4 Adult and Continuing Education Foothills Adult & Continuing Education is a consortium of 17 school districts providing free mandated programs and fee-for-service enrichment classes for their schools and communities in a cost-effective, quality environment. FREE Mandated Classes Help Adults Further their Education: GED (General Educational Development) ABE (Adult Basic Education) HSD (High School Diploma Program) NEDP (National External Diploma Program) Online Learning Pre-GED (General Educational Development) ESL (English As A Second Language) Citizenship Classes Programs and Services Program Enhancement Grants for: Pearson Vue Testing Center Workforce Readiness - Digital Literacy GED Integrated Education & Training (CNA, Food Handler, Manufacturing) ETS Transition to Post-Secondary Education - Praxis Family Literacy Services - ParaPro National External Diploma Program Prometric Instruction for Adults with Barriers to Education SafeServ Integrated Language Acquisition, Literacy & Civics CT Foundations of Reading Customized Workplace Training In addition to the required State mandated programs offered at these sites, Foothills offers approximately 400 enrichment classes each semester. These classes cover a wide range of topic areas, including: Computer Training, Arts & Crafts, Health, Finance, Foreign Languages, Cooking, Self-Improvement and Recreation & Leisure. Certification courses are offered for Certified Nurses Aide, Reiki, and Food Handlers. Certificate classes are offered in EKG, CPR/First Aid, and CT DEEP Basic Boating/Personal Watercraft Safety. Courses are marketed in a 56-page brochure, mailed in August and January to over 80,000 homes.

8 Community Services Residential Programs: Community Living Arrangements and Continuous Residential Supports: Provides 24-hour supervision for individuals with developmental disabilities. Residential homes are located in New Hartford, Newtown, Sandy Hook and Torrington. In Home Supports: Promotes independence while providing long-lasting personalized supports. The focus is on community integration with the expectation that consumers will have something to offer the community in return. Day Services: Individual Day Supports (Vocational and non-vocational): Provides a personcentered model for day supports related to the acquisition, improvement, and retention of skills and abilities. Supported Employment (Group and Individual): Provides a person-centered model of employment supports. These supports may include skill development, needs assessment, community and work exploration, resume and interview supports, job development and placement supports, on-the-job training, and situational assessments. Senior Employment Program (Title V): A senior community employment services program, Title V, is a community and work-based training program for mature workers. It provides subsidized, part-time, community service work based training for limited-income persons aged 55 and older in order to increase employment prospects. Transportation TRED: Provides free transportation services to eligible Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) clients in northwestern Connecticut. Behavior Supports Program (BSP): The BSP Program provides adaptive daily living supports to DDS-qualified children, adolescents, and young adults, ages 8-21 years old, and their families. Our services include: advancing life and social skills, providing individualized extracurricular programming, developing and implementing behavior plans, and parent support and education.

10 Early Childhood Services Early Childhood Services works with schools, communities, and parents of young children to ensure that all children are healthy and ready for school success, Using research-based practices, we design and develop early childhood initiatives and programs that include sound principles of curriculum and assessment, teacher growth over time, active parent involvement, and positive child outcomes including social/emotional and behavioral wellness. Teacher training coupled with in-classroom coaching is one of our most successful initiatives - multiple programs and schools throughout the western CT region have seen significant positive change in teaching instruction and outcomes for children with this method. Autism and Early Intervention services for children ages birth to three: a full comprehensive evaluation followed with in-home developmental services for children and their parents - transition planning for pre-k. Pre-K - Grade 3: professional development and teacher support to improve outcomes for young children. 12 Food Services The Food Services Department understands that today s student faces many challenges, both inside and outside the classroom. A fundamental need of all children and young adults for proper growth and development is good nutrition. Food Services works collaboratively with the Connecticut State Department of Education s Office of Child Nutrition and the School Nutrition Association to improve the health and education of children by creating innovative public and private partnerships that promote nutritious and healthy habits that last a lifetime. Our Food Services staff have many years of experience in managing, operating, and implementing food service programs. 14 Head Start: Prenatal to Five Head Start: 3-5 Provides an array of quality, comprehensive services, including health, nutrition, parent support, education and mental health, to children ages three to five and their families. Our vision is each child and family leaves Head Start, healthy, eager to learn, and ready for success. Program staff work closely with families to ensure that each child has the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in kindergarten. Our goal is to lay the foundation for children and their families to be life-long learners. Head Start sites are located in Litchfield, New Milford, Plymouth, Torrington, and Winsted. We also have School Readiness programs at our Torrington and Winsted sites. Early Head Start: Prenatal to Three Provides home-based services for expectant families and children ages birth to three that meet eligibility requirements. Services include weekly home visits which focus on health, nutrition, education, social services, and parent engagement. Playgroups are held each month at the Torrington and Winsted sites.

16 School Age Programs Our School Age Programs provide a state-licensed twelve-month program for children of elementary and middle school age. On-site before and after school programs, as well as full-day Summer Adventure Programs, offer a variety of enriching and quality experiences. Customized on-site professional development and technical assistance is offered for school districts and organizations. Our programs are conveniently located in school buildings; no transportation is required. Parents have peace of mind knowing their child receives quality, affordable care. These programs are funded by parent fees and require no additional funding from school districts. Scheduled activities include: enrichment programs, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) and Literacy component, projects, physical activities, quiet time, and structured homework time. Students have some choice in planning and implementing activities in which they want to participate. Nutritious snacks are provided. We Offer: On-site before and/or after school programs for students. Enrichment courses for elementary and middle school students. Customized professional development opportunities in your district/agency. Consulting and technical assistance provided to other programs. Full day summer programs for students. Our Summer Adventure Programs are currently offered in Newtown and Torrington. Each week is devoted to a different theme. Some of the activities consist of arts & crafts, science, indoor/ outdoor sports, multicultural activities, swimming, and field trips. We Can Help Your School District: Design, implement, and evaluate local before and after school programs. Prepare a comprehensive needs assessment for your before and after school needs. 20 Special Education and Related Services Special Education Services mission is to provide cost effective, superior quality programming that meets the individualized needs of each student as well as providing support to both certified and non-certified staff to ensure that they are delivering the highest quality learning opportunities to the students they serve. ACCESS Program The ACCESS program collaborates with school districts to meet the needs of students in grades K-12 with social-emotional challenges who have difficulty receiving their education within their home school. Individual and group counseling services are provided within a structured environment where students can learn to develop problem solving skills and coping strategies in a safe, nurturing environment. Center for Children s Therapy (CCT) The CCT provides one-to-one therapy services specifically tailored to each child s needs across all stages of development. Services include Speech and Language Therapy, Occupation and Physical Therapy, and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy. Personnel Services Provides a variety of professional and related services staff to assist school districts with their students and programs. These staff include: certified and non-certified staff, related service staff, child care workers, and personal care attendants.

22 Transportation Services Our Transportation Services department specializes in transporting special needs students. We have a fleet of over 100 vehicles that we use for transportation.
