WOSU also won first place for best spot news coverage for its coverage of the OSU attack earned first place nods for best investigative reporting, best use of sound and best digital presence. Reporting Awards Show the Depth and Breadth of 89.7 NPR News Coverage Awards season has wrapped up and 89.7 NPR News once again showed its stuff as the top radio newsroom in Ohio. The Ohio Associated Press Media Editors granted WOSU first place awards in every reporting category and named 89.7 NPR News the Best Radio News Operation in Ohio (tied with WKSU). The AP named The Ohio chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists also heaped praise on WOSU s work in Ohio SPJ recognized WOSU s coverage of the OSU attack with first place for spot news reporting. Esther Honig won four SPJ awards first place nods for enterprise and medical reporting; second place recognitions for minority issues and criminal justice reporting. Morning Edition host Debbie Holmes picked up a second place award for criminal justice reporting. Ohio SPJ gave a second place award to digital editor Gabe Rosenberg for headline writing. 11 Opera and More features Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio Fall Features It s hard to believe it s September already, but the same month that brings us Labor Day and back-to-school also brings us some special programs on Classical 101. Saturdays at 1pm Celebrate the local music scene when Opera and More features a recent performance from Opera Columbus. On September 2, it s Mozart s comic opera The Abduction from the Seraglio with the Columbus Symphony and the Opera Columbus Chorus featuring soloists Myles Mykannen, Carla Huhtanen, John Shuffle and David Baghat. Sundays from 6am -10am The return of fall inspired Sunday Baroque host Suzanne Bona, as well. On Labor Day weekend, Sunday Baroque will feature musicians who had both good and not-sogood bosses! Then, it s back to school! On September 10, music by respected music teachers, mentors and role models. Speaking of back-to-school, many Columbus City School students will be sporting new instruments this fall, thanks to WOSU listeners and viewers. We are still tallying donations, but it looks like our first instrument drive, Replay!, received more than 250 instruments from 170 donors.
