3 ITINERARY DAY 01 USA/EUROPE Depart this evening on an overnight flight to Europe. DAY 02 EUROPE/KILIMANJARO/ARUSHA Connect with your flight to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Arusha is the safari capital of East Africa and is a bustling, vibrant town. This is the kind of place where you can get an idea of what modern Africa is all about. Centrally located to the northern safari circuit, Arusha National Park, Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro makes Arusha a popular stop for travelers. Rivertrees Country Inn is nestled between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, in the gardens along the Usa River. Rivertrees combines old world ambiance and African country elegance. The lodge features Garden Rooms and River Cottages, each room individually styled and uniquely furnished with its own character. Rivertrees offers excellent country cuisine, using fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables grown in the Rivertrees gardens. Enjoy quiet time in the gardens and pathways that lead to the Usa River. The pool is located near the river and surrounded by sights and sounds of nature. Visits to a neighboring village, craft market or a coffee plantation can be arranged. Accommodation: Rivertrees Country Inn (B) Standard Garden Room DAY 03 ARUSHA/LAKE MANYARA/KARATU Depart Arusha with your private guide and continue by road to Lake Manyara Park. Enjoy a game drive in the park. Lake Manyara National Park is most famed for its tree-climbing lions that may be seen (if you are very lucky) sleeping amongst the branches of acacia trees. The park is situated in the Great Rift Valley where hippos abound along with the excellent bird life as well as elephant and baboon.

4 Continue to the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for lunch. Following lunch proceed to your lodge located in the Karatu region. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Plantation Lodge is surrounded by farmland and is owner run, producing coffee and flower seeds as well as traditional corn crops. The lodge lies in an oasis of green between wheat and flower fields, and coffee plantations. There are good walking trails on the farm and along the forest edge. The lodge comprises a number of houses, all with spacious rooms. The 16 rooms in the gardens have en suite bathrooms and comfortable beds with mosquito nets. All are decorated in an understated style There is a good-sized swimming pool that overlooks the surrounding gardens. The food is superb, using vegetable and dairy produce fresh from the farm. Accommodation: Plantation Lodge (Full Board) Private vehicle and guide DAY 04 KARATU/NGORONGORO Depart early this morning to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, descending 2000 feet by four-wheel drive vehicle for a morning game drive (total viewing time allowed by National Parks is six hours). Enjoy a decadent picnic lunch on the floor of the crater. In the afternoon you will return to your lodge. A special dinner will be served to you this evening. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unflooded, intact caldera in the world. Known as the eighth wonder of the world, its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Ngorongoro Crater itself is but a small portion of the 3,200-square-mile Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a World Heritage site that is characterized by a highland plateau with volcanic mountains as well as several craters, extensive savannah and forests. Altitudes range from 4,430 to 11,800 feet. Ngorongoro Crater is about 12 miles wide and its rim rises 1,200-1,600 feet off of its expansive 102- square-mile floor. The steep descent into the crater along winding roads takes minutes from the crater rim. The crater floor is predominantly grasslands (making game easy to spot) with two swamps fed by streams, and the Lerai Forest. The walls of the crater are lightly forested. Ngorongoro contains possibly the largest permanent concentration of wildlife in Africa, with an estimated average of 30,000 large mammals. In addition, this is one of the best reserves in Africa in which to see black rhino. Large concentrations of wildlife make Ngorongoro Crater their permanent home. Game viewing is good year-round. Because there is a permanent source of fresh water, there's no reason for much of the wildlife to migrate as they must do in the Serengeti. 5 DAY 05 KARATU/LAKE MANYARA/SERENGETI Depart this morning to the Lake Manyara airstrip where you will board your scheduled charter flight to the Serengeti. On arrival you will be met by your guide and taken on a game drive to your camp. *Please Note* there is a luggage limit of 33lbs (15kg) per person on the charter flight so please pre-pack your luggage accordingly in a soft-sided bag. Scheduled Charter flights times are estimates and may include multiple stops. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language and appropriately means "endless plain." The park's 5,700 square miles makes it larger than the state of Connecticut. Altitude varies from 3,120 to 6,070 feet. As you enter the park gate you will take a game drive through the open plains. Nearly 500 species of birds and 35 species of large plains animals can be found in the Serengeti. The park may contain as many as 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, 300,000 Grant's gazelle, 250,000 Thomson's gazelle, 120,000 impala, 70,000 topi, 20,000 buffalo, 9,000 eland, 8,000 giraffe, 1,000 lion and 800 elephant. The huge herds of plains game such as wildebeest, zebra and antelope dominate the park while the attendant predators such as lion and cheetah are to be found amongst the many kopjes scattered across the plain. Leopard can often be found draped in the trees along the Seronera River. From December-May wildebeest, zebra, eland and Thomson's gazelle usually concentrate on the treeless short-grass plains in the extreme southeastern Serengeti and western Ngorongoro Conservation Area near Lake Ndutu in search of short grass, which they prefer over the longer dry-stemmed variety.

6 The rut for wildebeest is concentrated over a three-week period and generally occurs at the end of April, May or early June. After a gestation period of eight and one-half months, approximately 90% of the pregnant cows will give birth on the short-grass plains within a six-week period between the mid/end of January and February. Zebra calving season is spread out over most of the year, with a slightly higher birth rate December-March. The best time to see wildebeest and zebra crossing the Grumeti River is in June/early July and November. As a general rule, by June the migration has progressed west of Seronera. The migration then splits into three separate migrations: one west through the corridor toward permanent water and Lake Victoria and then northeast; the second due north, reaching the Maasai Mara of Kenya around mid-july; and the third northward between the other two to a region west of Lobo Lodge, where the group disperses. During July-September, the Serengeti's highest concentration of wildlife is in the extreme north. The first and second groups meet and usually begin returning to the Serengeti National Park in late October; the migration then reaches the central or southern Serengeti by December. Nasikia Naona Moru Camp is located in the central Serengeti near the famous Moru kopjes. The intimate camp features seven tented suites each with a canopy bed, sitting area, romantic lighting, en suite bathroom with dual vanities, hot water showers and flush toilet. The camp has been built on an elevated point, ideal for watching the sunsets. The main lounge area includes a bar and dining tent. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives and optional guided walking safaris. Corner Suites and Private Villas have private plunge pools and large teak decks. The lodge facilities include a restaurant, lobby lounge, bar, boma, wine cellar, art gallery and gift shop. Board your scheduled charter flight to Zanzibar (via Arusha). Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Zanzibar, known as the "Spice Island", which is only 22 miles from the mainland of Tanzania, is a beautiful island unspoiled by tourism. The narrow streets and Arabic architecture of historical Stonetown are exceptionally mystical and beautiful on a moonlit night. Main attractions include the Zanzibar Museum, Arab Fort, Sultan's Palace, clove market and the Indian bazaar. The town has a strong Arabic influence, while the beaches have simple but good hotels. Zanzibar and its sister island, Pemba, grow 75% of the world's cloves. Konokono Beach Resort is located on the southeast coast of Zanzibar and overlooks Chwaka Bay. Built on a pristine white beach the resort is ideal for those looking for quiet relaxation. Accommodations include luxurious villas with air conditioning, ceiling fan, mini-bar, wi-fi, living area, large en suite bathroom with dual vanities. Some of the villas have private plunge pools and views of the beach. Enjoy dining in the main restaurant with panoramic views of the bay. The en suite bathrooms are quite large and hot water both powered by the sun. All rooms have private verandas where you can laze in your own hammocks. Although mosquitoes are rare in Matemwe, all rooms are equipped with a large mosquito net.

Your bags will be stored in the bellman s office and you are welcome to use the resort s facilities.) This afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled charter flight to Dar Es Salaam. On arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will be met and taken to the Dar Serena for dinner, before returning to the airport for your onward flight. Depart this evening on an overnight flight to Europe. (Must present valid marriage certificate within 6 months of marriage upon check-in). Trip Report: Nasikia Tarangire Tented Camp - Msangi and the team went out of their way to make it memorable. Our first night we got settled in and had a terrific dinner. And then came the magic. The entire team and Wilson came into the dining area singing, dancing and delivering to Dessa the most magnificent birthday cake and presentation ever. This is hard for Marc - the family birthday cake maker - to admit! We will never forget this night. We absolutely loved this cultural immersion at the Maasai village. Kitela Lodge - Wow! We had just grown accustomed to the bucket shower, two flushes a night, and elephants outside our tent and here we were in the plush accommodations of Kitela Lodge. It was the perfect stop in the middle of the tented camps. Simply divine.

12 Asanja Africa - Despite being avid outdoors people who appreciate roughing it, admittedly once we had been spoiled with showers and pools and such we were reticent about returning to a camp. Asanja was perfect. Here again the people were absolutely fabulous. We settled in a bit early one day and just lounged and chatted and got to know the team a little bit more. And here again we found special appreciation for the kindness shown our daughter. A special thanks to Barik who made extra time to talk with Dessa and taught her how to play Bao. Of course we had to buy the game at the Kilimanjaro Airport and have been playing ever since. Oh - The Animals! All of the references above are about the people and such. But we went for animals. And animals we did see. As I mentioned earlier, we were able to see so much up close. Words do not do justice to describe the soul stirring impact of seeing these animals in their natural habitat. To learn more about each species. To know how they interact with each other and their environment. To understand even more fully just how much is at stake. We are so fortunate that the Tanzanians, other African countries and many in the global community are dedicating so much time, energy and resources to their preservation.
