Called a piano-troublemaker of the highest order in her native country, she has been quietly, steadily winning fans with her trademark mix of folk and classical influences, which threads through, in her own words, all sorts of genres from different times. With two ethereal, hypnotic albums behind her (2010 s Philharmonics and last year s Aventine), Obel is tracing an upward trajectory one headed straight for the stars. 4

5 The Poem/The Song November 7 8, 2014 / Harbourfront Centre Theatre, Harbourfront Centre Music inspired by the poem and poetry placed in a variety of contrasting musical settings. Performances include Margaret Atwood reading her poetry accompanied by a new musical suite, Thom Allison singing from the famous musical inspired by T. S. Eliot, Andrew Burashko performing Liszt based on Petrarch s Sonnets, Gregory Hoskins and the jazz standard, I Thought About You paired with August Kleinzahler s poetic homage George Crumb s Apparition inspired by Walt Whitman s poetry and sung by soprano Carla Huhtonen, and the ultimate marriage of poetry and music: the work of Leonard Cohen. VISUAL ARTS The Power Plant Tuesday Sunday 10 a.m. 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. 8 a.m. & Holiday Mondays The Power Plant is Canada s leading public gallery devoted exclusively to the art of our time. This prominent, non-collecting exhibition facility is on par with the finest international institutions, featuring new work by today s best contemporary artists. Shelagh Keeley: Notes on Obsolescence September 20, 2014 January 4, 2014 / The Power Plant, Harbourfront Centre The Power Plant is pleased to present a commissioned project by Toronto-based artist Shelagh Keely. In the late 1970s, Keeley began employing drawing as both a response to and exploration of Conceptual Art where the gesture of her hand and physicality of her body were integral to her mark making. For her installation at The Power Plant, Keeley will create a new wall drawing that will envelop the clerestory walls. 5
