1 ATTACHMENT 3 City Centre Area Plan PUBLIC ONLINE SURVEY #1 - FINDINGS Background As part of the City Centre Area Plan update Phase 1 consultation strategy, a public online survey was conducted from February 22 to March 12, The results from the survey, which received 1356 responses, are presented below. The purpose of the survey was threefold: 1. To understand City Centre s role and how people currently spend time here; 2. To understand how people value City Centre and what they identify as its greatest strengths; and 3. To garner ideas about opportunities for the future of City Centre (i.e., things to improve, a vision for the future). (check all that apply) Total participants: % Other future qualities mentioned include car-free/lite, diversity-friendly and accessible to those with mobility, visual and hearing impairments. Final Comments - Highlights Q: Do you have any other thoughts or ideas about City Centre that you want to add? Total participants: 467 My husband and I moved to this area October 2017 even though we were initially hesitant to look in Coquitlam. We choose the Town Centre Area, because we were so impressed with the natural beauty of the area and how family friendly it appears to be. We are looking forward to raising our children in this area of Coquitlam. While density and affordable housing is important, I hope that neighbourhood can maintain a good balance and mix of housing. With increased densification comes overcrowding. I hope city centre can maintain its suburban charm. I would like to see more cafes and restaurants that are local and not a part of any chain. I think that part is lacking in feeling personal and styled to cater the Coquitlam lifestyle. Traffic flow needs to be improved. It's very common to get stuck behind successive red lights. Also there always seems to be missed opportunities to better configure right and left turn lanes to improve traffic flow whenever there is repaving done. Recent example is Lansdowne and Guildford. More lighting along major pedestrian routes to skytrain stations. More public transit. More green spaces. Less cars. 6
