3 Cape Town The City Bowl is a part of Cape Town in South Africa. It is a natural amphiteatre-shaped area bordered by Table Bay and defined by the mountains of Signal Hill, Lion s Head, Table Mountain and Devil s Peak. Cape Town City Hall (Afrikaans Kaapstad Stadsaal) is important because on February 11, 1990, only few hours after his release from prison, Nelson Mandela made his first public speech from the balcony of Cape Town City Hall.

From it served as the capital of the Orange River Colony and since that time as the provincial capital of the Orange Free State (now Free State). The term "kwela" is derived from the Zulu for "get up", though in township slang it also referred to the police vans, the "kwela-kwela". 14 Steven Biko Steve Bantu Biko( ) was a noted antiapartheid activist in South Africa in the 1960s and early 1970s. He founded the Black Consciousness Movement. He died in police custody and became a martyr of the anti-apartheid movement. With his writings and activism he attempted to empower blacks, and he was famous for his slogan "black is beautiful. The ANC was initially very hostile to Biko and to Black Consciousness but has now included Biko in the pantheon of struggle heroes, using his image for campaign posters in South Africa's first democratic elections, in 1994.

15 Nadine Gordimer Nadine Gordimer (born 20 November 1923) is a South African writer, political activist and Nobel Prize in literature laureate. Her writing are about moral and racial issues, particularly apartheid in South Africa. She was active in the anti-apartheid movement, joining the African National Congress when the organization was banned.

16 Zimbabwe John Maxwell "J.M." Coetzee (1940) is an author and academic from South Africa (now an Australian citizen living in South Australia). He studied mathematics and English at the University of Cape Town, receiving his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English in 1960 and his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Mathematics in Very important novelist and literary critic as well as a translator, Coetzee won the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature.
