We wanted to collect all the information one would need to decide the most valuable off-roading trail that are in their state to make an educated decision and prevent any surprises. (What do you mean ATV s aren t allowed on these trails?!) We have included important information such as: A) Are permits required? B) What Climate Type? C) How Many Miles are these trails (according to their websites) D) What times of the year are they open? E) Is there a standing entry fee? If so, How much? F) What other vehicles are allowed on these trails? G) UTVs? SXS? ATVs? SUV/Jeeps? Dune Buggies? Sand Rails? 4 Beartown State Forest (Monterey, MA) ( ) Beartown State Forest has two distinctly different worlds between the summer and winter. During the warm months the pristine 35-acre Benedict Pond attracts swimmers, boaters and fishermen. An extensive network of trails on over 12,000 acres offers visitors a chance to glimpse deer, bear, bobcat, fisher and other wildlife, including. 5 Bonny Rigg Campground (Becket, MA) ( ) Bonny Rigg Campground is a FOUR SEASONcampground located in the beautiful Berkshire mountains of western Massachusetts. The area has long been known for it's Pristine lakes and streams in the summer, renowned foliage in the autumn, snowmobile riding and skiing in the winter, hiking and fishing in the spring. 6 F. Gilbert Hills State Forest (Wrentham, MA) ( ) The Foxboro section of the F. Gilbert Hills State Forest in Foxboro, Massachusetts offers one of the best riding experiences in eastern Massachusetts. The 810 acres of woodlands are densely forested with a variety of hardwood stands and contain a spaghetti-like maze of trails. The rocky gravelly earth, derived from a glacial till, is well drained, rarely muddy, and has little sand. With the exception of a small picnic area, this forest is basically just trails.

7 Franklin Trails (Franklin,MA) ( ) This wooded area in southeastern Massachusetts has just a few miles of fairly easy and flat single track.the main loop has the usual rocks and roots but nothing too challenging. This is a decent place to bring kids and beginners since there are just enough rocks, roots and mud to make it interesting but very few hills, nothing steep. Note that the parking space is very limited (park curbside on the road across from the water tower or on the dirt in front of the radio tower). This is only about a 30 minute to 1 hour ride at best so don't plan a big trip here.

8 Freetown-Fall River State Forest (Fall River, MA) ( ) This state forest boasts 25 miles of singletrack motorcycle-only trails that range from moderate to very difficult with some nice forest scenery. The area is divided into two parts, a western section and an eastern section Yes Forest 25 Motorcycles Prohibited Prohibited Prohibited Prohibited There are many parking entrances but there is only one designated motorcycle staging area. The parking area near the ranger station offers some picnic areas, restrooms, and a wading pool but bring some spray because the mosquitoes can get pretty thick in the evening hours. During the winter months snowmobiles are permitted on the trails..

9 Hodges Village Dam (Oxford, MA) ( ) Hodges Village Dam, located less than a mile west of the Sutton Avenue exit (4W) of Route 395, on Howarth Road off Charlton Street, Oxford, MA, has some of the most diverse and interesting trails in central MA. There is no permanent lake behind the dam which was built by the Army Corps of Engineers for flood control. It is filled only temporarily with runoff from rainwater which would otherwise cause flooding problems downstream. 10 October Mountain State Forest (Stockbridge, MA) ( ) This large state forest offers 27 miles of ATV trails that wind through over 16,000 acres of maple trees. There are multiple staging areas along with access to the famous Appalachian Trail (non-motorized use). Yes Forest 28 Motorcycles Prohibited Prohibited ATVs are permitted on the trails during daylight hours only. Snowmobiles can explore these trails during winter months. The forest offers one campground that has basic amenities but there is no direct trail access and machines must be hauled to and from the staging areas.

11 Pittsfield State Forest (Pittsfield, MA) ( ) This Cascading streams, waterfalls and flowering shrubs abound in Pittsfield State Forest. 65 acres of wild azalea fields are a profusion of pink blossoms in June. The forest has two camping areas and two picnic areas. Fishermen frequent scenic Berry Pond, one of the highest natural water bodies in the state at 2,150 feet in elevation Yes Forest 16 Motorcycles Prohibited Prohibited The vista from the top of Berry Mountain, accessible by auto road from April to December, is a striking panorama and a great place to watch the sun set.

12 Tolland State Forest (Otis, MA) ( ) The centerpiece of this state forest, located in the rolling southern Berkshire Hills, is the 1,065-acre Otis Reservoir. The lake provides a wide variety of recreational activities. A public boat launch ramp is available, popular with fishermen seeking out trout and bass in the lake's depths. Also available is a day-use area with sandy beach and several multi-use trails. Hunting is open (in season) for all types of game including turkey, bear and deer.

13 Wrentham Trails (Wrentham, MA) ( ) This deep forest has about 8 miles of rocky single track trails. There is nothing too challenging however these trails will keep you mostly in first or second gear. The staging area has direct trail access to the western section however you will need to cross the pavement to access the eastern side.
