3 Chairman s Message to the NSW Rural Fire Service to help with community education and to raise community awareness towards the danger of bushfire. Our Annual Dinner on 19 October 2013 was a great success and was attended by over 350 guests including dignitaries from both Federal and State Parliaments, Local Government Councillors, various Community organisations, media friends, our Patrons, Trustees and Members. It is an honour and privilege to be elected as the Chairman of the Australian Chinese Charity Foundation Inc. (ACCF) for the year 2013 to Since the formation of ACCF in 1990 by our Founding Chair Dr Peter Wong AM, we have had a total of only six Chairmen ahead of me including some outstanding Chinese Community leaders such as Mr King Fong OAM, Mr Robert Ho OAM, Mr OaiTrieu, Mr Benjamin Chow AO and the immediate past Chair Mr Hudson Chen KHS OAM. It is indeed some big shoes for me to step into. It has been a busy year for the Foundation in Back in April, Sichuan was hit with a major earthquake and we launched a Sichuan Earthquake Appeal in partnership with Sing Tao Newspaper and TVB Australia. A total of $151,519 was raised in a matter of weeks (This included donations of $15,199 made directly to World Vision Australia). The highlight of the appeal was a major fundraising dinner at the Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant in Haymarket. Funds raised were given to World Vision Australia to provide direct disaster relief on site. About a week before our Annual Dinner in October, New South Wales was hit by raging bushfire affecting the Blue Mountain community and most of the rural areas in the State. We took the opportunity of the Annual Dinner to launch the NSW Bushfire Appeal, and again in partnership with the Chinese Media, a total of over $ was raised. The money was eventually given We had also inducted two new Trustees - Dr Victor Tsang and Miss Ruby Teng, both were respectively former life member and ordinary member of ACCF. It was nice to see our members to take a further step in their commitment to ACCF. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Victor Tsang (Annual Dinner Event Chairman) and his team in making the 2013 Annual Dinner a huge success. Special thanks to Miss Ruby Teng (YACCF Chairman) and her Young ACCF members who always work tirelessly at all ACCF functions as venue volunteers. Our Annual Dinner is also an occasion for the Foundation to announce successful applicants for Community Project Funding. This year we had 19 successful applicants and we had distributed a total of $63,449 (please refer to the Fund & Grant Assessment Sub-Committee report for details). I must acknowledge the dedication of Dr Michael Tse and his team including Mrs Eveline Chen, Mrs Maude Chin, Ms Cherie Kam, Ms Stella Fan, Miss Ruby Teng, Mr Dennis Loughhead and Ms Symone Bates in the assessment of Community Project Funding to many community organisations and emergency assistance to many individuals who are needy and in distress. On 1 February 2014, we welcome the Year of the Horse at the annual ACCF & NSW Chinese Community New Year Celebration Dinner at Marigold Restaurant with lots of fun festivities. It was again well attended by over 360 guests and friends. We were overwhelmed by the support we received from our political leaders and the Consulate-General of the People s Republic of China in Sydney. In particular, the Prime Minister, the Hon. Tony Annual Report
