Mr Duncan PESCOD said that it had been a busy and productive year since he took up the post of Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ) in August The WKCD project had moved firmly forward in terms of construction, programming and audience development, including: (a) the commencement of the construction of the M+ Museum main works, the Art Park, the lifting of the Xiqu Centre main theatre structure, the completion of the M+ Pavilion and the commencement of the foundation works of the Lyric Theatre Complex and Artist Square; (b) programmes and audience building initiatives such as M+ Matters, M+ Rover, New Works Forum, Producers Network Meeting and Forum, the Rising Stars of Cantonese Opera, Freespace Happening series, and M+ Sigg Collection Exhibition; and (c) the approval of the WKCD (Public Open Spaces) Bylaw in the Legislative Council. 3. Mr Duncan PESCOD went on to report on the recent progress made by the West Kowloon Cultural District ( / ) on various fronts:- Page 3

4 (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) Construction Activities: the construction works of Xiqu Centre, M+ Main Works, and the Art Park had continued to move forward at a good pace; Lyric Theatre Complex: the foundation works were moving forward. was reviewing the design submitted by the consultant to ensure that the project could be delivered to the budget; Safety: held its third Safety Performance Award Presentation Ceremony in August 2016 to compliment individuals and contractors for their commitment to high standards of safety management; M+ Pavilion: a simple dedication ceremony was held to mark the opening of the M+ Pavilion. The first exhibition Tsang Kin-Wah: Nothing would open on 9 September 2016 and run to 6 November 2016; M+ Pilot Membership Scheme M+ Pioneers: the scheme was launched to coincide with the opening of the M+ Pavilion and offered supporters a chance to get closer to M+ and enjoy benefits like members-only previews, private tours and events; M+ Rover: the first major school outreach programme organised by M+ running from March to July 2016 had been successfully concluded. M+ Rover reached nearly students and members of the public through 43 school visits and 13 community sessions; (g) M+ Summer Camp 2016: 100 students in Secondary 4 to 6 joined the artistic adventure including workshops, music and dance performances and sharing sessions. The camp was originally scheduled from 31 July to 3 August 2016 but was cut short on the second day due to the typhoon. A make-up day camp was organised on 28 August 2016 to complete the remaining workshops and carry on the dialogue; (h) Freespace Happening: a new season of great music, dance, workshops and handicraft markets would return to the Nursery Park on 11 September 2016; Page 4

5 (i) (j) Rising Stars of Cantonese Opera II: a cast of 14 emerging actors presented three full-length Cantonese Opera productions from 12 to 17 August 2016 at Ko Shan Theatre New Wing; and Xiqu Exchange Tour to Shanghai: following the signing of an agreement with the Shanghai Center of Chinese Operas in July, a delegation led by visited Shanghai to promote collaboration on Xiqu between the two cities. The delegation comprised representatives from, local Cantonese Opera community, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Home Affairs Bureau. 4. The Chairman remarked that despite the progress made in the past year, many people were still unaware of the WKCD. She cited a recent letter written to the South China Morning Post by an organisation alleging that (the) still dragging its feet over cultural green park, to which the CEO had promptly responded. She was puzzled by the allegation and the misunderstanding. She appealed to Members to help promote the WKCD both as a brand and a project to make it more visible. She also encouraged Members to join some of the events, including the monthly Freespace Happening together with their families, friends, and even pets. 5. Mr Duncan PESCOD informed Members that he would be on a radio interview at RTHK later this week as part of an ongoing exercise to raise public awareness about the WKCD development. 6. The Chairman said that this was the last meeting of the present Board. A new Board would be appointed by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in October She thanked Members for their contribution over the last two years and looked forward to their continuous support to the WKCD project.
