1 The Preserve SEPTEMBER 2018 Newsletter of the Council of Motor Clubs The Vital Link for Motoring Clubs CMC VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION AT SYDNEY MOTORSPORT PARK PREPARING FOR THIS YEAR S SHANNONS SYDNEY CLASSIC OUR SINCERE THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO GAVE US THEIR TIME
2 President s Report Your 2018 Committee Executive Committee Terry Thompson OAM President VSWG, RSAC & Govt. Liaison / AHMF Delegate Tony De Luca Vice President & SSC Kay De Luca Treasurer & SSC Vacant Secretary General, SSC & Magazine Editor General Committee Lester Gough Membership Secretary Tony O'Donnell ACMC / Vehicle Standards & Govt. Liaison Ian Andersen Website Manager Terry Bebbington Chief Judge Evan Jones OH&S Volunteers & Appointees Lynelle Titcume Events/Tours Coordinator Well it s all over for another year. At this year s CMC Shannons Sydney Classic at SMSP and we had all records broken. I am claiming it as the biggest yearly classic car show in Australasia. Would love someone to prove me wrong. Kevin Anderson MP, the Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Roads, Maritime and Freight was in attendance and thanks to Tony O Donnell and Alan Hay we had a winner. Kevin and his 13 YO son had a great time. Kevin had an interview on the PA with John McCoy-Lancaster, a tour of the car display areas in a golf cart (but not in John s one, which looks like a 57 Chevy) and the Parliamentary Secretary left beaming with appreciation. Kevin presented the trophies and spoke highly of our movement and the passion he felt when speaking with enthusiasts at the event. A sedate ride around the track in a Leyland Force 7 coupe (look it up guys) was his highlight and he said what an honour. Another influential pollie on our side one would hope. PS: he drove himself there and back which is a good thing. No chauffeur for this country boy. We had a new category in the Shannons Concours event for CVS eligible vehicles which was won by Alan McCoy s 57 Chevy. The Minister s son said that was his favourite. Grand Champion was a 56 FJ Holden Panel Van restored to a standard that GM-H never imagined in 1956 or ever for that matter. Special thanks to all the CMC Committee and Volunteers for a mammoth effort in delivering to you a memorable day at this year s Shannons Sydney Classic. Well done guys and gals. In late September Sharon and I are off to Adelaide for the AHMF AGM and then taking a week long Murray River paddle wheeler cruise. First holiday for a year and after running this CVS since January we really need a break. Phil Cooper Social Media Liaison Bob Adby SSC Sub-committee Terry Thompson OAM CMC President Boyd Symington SSC Sub-committee Karen Symington SSC Sub-committee

7 The next CMC General Meeting will be held at the Arena Club, 140 Rookwood Rd, Yagoona on Tuesday 25th September 2018 commencing at 7.30pm. Dinner available from 5.00pm.
8 OUR CMC CLUB FLAGS VOLUNTEERS PUTTING THEM TOGETHER AT SHANNONS SYDNEY CLASSIC We have a great bunch of volunteers at Shannons Sydney Classic every year and their enthusiasm is amazing. There s a need however to put in place procedures to follow so that we don t get the flags mixed up I know we hear you say I ve done it before so I know what to do. That s how we get things mixed up and in the end we re missing four (4) flags this year. So here s how we ll do it next year the Flags come to Sydney Motorsport Park in plastic tubs Marked Area A, B, C, D and E. Inside each tub is a laminated list of flags for that Area. The flags are then put together ONE TUB AT A TIME and when all flags in that tub are finished ALL THOSE FLAGS ARE PLACED IN A DEFINED AREA and the next tub is started. We should finally have FIVE LOTS OF FLAGS they can be identified by placing the lid of each tub in front of each batch. When it s time to take the flags out to their Areas EACH GROUP MUST BE CHECKED OFF AGAINST THE LAMINATED LIST FOR THAT AREA. Please don t just grab a group of flags and take them out without checking. ON THE SUNDAY when it s time to bring in the Flags from each Area, please TAKE THE LAMINATED LIST OF FLAGS FOR A PARTICULAR AREA WITH YOU SO THAT YOU CAN CHECK THEM OFF AS YOU COLLECT THEM. They are then returned to Pit Lane Garages 47 & 48 for checking and placing into tubs. The tubs will be on tables, so that the Flags won t get dirty by falling on the floor of the garage. This year, we re missing four flags Bristol Owners Club flag was reported missing early on Sunday morning. FE-EK Holden Car Club, ROMEO Classic & Sydney Machina Social Club flags were missing at the end of the day on Sunday. These Flags are CMC property & should be returned to the CMC at the General Meeting on Tuesday 25th September Kay De Luca WE HAVE TO APOLOGISE TO THOSE CUSTOMERS WHO WAITED IN VAIN FOR THE DISABLED BUS AT THE SHANNONS CLASSIC THIS YEAR. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS A MIX-UP WITH SECURITY PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT ACCESS THE BUS WAS TO HAVE AROUND THE SYDNEY MOTORSPORT PARK. WE HOPE IT DIDN T SPOIL YOUR DAY TOO MUCH AND THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO SEE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE COMFORT OF THE BUS. APOLOGIES ALSO TO THOSE WHO MISSED OUT ON GETTING THEIR SHANNONS BAG ON ENTRY AT THE TOP GATE. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS A STOCK OF BAGS PUT ASIDE AND FORGOTTEN! WE HAVE TO FIX THAT NEXT YEAR. TO THOSE WHO DIDN T RECEIVE THEIR BAG, WE WILL HAVE SUPPLIES OF CMC MEDALLIONS AND THE CMC PRESERVE ON HAND AT THE NEXT CMC GENERAL MEETING ON TUESDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR CMC DELEGATE THAT YOU WILL NEED ONE OR BOTH OF THESE.
