13 EMPLOYMENT Foreign Employment Hessen is very internakonal and provides both Germans and foreigners excellent employment prospects. Since the year 2010, employment rates have witnessed dynamic growth. The number of people employed has risen by about seven percent, with German nakonals seeing a five percent increase and foreign worker numbers rising by around 31 percent. Currently, twelve percent of those employed are of foreign nakonality an above average figure in comparison to the whole of Germany. 14 EMPLOYMENT Dual Training in MINT Professions in Hessen Dual vocakonal training is the central pillar of the economy in Hessen and corresponds to Hessen s need for skilled workers. Around 40,000 young people begin this training in vocakonal schools and businesses annually. MINT sector professions (mathemakcs, computer science, natural science and technology) are a significant area of the dual training. In 2014, a total of 35,900 people were trained in the MINT sector in Hessen. That is a third of all trainees. Mechatronics engineers, plant mechanics, electronics technicians, IT specialists, and warehouse logiskcs specialists are examples of dual training professions. In Hessen, these professions are currently in high demand in the automokve industry, the logiskcs and engineering sectors as well as in the metal and electrical industries. 17 HESSEN INTERNATIONAL The Most Important Export Goods Chemicals and pharmaceukcals dominate the export; products for the automokve industry are the second largest product group exported Chemical and pharmaceukcal products are by far the top exports in Hessen. Encompassing a total volume of 18.5 billion euros in 2014, they were ranked as the most important exported goods. This is 32 percent of Hessen s export volume for the year Following in the ranks are products by the automokve manufacturing and mechanical engineering industries as well as the electrical engineering industry. At the same Kme, these goods make up the most significant group of imported products. Valuing 11.2 billion euros, electrical products comprise the largest porkon of the import volume, closely followed by auto-mokve products worth 11.0 billion euros. 18 HESSEN INTERNATIONAL The Most Important Trade Partners Export: The USA is Hessen s most important trade partner two thirds of all exports are to European countries In 2014, 12.3 percent of all Hessian exports were deskned for the USA. Next in the ranks are the United Kingdom and France, each having a share of 8.1 percent, followed by the Netherlands with 5.7 percent. In addikon to the USA, China is another non-eu country belonging to the Top-10 export nakons, amassing a total export volume of 2.8 billion euros. Most of Hessen's exported goods went to countries within Europe, accounkng for 65.4 percent of the shares. America is the second most important export market with a share of 16 percent, closely followed by Asia with 15.8 percent. Among Asian countries, China is the most important customer for Hessian exports with a share of 4.7 percent. 19 HESSEN INTERNATIONAL The Most Important Trade Partners Import: Hessen s most commonly imported goods are from the USA and China Similar to the export sector, the USA takes the leading posikon for Hessian imports. The import volume from the USA totaled 8.2 billion euros, accounkng for 10.2 percent of Hessen s total import shares. China occupies the second posikon with a volume of 7.4 billion euros and a share of 9.2 percent. With a share of 62.6 percent, most of the goods imported to Hessen are from countries within Europe. Differing from the export sector, the conknent of Asia places second with an import share of 22.8 percent; followed by America with a share of 12.1 percent.
