PHOTO EXHIBIT The Trinity River Vision Authority is the organization responsible for the implementation of the Trinity River Vision (TRV) - a master plan for the Trinity River in Fort Worth. The TRV s primary focus is to provide needed flood protection but it will also connect every neighborhood in the city to the river corridor with new recreational amenities, improve infrastructure, provide environmental enhancements and manage event programming. The Trinity River Vision Authority is comprised of the Tarrant Regional Water District, City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County and Streams & Valleys; with strong cooperation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Texas Department of Transportation. The Trinity River Vision will: Create Panther Island, a vibrant new urban waterfront neighborhood north of downtown Expand Gateway Park into one of the largest urbanprogrammed parks in the nation Enhance the river corridor with over 90 user-requested projects along the Trinity Trails Program public spaces including Panther Island Pavilion, a waterfront music venue and festival space directly adjacent to downtown Fort Worth. Thanks to $17.4 million awarded to the Trinity River Vision project from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, necessary flood risk management basins in Gateway Park West and Riverside Park will be underway soon. Scheduled to begin this summer, the work is part of the Panther Island Project which includes a new Trinity River promenade, flood risk management infrastructure and improvements to Gateway Park. In addition, thanks to a $5 million grant secured by the City of Fort Worth, improvements are also coming to Gateway Park East. 4 gateway park east gateway park WEST Construction is underway with new improvements right around the corner! By the end of this year Gateway Park East will have upgraded paved trails, five new pedestrian bridges, two scenic river overlooks, and a trailhead which will include parking, picnic tables, benches and a restroom. A children s learning area is also proposed for the north deck of the overlook. It will include several hands-on fun learning components about the nature within Gateway Park and along the Trinity River. Flood protection and recreation enhancements starting this summer Thanks to funds awarded to the project by USACE, work in Gateway Park West begins this summer. This work will achieve two important goals: providing additional flood protection for the entire area and making way for future recreational enhancements such as soccer fields and trailhead amenities. MODERN ROUNDABOUT COMING SOON The new modern roundabout at the relocated intersection of Henderson and White Settlement will be open soon! The roundabout will feature public art by world renown artist, Ned Kahn. In addition to adding a beautiful new art piece, the roundabout will also cut the average traffic delay time per vehicle in half, handle 20% more traffic than a traditional intersection, provide a safer roadway by reducing traffic speed by 30% and create a positive environment for vertical development. NORTH MAIN DETOUR COMING SOON The new North Main Street Bridge will soon be underway and to alleviate traffic congestion, a reroute will be in place along North Main. This means construction can progress fullspeed-ahead while traffic continues to move through the area with ease. As part of the Panther Island Project, crews worked hard for the past two years to clean up the area to make way for construction. We have hauled out over 15,000 dump truck loads worth of contaminated material adjacent to our river and our water supply. These environmental sites are now up to residential standards!

FORT WORTH FINDING ITS WAY BACK HOME This winter TRVA hosted an art exhibit at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center honoring the members of our community who have embraced the Trinity River and all that it has to offer our city. The exhibit featured photographs by Brian Luenser and Gordon Henry, plus a gallery of community-submitted images that were voted on throughout the duration of the exhibit. The photograph titled Riding The Trails On A Rental by Randy Gilbert won the community award. Fort Worth was founded along the Trinity River because of the vitality the river provided. However, as time passed the community turned its back to the river. In recent years, the Trinity River has experienced a resurrection in Fort Worth as the community has awoken to all that the river can provide. This shift in perception would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of a select group of organizations. The evolution was made possible by TRWD s contribution to the Trinity Trails system and their water quality initiatives, City of Fort Worth s connectivity through neighborhoods and Streams & Valleys, Inc. s incredible community advocacy. The My City. My Trinity. exhibit was a great example of how Fort Worth has come to embrace the Trinity River as a wonderful asset for our community.

TRWD s Fall Trinity Trash Bash, which has taken place for 23 years, is so successful, TRWD is introducing a second bash for spring, The TRWD Spring Trinity Trash Bash! Groups, families and individuals can volunteer to clean up trash along the Trinity River. Just choose a location, register, and come on May 30 th ready to work and have some good clean fun! When the trash is all bashed, volunteers are treated to an after party with free food, door prizes, tubing and more at Panther Island Pavilion and a second party at the Cobb Park location. Are you tired of seeing the trashy mess that ends up in the Trinity after a big rain? Us too! That s why TRWD is excited to introduce a new initiative aimed at keeping our waterways clean by stopping litter at its source. TRWD, with cooperation from the City of Fort Worth, have rolled out a new Adopt-a-Drain program which allows you to choose a storm drain to adopt. TRWD will then install a plaque like the one above with your group s name or a personal, custom message at all the drain locations you adopt. The TRWD Trinity Trails Geocaching Adventure is a high-tech treasure hunt that takes you on a journey throughout the entire trail system to discover 30 hidden gems, historically significant sites and some of the most popular spots along the trails. 9 ULI NEXT BIG IDEA award Panther Island wins at the Urban Land Institute Impact Awards The Panther Island project was honored as the best Next Big Idea at the Urban Land Institute North Texas (ULI NT) Impact Awards in Dallas. For this award, ULI NT sought innovative ideas with the most potential to positively impact the quality of life in the North Texas region. Three finalists for this award were selected in advance and were invited to present their ideas on stage in front of the audience at the award event. Trinity River Vision Authority Executive Director, J.D. Granger, presented the vision for the future of 800 acres directly adjacent to downtown Fort Worth known as Panther Island. The audience members then voted electronically, and selected Panther Island as the winner at the award event. Panther Island was the only Fort Worth project to receive an award at the Dallas event.
