JITSUHIRO YAMADA INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada, of Minokamo, Gifu, Japan, was elected to serve as president of Lions Clubs International at the association's 98th International Convention held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, June 26 through 30, President Yamada is a neurosurgeon. A member of the Minokamo Lions Club, President Yamada has been a Lion since He has held many offices in the association, including district governor and GLT constitutional area vice leader. He served on the international board from 2005 to 2007 as a member of the Executive Committee and the Long Range Planning Committee and Vice Chairperson of Convention Committee. He also served as a board appointee for In recognition of his service to the association, President Yamada has received numerous awards, including the Humanitarian Partner Award, 10 International President's Awards and an Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association bestows upon its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lion activities, President Yamada is chairperson for several organizations including the Social Medical Corporation Koseikai, the Kizawa Memorial Hospital, the Social Welfare Corporation Jikeikai, Nozominooka Hospital and Ajisai Nursing College. He is a standing director of the Japan Hospital Association and an affiliate professor at Gifu University. President Yamada has been active in the area of international relations, serving as president of the Gifu-Hungary Friendship Association, Gifu-Morocco Association and Gifu-Salzburg Association. He is a recipient of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, the Medal of Honor of the Alaouite Dynasty of the Kingdom of Morocco and an honorary citizen of Beijing City, China, in recognition of his service to international friendship building. President Yamada and his wife, Dr. Toshiko Yamada, also a Lion and a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, have one son, one daughter and three grandchildren.

4 PAUL ABBOTT DISTRICT GOVERNOR N4 Lion Paul Abbott of the Clarenville Lions Club, Newfoundland & Labrador, was born in Northwest River Labrador in Lion Paul graduated from Clarenville High School in Lion Paul grew up with Lionism as the son of the late PDG Lion Norm Abbott and the late Lion Audrey Abbott. He was elected District Governor of District N4 at the annual Lions Convention held at Gander on April 13, A member of the Clarenville Lions Club since 1980, Lion Paul has held many offices within the association. These positions have included club president, secretary, treasurer, director and Leo advisor, zone chairperson, zone secretary, regional chairperson, district youth opportunities chairperson, and cabinet secretary treasurer. Lion Paul has attended an International Convention, several Multiple District conventions, and a number of district training sessions. In addition to being a Lion, he has served on the Board of Management of Shoal Hr. United Church, Delegate to U.C. East District Conference, Treasurer of Men s service Club of Shoal Hr. United Church, Air Cadet Instructor, member of the Crime Prevention Committee and Clarenville Winter Carnival Committee. He is also a strong supporter of Arts Under the Stars and is very active with Junior Bowlers. He is a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Judge Brian Stephenson Fellow, and a Life Member of Lions Foundation of Canada Lion Paul is involved in the automotive industry for the past 36 years, currently employed with Colonial Auto Parts, Clarenville, as a customer parts clerk. Along with Lion Paul you get another lion -his partner in service Lion Janet. Lion Janet has her own distinguished career in Lionism. Janet first served as a Lioness and is now a Lion. She has served as Charter Lioness President of her club as well as Secretary & Treasurer. As a Lion she has served a club president, Leo advisor, zone chairperson, district Opportunities for Youth chair, and Leo chair, as well as Opportunities for Youth chair at the Multiple District level. Lion Janet was Train the Trainer Chair for Lioness and attended District Leadership Training and the MD Train the Trainer Program. Lion Janet is a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Judge Brian Stephenson Fellow, and a Life Member of Lions Foundation of Canada. Lions Paul and Janet received the Best Couple Award at the District level.
