2 Biography (in brief) Registrar Lance Haslewood I was born on 22 nd July 1949 to Leslie and Alexa Haslewood. My father was born in Bournemouth, UK, and mother in Mount Morgan, Queensland. Dad was a WWII veteran and later a morse code specialist and examiner, and postmaster for Postmaster Generals Department; Australia Post as it is known today. I live at Delaneys Creek, which is near Woodford, and married to Karen (1974). Have two children; Rick (37) and Nardia (39). Rick is a RAAF Flight Sergeant (avionics technician / C17A loadmaster) at Amberley, while Nardia works in warehousing at Caloundra. Karen is a medical secretary (radiography) for several major hospitals and clinics along the eastern seaboard. Karen works from home. I have a twin sister, Lyne9e, and a younger sister, Julie. I was educated at the Caboolture Primary and Secondary Schools, and on leaving school in 1965, and while wai<ng enter the ADF, I worked for a short <me at Woodford Motors Caboolture and later at Murrumba Star Caravans, Morayfield. Most of my working life was spent in the ADF (RAAF) where I progressed through the ranks, re<ring a senior officer in Probably the highlights of my RAAF career were my flying days, first with 9 Squadron, Amberley, as an Iroquois crewman opera<ng in tac<cal, gunship, search and rescue and MEDEVAC roles along with those in support of RAAF, Army, Navy and state police opera<ons. From helicopters I went onto C130E Hercules and later, Boeing 707s as a loadmaster at RAAF Richmond, NSW. My RAAF flying took me to all corners of the globe, and the Boeing fleet, although used primarily in long-haul, strategic roles, were oeen converted to VIP and used to convey Australian and foreign dignitaries. Most memorable and notable were two royal tours which I was involved in; the first in 1982 when I went to England to convey the Queen and Prince Philip to Brisbane for the Commonwealth Games. It was on this tour that I also had the pleasure of bumping into the then Bri<sh Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, and her husband Denis. in 1983, I again went to England, this <me to convey Prince Charles, Diana and young Prince William to Australia for their royal tour. On this this occasion, I had the pleasure of being invited, along with the aircrae captain who was also the squadron commanding officer, to Buckingham Palace for a light lunch and to meet the royals and their entourage prior to depar<ng England for Australia. I also conveyed Prime Minister Bob Hawke on his first overseas tour which included New Guinea, Indonesia and Europe. Hazel accompanied him. As a commissioned officer I served in many varied roles all of which were challenging, rewarding and fulfilling. On re<rement, I was in a senior staff posi<on in HQADF, Canberra. Post-RAAF, I was a logis<cs manager for a cosme<cs company in Sydney, then for a short <me contracted to Australian Defence Industries where I was involved in wri<ng computer-based ground training modules for C130J Hercules aircrew. It was when this contract ended (2001) that I decided to re<re altogether. At this point, Karen and I had spent over 28 years living interstate, so we decided to sell our Bligh Park (NSW) home and return to our home state of Queensland. My interests are varied. I was a keen motorcyclist for over 45 years. I hold a commercial pilot licence and an aeroba<c endorsement amongst others. Other interests are my 1976 SL/R 5000 Torana and my 1982 DMC- 12 DeLorean, both of which I have owned for many years. I belong to several car clubs including the Caboolture Regional Car Club and the Queensland and NSW Torana Clubs, amongst others. Con<nued on Page 3
3 Con<nued from Page 2 Caravanning wise, Karen and I bought out first van in 2008 which was a 15E Empress Gem. A great li9le entrylevel caravan. In 2015 we decided to upgrade to a larger one and chose a new Lotus Freelander. Our tug is a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Don t Hold Back! AEer buying the Jeep and the Lotus, we couldn t afford to buy a bigger boat! Because of our like for caravanning, we joined the Queensland Caravan Club (QCC) in 2010 and remain in this club to this day. A great club full of great people, Fellowship On Wheels as its mo9o recites. I am currently on the QCC commi9ee as editor. Looking back on my life, I don t think I would have done things any differently; maybe with the odd excep<on here and there. Lance Haslewood. A progressive card game, just need to bring along a pen or pencil. Times for both of these events will be in the proposed program in the next issue Peter O Brien & team will be entertaining you throughout the Rally, His web site is State Rally Committee President : Col Roles Peninsula Ph: Secretary: Elaine Sutherland Peninsula Ph: Treasurer: Don Stevens Bayside Ph: Editor: Deirdre Mulder Bayside redlumd@tpg.com.au Registrar: Lance Haslewood Queensland lanceh49@bigpond.com
