1 ANNUAL DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM REPORT Department/Program: Aviation Submit to Dean by February 16 I. Department/Program Vision, Mission, Philosophy and Description A. Vision Statement The Aviation program partners with crosswind aviation to provide the training to give pilots an education in flying that will last during their working careers. B. Mission Statement The Casper College Aviation Department will provide excellent training that meets the needs of preparing for a career as pilots. C. Philosophy 1. Teaching Philosophy & Pedagogy The main goal is to teach the how to fly an airplane. will fly on a regular basis and take classes that help them succeed as pilots. Crosswinds Aviation provides the flying experience and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards. Classes at Casper College give the aviation abilities to meet the needs of pilots during their careers. As courses in the aviation program are modified and changed, the new demands from the aviation industries will be met to prepare the graduates from this program for careers in the aviation. 2. Digital Learning Philosophy The Aviation Department supports digital learning for aviation ground schools and in general education. 3. 3 A long term partnership with Crosswind Aviation Previous Casper College graduate is operations manager for Crosswind Aviation. FAA exams are nationally accepted outcomes. C. Department Challenges Getting the flight time to acquire FAA licenses adds large expenses to student costs. Partnership with Crosswind Aviation requires constant communication. Ground and flight school classes are offered at airport. D. Department Resource Needs for Next Year 1. Facilities None needed 2. Equipment Crosswinds Aviation supports planes and maintenance needed for flying Casper College supports limited classroom equipment and laboratory equipment. 3. Program is struggling due to loss of part 141 by Crosswinds Aviation. Numbers are dropping rapidly because of cost and loss of financial aid. Numbers enrolled in program will make gathering meaning full data difficult. An advisory meeting will meet in February to strategize on FAA approval, recruiting, curriculum changes, and HLC accreditation. IV.
