2 SEASONAL TENTING IN TANZANIA Seasonal Mobile tenting is where unspoiled Africa exists, where the special privilege of absorbing the awesome, majestic grandeur of the African landscapes and its wildlife is still possible. From the moment you are met by your host/guide he will make you feel that you are on a real wildlife experience. The philosophy is to help you experience the bush in addition to viewing wildlife in one of Africa's top wildlife reserves. The seasonal camp moves twice a year. Approx locations: December to March the camp is situated in the southern plains. June-October it is in the northern Lobo region. You will have full camp service with your home comforts. The tents are large, with insect proof windows, comfortable single beds with fresh linens and duvets, private verandas and en suite hot water bush shower tent and flush toilet tent attached to each sleeping tent. You will be brought your morning coffee before your morning game drives. Washbasins are placed outside the tents and filled with hot water to freshen up before you begin another day of adventure. 4 DAY 01 USA/EUROPE Depart this evening on your overnight flight. ITINERARY DAY 02 EUROPE/KILIMANJARO/ARUSHA Arrive this morning. Connect on your international flight to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. On arrival this evening you will be met and transferred to your lodge. Value Option ~ Located at the foothills of Mount Meru in the city of Arusha, Tanzania, the Mount Meru Hotel lies on nine acres of lush landscape, surrounded by some of Africa s most breath-taking vistas. The hotel offers 178 rooms with individual air-conditioning, mini bar, electronic safes, satellite television, free Wi-Fi, hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities. The restaurant and lounge open out onto the terrace. There is a swimming pool to cool off in between touring. The adjacent carefully designed golf course is sure to attract bird lovers from all over. An array of birdies, eagles and even an albatross or two have been rumored to be in residence. Accommodation: Mount Meru Hotel (D,B) Executive Room OR Classic Option ~ Lake Duluti Lodge is located on the outskirts of Arusha in a secluded retreat on the shores of Lake Duluti. The lodge is the ideal place to relax before or after a safari and features 18 thatched cottages with expansive en suite bathrooms with a deep soaking tub as well as shower and floor-to-ceiling glass window from which to enjoy the view. Guests enjoy the landscaped gardens and lap pool. Delicious meals are served in the main dining room, deck area or out by the pool. The main lounge area is designed with eclectic African flair. Accommodation: Lake Duluti Lodge (D,B) DAY 03 ARUSHA/TARANGIRE-LAKE MANYARA ECO-SYSTEM After breakfast, depart by road with your guide to your tented camp situated within the Tarangire-Lake Manyara eco-system. Following lunch at your lodge, enjoy a game drive in Tarangire National Park.

5 The Tarangire-Lake Manyara eco-system is a region of dense bush as well as high grasses and old baobab trees. The land is hilly and dominated by the valley of the Tarangire River, which attracts migratory animals during the dry months between July-September. Game viewing during this time frame is quite exciting as the animals come to the river to drink. The ecosystem has a localized migration that is followed by most game (except lion which don t tend to abandon their territory). The animals disperse during April and May when there is reliable rainfall and rich vegetation. In June, the eland and oryx begin to return, followed by the elephant towards the end of the month. Zebra and wildebeest come together through July. By mid-august the animals are congregating around their last reliable water source, the Tarangire River. The calving season falls in the months of January-March taking advantage of the fresh grass during the rainy season. Value Option ~ Maramboi Tented Camp is located on the shores of Lake Manyara and in the migratory corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara ecosystem. Forty spacious tents are positioned on wooden decks, each with en suite facilities, 24 hours electric lighting and private veranda. Optional activities include guided bush walks, a visit to Lake Manyara s shore and bird watching (over 300 birds). Accommodation: Maramboi Tented Camp (Full Board) Classic Option ~ Depart from Arusha and continue to Tarangire National Park for a morning game drive and picnic lunch. Later in the day continue to your camp, located in a private concession. Tarangire River Camp is located on a private concession near the main entrance to Tarangire National Park. Twenty luxury tents offer en suite bathrooms and are tastefully furnished, and have views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Meals are served in the thatched dining room with dramatic views over the river below. Activities include game drives, guided walking and cultural visits to the local Maasai and Datoga tribes. 6 DAY 04 TARANGIRE Depart this morning with a picnic lunch and enjoy a full day game drive in Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is the third largest national park in Tanzania. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing all but the elephants feeding beneath them. During the dry season from June to November, animals concentrate along Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply. The area supports a great diversity of wildlife, including giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, oryx and zebra. Lion, leopard and cheetahs are also present in the area. Up to 6,000 elephants inhabit Tarangire in the dry season. Accommodation: Maramboi Tented Camp or Tarangire River Camp (Full Board) DAY 05 TARANGIRE/LAKE MANYARA/NGORONGORO Depart this morning with a packed picnic lunch to Lake Manyara for a game drive. Lake Manyara National Park is most famed for its tree-climbing lions that may be seen (if you are very lucky) sleeping amongst the branches of acacia trees. The park is situated in the Great Rift Valley where hippos abound along with the excellent bird life as well as elephant and baboon. This afternoon drive through Mto wa Mbu village and continue on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which was a pioneer experiment in reconciling the interests of wildlife animals and indigenous forests with the needs of the local Maasai tribe.

7 Value Option ~ Kitela Lodge is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation area and overlooks a coffee plantation. The lodge features 20 en suite rooms in thatched cottages with floor to ceiling windows and private patios. Enjoy the heated pool and spa offering a variety of treatments. Guided walks are available to guests to visit the vegetable and animal farm. Accommodation: Kitela Lodge (Full Board) OR Classic Option ~ Lemala Ngorongoro Crater Camp is a tented camp close to the rim of the Ngorongoro caldera tucked in a wooded valley. The camp features nine tents, a skilled friendly staff and is just a few minutes drive from the crater rim. Each expansive tent has an open verandah which is shaded, with canvas director's chairs and thoughtfully placed reading table. Inside, the bedroom features oversized windows allowing cool breezes and warm light to wash through, while keeping the insects outdoors. Electric light shines from a chandelier with a 220V plug for charging batteries and other devices. Immediately behind the bedroom is a change area with ceramic sink on a hand carved wooden counter with large mirror. There is a flush toilet and the camp features hot and cold running water. In the winter months, there are small heaters and thick duvet covers to keep you warm.

8 Three main meals are served each day in the large canvas dining tent, culminating with five course dinners. Picnic meals can also be prepared for your full day game drives. In the evening sit in the light of a warm fire in a semi-circle of chairs. Accommodation: Lemala Ngorongoro Crater Camp (Full Board) DAY 06 NGORONGORO This early morning depart to the Crater Rim and descend for a morning of game viewing on the crater floor. Enjoy a picnic on the crater floor. Return to your lodge late afternoon. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unflooded, intact caldera in the world. Known as the eighth wonder of the world, its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Ngorongoro Crater itself is but a small portion of the 3,200-square-mile Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a World Heritage site that is characterized by a highland plateau with volcanic mountains as well as several craters, extensive savannah and forests. Altitudes range from 4,430 to 11,800 feet. Ngorongoro Crater is about 12 miles wide and its rim rises 1,200-1,600 feet off of its expansive 102-squaremile floor. The steep descent into the crater along winding roads takes minutes from the crater rim. The crater floor is predominantly grasslands (making game easy to spot) with two swamps fed by streams, and the Lerai Forest. The walls of the crater are lightly forested. Ngorongoro contains possibly the largest permanent concentration of wildlife in Africa, with an estimated average of 30,000 large mammals. In addition, this is one of the best reserves in Africa in which to see black rhino. Large concentrations of wildlife make Ngorongoro Crater their permanent home. Game viewing is good year-round. Because there is a permanent source of fresh water, there's no reason for much of the wildlife to migrate as they must do in the Serengeti. Accommodation: Kitela Lodge or Lemala Ngorongoro Crater Camp (Full Board) DAY 07 NGORONGORO/SERENGETI or NGORONGORO/MANYARA/SERENGETI Your journey to Serengeti includes a visit to Oldupai Gorge, the famous archaeological site where the Leakey s discovered the remains of Australopithecus, Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language and appropriately means "endless plain." The park's 5,700 square miles makes it larger than the state of Connecticut. Altitude varies from 3,120 to 6,070 feet. As you enter the park gate you will take a game drive through the open plains. Nearly 500 species of birds and 35 species of large plains animals can be found in the Serengeti. The park may contain as many as 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, 300,000 Grant's gazelle, 250,000 Thomson's gazelle, 120,000 impala, 70,000 topi, 20,000 buffalo, 9,000 eland, 8,000 giraffe, 1,000 lion and 800 elephant. The huge herds of plains game such as wildebeest, zebra and antelope dominate the park while the attendant predators such as lion and cheetah are to be found amongst the many kopjes scattered across the plain. Leopard can often be found draped in the trees along the Seronera River.

9 Value Option ~ JAN-MARCH Visit a remote Maasai village before continuing to the Serengeti. JUNE-OCTOBER Transfer to the Lake Manyara airstrip for your scheduled charter flight. Your guide will join you on the flight. Upon arrival in the northern Serengeti, board a different vehicle for your time in the park. *PLEASE NOTE* There is a luggage limit of 44lbs (20kg) per person on the charter flight so please prepack your luggage accordingly in a soft-sided bag. Scheduled Charter flights times are estimates and may include multiple stops. The Serengeti Shared Explorer Camp makes use of a traditional mobile tented camp on a shared-use basis, periodically moving location within the Serengeti according to Migration game movements and weather conditions. Although the camp will NOT move during your actual stay, the chances of being within reach of the wildebeest migration, which is one of the principle goals of any visit to the Serengeti, are greatly enhanced by this mobility. Approx locations: December to March the camp is situated in the southern plains. June-October it is in the northern Lobo region. The camp features ten luxury tents each with en suite bathroom with flush toilet, dual basin and shower, solar powered lighting, and a spacious verandah with chairs to relax and enjoy the view. The focus of the camp is a large dining tent with a shaded 'sitting out' area, bar and small reference library of African books with a variety of games. In the evening gather with other guests around the campfire to enjoy a pre-dinner drink and share the day s adventures. As a guest at the Serengeti Shared Explorer Camp you will meet up and mingle with each other during the evening over pre-dinner drinks and candlelit dinners, but during the day you will set off on your own, with your own private guide and vehicle. 10 OR Classic Option ~ JAN-MAY / NOV-DEC 15 Visit a remote Maasai village before continuing to the Serengeti. Lemala Ewanjan is a deluxe seasonal camp located in the central Serengeti on the western slopes of the Makoma Hills. The camp features 10 deluxe tents each with two queen beds or one king, en suite bathrooms with flush toilets, large safari shower, 24-hour solar lighting, and an outside chaise to enjoy the spectacular view. Between game drives, enjoy meeting fellow travelers in the main lounge which includes the dining tent and central bar area with leather sofas, chandeliers and oriental rugs. The camp is open all year except April and May (due to the spring rains). Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles. An optional balloon safari is also available as the launch site is only 25 minutes away. Accommodation: Lemala Ewanjan (Full Board) JUN-OCT Transfer to the Lake Manyara airstrip where you will bid farewell to your private guide and board your scheduled charter to Serengeti. On arrival you will be met and proceed to your camp. Built in a secluded valley with fig and sausage trees and punctuated by large boulders known as kopjes, the area is ideal for witnessing the migration of the wildebeest as well as other big game. The camp features ten luxury tents that highlight the epic views and ensure privacy with a raised deck, plunge pool and indoor-outdoor shower.

11 The lounge has been erected on top of the largest of the kopjes and has private dining areas, lounge with log fires and a stunning bar with the best view of the Serengeti. The main lounge is connected to the swimming pool, spa area, and deck for barbeques and sundowners. The area is only 30 minutes from the Mara River and Lamai triangle yet completely private. Game drives, walks, bush meals, sundowners and cultural opportunities with the Kuria tribe are offered. Trip Reports: My son and I had a fabulous safari in Tanzania, due primarily to Mkenda, our wonderful guide who always seemed to have us in the right location at the right time! He was patient with our questions and seemed just as excited at what we were seeing as we were. Sometimes, we felt like we were tagging along on his safari, which is wonderful attitude for someone who has been guiding for years! We love Mkenda and he made this the trip of a lifetime. Each day we said it couldn't get much better and each day it just gets better and better! Marsha Erickson, Aug 2017 Serengeti Explorer...The facilities were quite nice, and the food and game drives were good. Again, very friendly staff, who engaged actively with the guests. Because it is a mobile camp, our Tanzania guide, Wilfred joined us for meals, and we were able to interact with him on a personal level, which we (and, we hope, he) enjoyed very much. Wilfred was very knowledgeable, and was forthcoming in sharing information Jim Kearney, Aug 2017 Serengeti Shared Explorer Camp: Very cool tented camp. We felt as though we were staying right out there with the animals! Confi and staff were amazing, he put us in a family tent so it was very spacious. Our Maasai security were so friendly and did their jobs so well. Matata and Ganini(spelling?) were a blast and we took loads of pics with them. Met a lot of people from all over the world as we sat by the fireside before dinner. Food was good Animal, animals, animals!! We saw 4 of the big 5 by Tuesday and was incredible! Then at the crater we saw the rhinos at a very far distance but we saw them! We could have safaried forever. The great migration of wildebeests and zebras was amazing as well

14 We loved the experience! We loved the trip! And seriously are thinking about the Southern safari circuit in the future! Andrea Kiernan, July 2017 We want to give major kudos to Lemala Kuria Hills and the managers, Tansi and Rich. They went above and beyond in making our stay with them special. Our accommodations here were comfortable and charming. The meals were great and the vistas from the lodge and the tents were breathtaking (especially when we did sundowners up on the rock - see attached picture). I would highly recommend this place to everyone!... We also had a great time with at the Serengeti Shared Explorer Camp - wildebeest right at the camp in the morning and a cape buffalo outside our tent one night (though the latter is probably not a good thing :). We sat around the fire at night and looked at the night sky filled with stars. It was lovely.
