Go to the nearest embassy or consulate and apply for a visa Once you have received the visa invitation letter, take it with the other documents required by the Chinese authorities to your nearest Chinese embassy, consulate or visa office, where you will be provided with a visa application form. Alternatively, you can download it ahead of time from the Chinese embassy, consulate or visa office s website. Please note that the World Economic Forum is not responsible for providing visas. Visa Deadline The deadline set by the Tianjin Municipal Government to issue the visa invitation letter is 21 June After this date, we will not be able to support your request. Application process Please make sure that your passport (and, if relevant, that of your spouse) is valid for at least six months after the meeting, i.e. early January 2017 onwards. If not, you must renew your passport as soon as possible. If you indicated on the registration form that you need a visa, please note the following: 1. Wait for your visa invitation letter from the Tianjin Municipal Government The Tianjin Municipal Government will send you a visa invitation letter by . 6 Security The Government of the People s Republic of China will provide full state-level security at the Tianjin International Airport, Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center, and the official hotels. Participants entering the security zone of the meeting venue must have a badge. For questions related to security, please contact: Security Affairs World Economic Forum security@weforum.org Air travel Participants should make their own flight arrangements. Tianjin Binhai International Airport Tianjin can be reached by frequent and short flight connections from most major airports in Asia, including Shanghai, Hong Kong SAR, Seoul and Nagoya. The airport is 30 kilometres from downtown Tianjin and the transfer time to the official hotels is about 50, depending on traffic. A complimentary shuttle service will be available from the airport to the official hotels on arrival, and from the official hotels to both airports on departure. (see Airport transfer below) Beijing Capital International Airport Tianjin is 150 kilometres from Beijing Capital International Airport and the transfer time to Tianjin is about two and a half hours, depending on traffic. The 117-kilometre line was built to accommodate trains with a maximum speed of 350kmh (217 mph) and high-speed trains on the line reach a top speed of 330 kmh (205mph). When the line opened on 1 August 2008, it had the fastest conventional train service in the world and reduced travel time between the two cities from 70 to 30. Approximately four trains leave every hour from Beijing South to Tianjin and Tianjin to Beijing South. A one-way fare costs between RMB ( ; $9- $15). Chauffeur-driven limousine rental The Tianjin Municipal Government will provide a chauffeurdriven rental limousine service. The World Economic Forum is not liable for any booking, changes and/or cancellations. Taxis Taxis are not expensive by international standards. If you plan to take a taxi and do not speak Chinese, show the driver the address of your destination in Chinese. Language and interpretation The official language of the meeting is English. Selected sessions may include interpretation into Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. Please refer to the session descriptions in the programme. Interpreter service A limited number of interpreters (English-Mandarin Chinese and Mandarin Chinese-English) are available in the Village to facilitate bilateral meetings in the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center. Interpreters can be booked at the information desk in the Village on a first-come, first-served basis for a maximum of one hour. We recommend that you make the reservation at least two hours in advance of your appointment. Spouses Spouses have access to all sessions. They are also invited to the Cultural Soirée and the Farewell Reception. If your spouse will participate in the meeting, please indicate it on the registration form or NewChampions@ weforum.org so a security badge can be prepared. You can set up a Forum Events app account for your spouse prior to the meeting (see the section above) or your spouse can log in on site with the support of Technology Desk staff or through the Kiosks. Tianjin industry tours The Tianjin Municipal Government has organized local industry tours for participants and spouses. A detailed programme will be available on TopLink at a later stage. 10 Table for Two Eat for one. Feed two. And help the world eat better. In our world of 7 billion, 795 million suffer from undernutrition, while another 2 billion suffer from obesity. Table for Two aims to right this imbalance. During the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2016, look out for the Table for Two logo and know that, when you eat a balanced Table for Two meal, another meal will be provided to a child in East Africa, South-East Asia or the Middle East. 11 Participant Facilities Participants Networking Space The Annual Meeting of the New Champions provides many opportunities to meet other participants, including business, political, intellectual and civil society leaders. 12 Public Engagement Media representatives The World Economic Forum hosts two types of media representatives: Media Leaders include editors-in-chief, senior editorial decision-makers and columnists of international or regional media organizations. They have full participant status and wear badges marked Media. They have active roles in sessions as experts, but are expected to abide by the off-the-record nature of some sessions. Reporting press includes reporters, foreign correspondents, news agency journalists and broadcast journalists. They have access to the official sessions that are on the record. 13 Practical Information About Tianjin Tianjin is a coastal city in northern China and the country s third-largest urban area after Shanghai and Beijing. Tianjin is 100 kilometres from Beijing and can be reached by high-speed train in 35. Frequent and short flights connect it to most major airports in Asia. Tianjin s pillar industries include aviation and aerospace, petrochemicals, equipment manufacturing, electronic information, bio-pharmaceuticals, and alternative energy and materials. It has a large concentration of high-tech industries. Dress code A business suit or smart casual wear is appropriate throughout the meeting and for the Cultural Soirée. No formal attire is required. Time zone Tianjin is eight hours ahead of GMT/UTC. Electricity 220V, 50Hz Lithium batteries According to the Specifications for Air Transport of Dangerous Goods Carried by Passengers or Crew, the rated energy of lithium batteries that are taken onto an airplane either in hand luggage or consigned luggage should not exceed 160wh. Air passengers carrying electronic applications with lithium batteries and spare batteries should pay attention to the following: Electronic products that contain lithium batteries, such as watches, calculators, cameras, mobile phones, portable computers and DVs, can be taken as hand luggage and consigned in the checked luggage. The rated energy of the batteries should not exceed 100wh; for those between 100wh and 160wh, the passenger must get the permission of the air company. The electric appliances should be carefully kept to prevent any unexpected start-up. Spare batteries can only be carried as hand luggage and should be well preserved to avoid a short-circuit. The rated energy of each battery should not exceed 100wh. For batteries between 100wh and 160wh, the passenger must get the permission of the air company; each passenger is allowed to take up to two spare batteries. Temperature The temperature in June is 25.1 C (77.2 F) on average, but can range from 20.6 C (69.1 F) to 30.3 C (86.5 F).
