2 Parking Parking is not available at the Mess. Please park at Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. West. The parking garage can be entered from Laurier or Elgin Streets. Accommodations We recommend arriving the day before your training begins. NOTE that May 2-4 is the first weekend of Ottawa s world-renown Tulip festival so get your accommodations early. Transportation For bus transit information visit Directions: The Junior Ranks Mess is between Lisgar High School, the Drill Hall on Laurier, Ottawa City Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Driveway. Please note that although the address is listed as 4 Queen Elizabeth Driveway, map quest is off by a few blocks. There is no parking at the Junior Ranks Mess. The closest parking garage is in Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. The directions below are to that parking garage. If you are coming from out of town, we recommend that you stay at a local hotel and walk to the training. We are about 4 hours drive from Burlington Vermont, 4 1/2 hours from Toronto, 2 hours from Montreal, 7 hours from Boston, 8 to 10 hours from Ann Arbor, and 8 hours from New York City. The closest airport is Ottawa International Airport. From Ottawa International Airport (approx. 20 minutes, 7 miles, 15 km.): Take the Ottawa Airport Parkway to the end. Follow the signs to Colonel By Drive (right off Bronson, then left onto Bronson Place), then right onto Colonel By Turn left onto Hawthorne Ave to cross the Pretoria Bridge Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn right onto Queen Elizabeth Dr. Turn left to take the RR-48 ramp onto Laurier Ave. W. Immediately turn left into the parking Garage at the city hall. From Toronto (and points west of Ottawa) Highway 401 East to the 416 exit Take Highway 416 North to Highway 417 exit Highway 417 East to Nicholas Street (Exit 118 toward Aut-5 Hull) Turn left onto Laurier Ave. Cross the Rideau Canal and turn left into the parking Garage at the city hall. 4 Car Rentals Airport Rental Cars - Flights, Hotels, Rental Cars or Visitor and Local Information Ottawa is the capital of Canada and has a population of about 900,000 and has all the amenities of a multi-cultural metropolitan area with a small town flavor. For general information, go to May 2-4 is the first weekend of Ottawa s world-renown tulip festival. For more information go to Environmental Information The average temperature at the beginning of May in Ottawa is between 4 and 15 degrees Celsius or 39 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit. There may be some chance of precipitation at this time in Ottawa, so keep raingear and an umbrella handy. It's a good idea to bring thick pants and a medium-weight jacket to wear over sweaters or long-sleeved shirts. Footwear should cover the foot and, if possible, be water repellent. Snacks and Dining Teas and water will be provided, but meals are on your own. There are plenty of varied dining spots within a short distance of the training. For the vegetarian, a 10-minute drive will take you to a local favorite: The Green Door at Main Street. A complete dining guide with directions will be available on the first day of the training. Clothing Expect warm days and cool mornings and evenings. Bring layers of clothing and clothing that will allow you to move, stretch and breathe easily during the workshop.
