2 Geography Have you ever wondered about Zambia's geography? If so, I'm here to tell you! Their climate is very tropical being between every day. But it is also very dry and wet. Zambia's weather is different everyday especially because it can be warm and dry one day and then cold and dry the next. Zambia also has many landforms such as the East African Rift. The East African Rift is thousands of miles long while slowly working the surface of the Earth. The East African Rift includes historically active but now dormant volcanoes. Another landform is the Kafue River. It plays a large role in the ecosystem. It is also the longest river in Zambia and is usually occupied by many species of animals. Kafue River is important to many species of plants and animals. This may be because the sandy banks of the river are perfect nesting sites for bee-eaters. And the sandy shores of Kafue River are often occupied by hippos, crocks, otters, and water-moniters. Kafue River plays a major tributary to the Zambezi River. It is also a major tourist attraction. And guess what, the location of Zambia is 15 degrees 24" and the latitude is 28 degrees 17"! I hope that now you know all about Zambia's geography!

3 Economy Have you ever wondered where some of your food comes from? Well some comes from Zambia because people get food for you for a living! The biggest industry is substance farmers. They farm corn, rice, sunflower seeds, coffee, sugarcane, cotton, and most vegetables. Actually agriculture is 20% of their economy. Although, Zambia's history is based on copper mining industry, in fact, copper is 64% of their exports! But there is also a small fishing industry, a mining and refining copper, and the King Cobra rattles business. They do not pay well though so Zambia is very poor. There are many reasons for this. One reason is there is fast growing population. Another reason is there is no dictator. A few more reasons are demise of copper mining and there are few good jobs in Zambia. There are a lot of tourism, too. Many tourist like to visit the historic Livingstone which is the adventure

4 capitol of Africa. They also like visiting Victoria Falls, named after Queen Victoria. Zambia is also home to the longest lake, Lake Tanganyika, and one of the top safari destinations in the world.well these are the main jobs in Zambia, maybe you want one! Government "And the new president is...," Zambia's government is very exciting. Until 1991, Zambia was a 'one party democracy' but after riots, and an attempted overthrow, there was a new constitution. Now, there are to parties and a 2 term limit on the president and the current constitution was made May 3, In the Legislative Branch is 1 house assembly. There are 150 senators elected but only 8 are appointed by the president. In the Executive Branch, the elected president serves a term of 5 years. An interesting fact is that the Vice President is elected

5 by the president. Currently, Zambia's president is President Michael Sata who started his term in This is what I've learned about Zambia's government, I hope you learned something, too. Culture Culture isn't just clothes and food, but about arts and sports and such. In Zambia religion is very important! They speak many different languages but their main one is English, can you believe it? Another popular language is Bemba and minor languages are Nyanja, Kaonde, Luvale, Lunda, Tonga, and Lozi. Zambians also love sports! In football (soccer) they even won the Cup of Nations! But, sadly the greatest football team perished in a plane crash on Apr. 28, But they also play sports like rugby,

6 boxing and, cricket. Sometimes they even get to the Olympics! And in 2011, they had the great honor of hosting the tenth All-African Games! They also like art. They do things like wood carving, basket weaving, and pottery. You also might think this is disgusting but Zambians eat meals including thick porridge, vegetables, beans, meat, and fish or SOUR milk! Well, that s all I can tell you about Zambia s culture. Hope you learned something! History Hear-yee, hear-yee! Zambia has some of the most interesting history ever! Like it has existed for at least 200,000 years ago and in 1921, a skull was found and it was the first human fossil found in Africa! The earliest modern humans were called Khonisans. The Khonisans were mainly bushman and

7 hunters who mainly collected fruits and nuts but also hunted antelope and other animals. In the 16th-19th centuries, 4 kingdoms were established: Kazembe-Lunda, Bemba, Chewa, and Lozi. Livingstone was named after David Livingstone, the first Britain to step on Zambian ground, who was an explorers. He later named Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria Falls. By the 18th century, British settlers had came in. Then, during the Independence and Cold War, Zambia received major challenges because their were few Zambians trained and/or educated capable of running for government.
