weekend BBC World Service Columbus on the Record Marketplace Weekend Weekend Edition Wait Wait Don t Tell Me!
