12 THE DISTRICT 2020 STORY Expo 2020 Dubai is a celebration of human progress. The first World Expo in history to be hosted in the MEASA region, Expo 2020 will attract and encourage around 180 nations and millions of visitors to connect with one another to help create a better future. Following the six-month World Expo, the Expo 2020 Dubai site designed and built to push the boundaries of architecture, smart technology and sustainability will continue to fulfil its vision of connecting minds by flourishing as District District 2020 will become the home, workplace and retreat for those who thrive by connecting with others, living in a centre of human innovation. 15 ABOUT DISTRICT 2020 The Expo 2020 Dubai site spans more than two million square metres. Over 80 percent of its built environment will be retained for District 2020, which will eventually expand into a city covering more than four million square metres. District 2020 has been carefully planned to support the UAE s future vision by supporting sustainable economic development, moving towards an innovation-driven economy and creating a business environment that directly encourages progress within key growth industries. At the heart of District 2020 lie several neighbourhoods that will be home to offices, collaborative workspaces, residential communities, social and cultural attractions, parks and a host of business and leisure amenities.
